[edit] Picture

The picture you posted http://static.unrealitytv.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/little-mix-cannonball-460x460.jpg and deleted little3.png and little4.png - that was a picture I made. — Preceding unsigned comment added by World Flying (talkcontribs) 18:39, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

I believe that you created File:little3.png and File:little4.png, but the level of design skill differs vastly between those and the official single cover so I can't believe that the same person made all of them. Can you provide evidence that you created the images (i.e. that you have the rights to use all parts of the image, not just that you made the collage)? With these images, there's actually two different definitions of "made":
  1. The person who took the original photograph
  2. The person who designed the image, composited the photographs and added the text (called the derivative)

If you were the latter, then unless the original image (#1) is licensed for derivative works and complies with our CC-BY-SA licence, we can't use it or any media derived from it. We have to be quite strict on copyrights, but if you have the right to distribute the images you can do so through our donating copyrighted materials page. Thanks, matt (talk) 18:46, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

It's my picture as I remember making it. It was just because a user was changing my original pic to another one. So, he asked me to merge the images and sort them out. World Flying (talk) 21:12, 17 December 2011 (UTC)alex
Ok. Do you know where you originally got the images you used? That way we can figure out how/if we can re-upload them and under which licence. Cheers, matt (talk) 21:13, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
It was a picture that I got at a live show of the show and I then edited out and changed it to have a special background. — Preceding unsigned comment added by World Flying (talkcontribs) 22:00, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
The images I deleted were derivatives of two images – one credited to SYCO, the other used on the group's debut single. Which one was taken by you at a live show? little3.png was it.matt (talk) 22:10, 17 December 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Disambiguation link notification

Hi. When you recently edited Geno (song), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Madness (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

[edit] I'd like to ask why you deleted my article

I am not an author, nor do I work for, nor am I affiliated with Counselling Connect. Why did you delete this article? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alberta-girl-73 (talkcontribs) 14:42, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Alberta-girl-73. I deleted the article because it looked like an advert. You probably didn't intend it to be like that, I guess. Things like companies' mission statements (i.e. [Counselling Connect] exists to communicate a variety of approaches...) often aren't particularly appropriate to the article. I've "userfied" the article so you can work on it – you'll find it at User:Alberta-girl-73/Counselling Connect. My suggestion is to find an existing article of a similar company/organisation/magazine and use that as the basis of the Counselling Connect page. If you want to let me know if there's an similar article that you'd like to base the CC one on, just let me know and I'd be happy to help you out! All the best, matt (talk) 14:47, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Business for breakfast

Hello,

I'd like to know why you deleted my page, I only just started an article about a company who has swindled 50 people out of £20k went back to continue, it had gone. I thought anybody could publish on Wikipedia

Look forward to hearing from yo soon... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bankruptforbreakfast (talkcontribs) 22:05, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Please do not add original research or novel syntheses of published material to articles as you apparently did to Business for breakfast. Please cite a reliable source for all of your contributions. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 22:10, 21 January 2012 (UTC)
Yes, anybody may write content on Wikipedia. However, we have policies and guidelines that govern or make recommendations on that content. In this case, the article you wrote was entirely one-sided (one of our core policies is that of a neutral point of view) and seemed more like soapboxing than an objective, balanced article. We do not accept personal opinion in articles (your first sentence started with "Business For Breakfast is in my opinion..."). Additionally, the organisation Business for Breakfast doesn't seem notable – there's no real hits in Google News, and standard Google Search hits all seem to be from the organisation itself. Finally, it should go without saying that as your writing contained unsourced negative information, you should read our WP:LIBEL policy. Thanks to User:Orangemike for his input above. matt (talk) 22:31, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

[edit] AWB error

Just a heads-up - you made an incorrect "correction" here:[1]. Not every instance of "passed on" is a euphemism for "died".  Will Beback  talk  20:06, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Thanks – I'm surprised this happened as I've been double checking each AWB edit before saving, knowing that there are multiple meaning of the terms I'm changing. However, just the other day my XML for search queries got corrupted – and this edit ties in perfectly with using my new file. Obviously I need to have a look at it! Thanks for letting me know, and thanks for fixing the error. matt (talk) 08:13, 9 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Tianzhu County Article removed by Matt Girling

Dear Matt, I'm hugely impressed by the speed with which you have reacted to my edit; I had though that "original research" was just what was needed to get this stub started, but now understand Wiki policy a little better. I'm travelling to Oxford next week and may get a chance to consult the Bodleian Library for any reference on Guizhou province or Tianzhu County. Best wishes, David Mitchell 86.139.49.32 (talk) 10:33, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi David. If you find any reference let me know – I'd be more than happy to help you with the article. All the best, matt (talk) 11:11, 11 February 2012 (UTC)

I was clenching my teeth waiting for that orange bar! I was not really sure how to handle that. Probably should have sent him a message earlier. Glad you stepped in. Jim1138 (talk) 10:02, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

No probs. Everything's on my watchlist now, so I guess you needn't worry. Besides, it's been almost 20 minutes since the page was last edited. matt (talk) 10:05, 19 February 2012 (UTC)
Correction is kind of nice. Vandalism patrol seems so open loop. Any feedback helps! Thanks again. Jim1138 (talk) 10:07, 19 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Wil Wainwright Page

why did you delete it. I haven't finished it yet? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cornflakesandmilk (talkcontribs) 07:24, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi, Cornflakesandmilk. I deleted the page as it was an unreferenced biography (we mustn't have these) and failed our notability guidelines for musicians – as such it was liable for speedy deletion at any time. You're welcome to rewrite the page (I suggest you use our articles for creation tool as it's helpful for this sort of thing. However, you'll need to include reliable, third party sources in the article. Reliable sources are not social networking or user-generated content sites, and third-party sources must be independent of the subject (i.e. not connected to Wil Wainwright) so to avoid a conflict of interest or any neutrality problems. Remember that Wikipedia itself is never finished; all pages are constantly changing. matt (talk) 07:35, 27 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] Davy Jones

Confirmed and have link. Will repost, regards Martyn Smith (talk) 18:16, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Hi Martyn, thanks for the message. Can you find a source that doesn't reference TMZ? The way I'm reading the USA Today article, it seems they're just basing their story on the TMZ report. Regards, matt (talk) 18:22, 29 February 2012 (UTC)
Forget that, BBC have just announced independently. If it's OK with you, I'd rather use this as a source. matt (talk) 18:26, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

Yes no worries. I don't know anything about TMZ so if you think they are unreliable; would rather use the Beeb where possible anyway, regards Martyn Smith (talk) 18:29, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

TMZ are just a celebrity gossip site, often first on the scene of stories of celebrities' deaths. It creates a lot of work for us, as although they're often correct, many news agencies in turn cite them as a source so we have to be on the lookout for this. However, the BBC have been pretty quick on this one with an independent story. Cheers, matt (talk) 18:32, 29 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] New Page Triage engagement strategy released

Hey guys!

I'm dropping you a note because you filled out the New Page Patrol survey, and indicated you'd be interested in being contacted about follow-up work. This is to notify you that we've finally released both the initial documentation about the project and also the engagement strategy, which sets out how we plan to work with the community on this. Please give both a read, and leave any comments or suggestions you have on the talkpage, on my talkpage, or in my inbox - okeyes@wikimedia.org.

It's awesome to finally get to start work on this! :). Okeyes (WMF) (talk) 02:45, 3 March 2012 (UTC)
