Light Up The Night was one of the albums released by the Brothers Johnson. It was produced by Quincy Jones.

The Brothers Johnson was two brothers by the name of Louis"Thunder"Thumbs"Johnson and [George"Lighten"Johnson]].They were known as Three Plus One while attending school. The group was also formed with older brother Tommy Johnson. They had been performing together in Los Angelas California since their teens along with their cousin Alex Weir. The group supported various musical acts to make a living. They backed acts like Bobby Womack and the Supremes. They joined Billy Preston's band when they received attention from music producer Quincy Jones when they played on his Mellow Madness Album in 1975.

Background

The brothers was signed to A&M Records in 1976. From that point on, Quincy Joines produced a string of albums from the mid seventies to the early eighties for the brothers, Quincy Jones was a prominent force behind the success of their music. The album was recorded at Allen Zentz Recording studio in Hollywood, California and kendra Recorders, in Burbank California.

Personnel

The participants included Michael Jackson, who was a writer and performed background vocals. The other muscians were Rod Temperton from the seventies soul group Heatwave. He particapated as writer and lent his hands on the electric piano. Greg Phillinganes was another musician who was featured on the album. He also toured with Michael Jackson, and is a native Detroiter.louis Johnson played guitar,piano,synthesizer,and background vocals. Louis Johnson's wife Valerie Johnson supplied background vocals for many of the songs. George Johnson played guitar,lead vocals and background vocals. The producer Quincy Jones also supplied background vocals.

The Genre was Soul/R&B. The success of the album was started with the release of of the song Stomp. It went up to number one on the US R&B charts,US pop, and US dance charts.The song Light Up The Night, peaked at number sixteen on the US R&B chart, and the song Treasure peaked at the number thirty-six on the US R&B chart and the number seventy-three on US chart. The album peaked at at number five on the US billboard two hundred.

Present

The album is out of print, but can be purchased on the internet. The brothers Johnson split up in the year of nineteen eighty-two. One of the brothers stayed with Ouincy Jones and did mostly studio work such as participating in the production of the album Thriller for Michael Jackson. Louis Johnson supplied the bass line for Michael Jackson's Billie Jean. The other brother, George Johnson, played guitar for Steve Arington, who was a former member of the group Slave in the late seventies. Their cousin Alex Weir joined the eighties group Talking Heads. Today the brothers sometimes come together to do reunion concerts, but nothing long term.
