About me
Me, after extensive grooming and fur-fluffing

Hey, I'm cymru.lass! I'm a total geek/nerd. I'm also a travel junkie who has lived abroad and has way too many guidebooks for her own good. Despite being a born-and-raised American (gah! I hate that using that term to mean a U.S. citizen, but I don't know of any other good demonyms for us...), 80% of pop-culture references will go straight over my head—I've never had cable and I had dial-up until I was 13-ish (so, 6 years ago). My local time is 02:49 PM. Or it could be 05:49 PM. (reload). I live on both the East and West Coasts, and I'm too forgetful to change my local time each time I move. Can't guarantee when I will and won't be on. My sleep habits change frequently—I have a constantly-changing workload due to the nature of my degree program. (For anyone interested, I'm a BFA in Theatre Design and Technology.)

I started contributing to Wikipedia when I was maybe 11? I'm not entirely sure. Suffice it to say, it's been a while. I started out sporadically copyediting from school computers as an unregistered editor, and when my family (finally) got DSL, I began to edit more from home, still as an unregistered editor. I ended up registering in May 2010, and here I am! Knowledge-wise I don't really have much to contribute to Wikipedia at the moment (haven't finished my studies—yet). My interests on here (as in real life) lie in the behind-the-scenes work—things like vandalism reversion, copyediting, format tweaks, cleanup and deletion.

By now, you've probably noticed my off-hand way of talking on this page, and possibly in general. This doesn't mean I don't take Wikipedia seriously, orthat I don't respect the work I've done on this project. Rather, it's my way of keeping myself lighthearted. I've found it makes me a more relaxed, enjoyable Wikipedian. Rest assured, I talk much more normally in articles, serious discussions and edit summaries. With the exception of template sandbox edit summaries. A sense of humor is of the utmost importance there so as not to lose one's mind. I do tend to be fairly casual in (non-serious) discussions with other editors, and I use smileys on occasion.

The Wikipedia me

Things I like to do on here:

WP:COI disclosures:

  • One of my friends has a Wikipedia article about him. I'm not going to name him here, but I've identified my COI on the talk page of his article, and I identify my COI in any edits I make to the article. All the edits I've made to his article since befriending him have been minor copyedits or reference fixing. I use an editrequest template on the talk page for any edits that would change the substance of the article.
  • I was raised Catholic and went to Catholic school from grades 6 through 12. I left the Catholic Church around 8th grade. Because of my personal experiences with Catholic school, I developed a very anti-Catholic and anti-Christian bias that persisted for a few years, until I was a junior or senior in high school. I grew out of that prejudice when I realized that my experiences reflected only a small portion of Catholics (and Christians in general). I then took it upon myself to learn as much as I could about Church doctrine and the rationale behind it. I actually ended up monopolizing my religion teacher during class for most of senior year and came out of it with a better understanding of the religion. I don't agree with most of what it teaches, but I now have a respect and understanding of it. Still, I tend to steer clear-ish of articles relating to Catholicism to be on the cautious side.
  • I'm bisexual and mostly heteroromantic. I'm an equal rights supporter but not necessarily a member of the LGBT community because I believe that distinguishing LGBTQ people from the "rest of society" goes against the whole idea of having an equal society. I don't think this viewpoint has affected my editing, but since it's an unusual one, I'll stick it here anyways. Just in case.
  • I'm a liberal who tends to vote for the Democratic Party of the United States but identifies as an Independent.
"My" articles, redirects, categories, etc.

I'm not much of an article writer. I'm more of a gnome/improver/vandalfighter/randomfixer/templatey-lass. But I have created a few things:

  • Mount Abantos, translated from Monte Abantos on the Spanish Wikipedia. Began as a userspace draft, my final version, here, which, incidentally, was moved to mainspace at 21:21, 21 August. Face-smile.svg
  • Numerous redirects for spelling, etc.
  • 100s decade through 1600s decade, redirecting to 100-109, etc.
  • Several categories, "Roller coasters that opened in [insert year here]"
