I emigrated from Ireland in the late 1980s and now live in the US.

Working as a consulting software engineer for Symantec.

In my little spare time I do some baking, cooking, woodwork, reading. Normal stuff.

I used to write a blog that focuses on Type 1 diabetes and diabetes technology. I use a Dexcom G4 Continuous Glucose Monitor to help control my blood glucose levels and wear a Tandem insulin pump.

I created Diaboogle, which searches for diabetes-related results using Google Custom Search Engine facilities to ensure that only valid sites related to diabetes are included in the search results.

I'm trying to generate interest in standard interchange formats for diabetes data. Currently diabetes devices (insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, and blood glucose meters) collect much data, but there is no easy way to combine the data into a unified view that allows deeper analysis for the patient or the healthcare team. Also see my paper on microformats for diabetes data in the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology.

Note re some Diabetes-related Edits Several of the diabetes-related pages on Wikipedia have been 'populated' with traffic-generating links to commercial sites. I'm trying to identify and remove the worst of these.
