What is a suitable replacement?[edit]

A suitable replacement link is a replacement link whose archive date is within 6 months of the link's access date.

Sometimes the bot can find an archived copy of a link taken on a date more than 6 months away from the link's access date. The bot refuses to update those links automatically. Since the bot does not know the content of the dead link (and since it couldn't understand the content if it did), this 6 month limit reduces the chance than a bad substitution will be made.
