Sad news[edit]

Morning Dr B - hope you're not snowed in at your secret bunker. Sad news about Leslie Nielsen, and checking the recent deaths, I saw Mario Monicelli's name added. Reminded me of the equally sad and similar death of Richard Farnsworth, star of David Lynch's The Straight Story. I think over the next couple of weeks, I'll complete Monicelli's filmography. "I am amazed that George Kennedy outlived Nielsen, he looked the sort who would have died of a heartattack 20 years ago" Surely you can't be serious...? Lugnuts (talk) 08:39, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Merge needed[edit]

Hi, a little while ago you started Museo Torres García, while a much older article exists under Torres García Museum. I'm neutral as for which way to merge. Can you please decide what is best and maybe perform the merge? Hoverfish Talk 20:16, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

On another matter, I see you are suggesting (by including it) a category "Palaces in Uruguay". My impression is that what they call here "palacio" does not correspond to what the English or Americans would call a "palace", but rather a very nicely built and decorated building. So there might be a semantic problem with this category, unless I ignore another use of the word "palace". Hoverfish Talk 00:47, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I was not clear. About naming articles I have absolutely no problem. I prefer the original if it is easy to understand in English, but I don't argue if someone renames it to English. But here I was referrring to a non-existing "Category:Palaces in Uruguay" you have placed in Palacio Taranco. Was it intentional? This is what I was asking about. Hoverfish Talk 12:03, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I know very little about jazz history and find this series a very practical way to get the basics. Also I checked better and i was wrong about the definition of Palace. Also this Category:Palaces in Argentina convinced me you applied the correct Category and I will create it and apply it in all Palacios. The problem is that in Montevideo, the distincion between palacio and villa is very fuzzy. So I don't know if it is very practical categorizing Palacio X and Villa Y in separate categories. "Manor house", surely does not apply, as it seems to be a countryside thing. Hoverfish Talk 14:07, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Well, thank you very much, Dr.Blofeld! You beat me to it. Hoverfish Talk 20:15, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

If you have time for diversions, this post relates to the Fortaleza and Bay of Montevideo, and hints to the history of Capurro. Hoverfish Talk 20:38, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

I am slowly advancing with the barrios. Unfortunately for some there is very little info and no refs. As for the spanish article of the Port of Montevideo, I started translating it and stumbled on a long drawn quote which is mainly rhetoric. I think it is better to work from scratch on this one. Hoverfish Talk 21:08, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Can you let me in to the "map-making tool" now? Hoverfish Talk 09:39, 3 December 2010 (UTC) - Thanks, no hurry. Hoverfish Talk 16:37, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey, this is totally cool! Super thanks. --- I guess that "open" means I can make derivative work on it, like say shade an area with my editor and then upload it, right? Hoverfish Talk 18:13, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

  • This list came from doing a search on 1946 jazz and picking out all articles that had the word "born" in the search result. Obviously quite a few are mismatches, but probably at least half are jazz musicians born in 1946 who are notable enough to have an article. Who is to say which are the most important? And there are hundreds of results like: "In 1946 Bertha "Chippie" Hill staged a comeback with Lovie Austin's Blues Serenaders". Relevant? Don't worry about the "year in jazz" articles being deleted - that will not happen - but we probably do need some discussion on what goes into the articles. Speedy deletion nomination of Laimutis Ločeris[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Laimutis Ločeris requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. NW (Talk) 15:43, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Please do not change the color of Template:Jazz, as pink is the color that has been chosen to represent jazz per WP:GENRE. Also, please read WP:DEW. ANDROS1337TALK 17:31, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Eh, don't edit war? I changed the colour once because it is pink!!!!!!!!!! Hideous. Show me where the consensus is for pink? Oh and you read WP:OWN... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:35, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

This was decided a long time ago, and per WP:DEW, extensive discussion on the colors of templates is discouraged. WP:DEW also states that the after one revert, it should end there. Don't let the next edit be a revert of a revert. Also, you should read WP:GAME. ANDROS1337TALK 17:40, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

You're completely blowing on the wrong end of the trumpet. template colours are changed all of the time if the person editing them thinks the colour is undesirable. As far as I can see it was you who decided pink was appropriate and are intent on having you way and if you think I would even remotedly consider getting into an edit war with somebody so passionate about pink think again... If someobody is that keen on pink LOL..♦ Dr. Blofeld 17:45, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes, but at WP:GENRE, we assigned different colors to different genres of music. Pink was chosen for jazz. Also, if you think about it, the color pink actually represents jazz well, as the theme of The Pink Panther is a jazz composition. ANDROS1337TALK 17:56, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

LOL but its like saying, oh 60s pop template must be yellow because of Yellow Submarine and 80s pop must be purple because of Purple Rain..or medeival music template must be green because of Green Sleeves. LOL. I actually associate the colour gold or buff (color) with jazz personally because of the colour of many of the instrument including the blond Gibson guitar..♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:01, 3 December 2010 (UTC)

Hotel fires[edit]

I have added text of four hotels and inns in History of hotel fires in the United States. I wish you had created a specific sandbox page for the article as it would have provided more time to expand. As regards the confusion in numbers, it is due to the fact that 30 caves have been chosen in Azores for UNESCO recognition, which includes 17 caves of Pico Island. I have made changes in the text. Please see and make any suitable grammatically correct sentence if my correction does not bring out this fact. I will continue on hotels tomorrow. I will continue on other countries and not on USA for now. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 17:10, 4 December 2010 (UTC)

Hi... I thought I had responded... It might be problematic to list all the colonias/barrios/unidades habitacionales/pueblos of the other boroughs as they are far more. For example, Coyoacán has 140 divisions of varying types. I dont think we want a list of 140 some odd anything in an article.Thelmadatter (talk) 17:44, 4 December 2010 (UTC) OK..I can do that. A. M. M. Naushad and DYK[edit]

Hi Dr. Blofeld... I notice that you have referenced the above article recently. As you may be aware, the DYK project is now accepting nominations for newly referenced BLPs that have been twofold expanded and thoroughly referenced. The present article is 1468 readable characters, so would be eligible with only a small addition (32 characters), assuming you can suggest a suitable hook. Perhaps you might be interested in considering nominating this article. Kind Regards, EdChem (talk) 15:08, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Really? That's a great idea I think Ed, hopefully it will encourage more people to work through the back log and get it done quicker. I am though staying away from DYK at the moment myself, so somebody else can nominate it if they wish!♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:14, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

I can nominate it if you like, but it would need the extra 32 characters and a suitable hoook. Any ideas? PS: If you are staying away from DYK because of the quid pro quo refereeing requirement, it hasn't gone into effect yet. EdChem (talk) 15:43, 5 December 2010 (UTC)

Years in Jazz articles[edit]

Hello! I see that you have recently spent some time expanding a variety of "Year In Jazz" articles, such as 1930 in Jazz and 1948 in Jazz. It appears that these edits have added orphaned references, which makes them show up on Category:Pages with broken reference names; a list of affected articles (about thirty) appears there. In some cases, the AnomieBOT has identified possible uses of the ref names from other pages, and while they appear to be the same, I don't know where content was copied from to fill out the "Year" articles. Could you revisit the articles, and make the appropriate changes? Thank you! - Salamurai (talk) 05:55, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Monchique and Geoboxes[edit]

I am going to dial down the rhetoric here on this subject. I agree completely that Portuguese Wikipedia is unreliable, usually built on flowering explanations of reality, with little or no substantiated/verifiable content or encyclopedic value. Usually, I use it as a base for upgrading the content of articles. But, referring again to Monchique, my reason to revert was purely to find content and expand the material. I was unaware of a "project" to upgrade the quality of that article. Hence my comment about belligerence (which I now agree was severe). Second, I agree a map is need on the LAU2 level articles in the Portuguese namespace, but the example in Portuguese articles has been to use region based maps: I refer you to the civil parishes of Abrantes Municipality as a reference. I will accept using those pin maps, once they are employed, although I believe they should be limited to LAU2 (parish) namespaces. Would it be too difficult to create similar ones for the rest of the Portuguese namespace? On a side: I too was planning on adding maps to all the Geoboxes once the main updates were completed, that were based on the Wikipedia:Wikiproject Maps guidelines and produced with ArcGIS from regional data. Just some clarification on my background: I have a Masters in Geography, am a GIS Technician and work for an entity of the Autonomous Region of the Azores, as well as knowing the value of adding good quality maps to the geographic namespaces. Third, the Portuguese government does not recognize towns, villages or even cities as legal entities, and are used as constructs for the definition of catchment. Municipalities and parishes are the only legal entities below the national government; the fact that people may refer to the "City of Lisbon", is only to define a urban area (with a certain population and basket of urban services) or because most people recognize urban areas in terms of hamlet, village, town and city. There are many "town" or "city" references in Wikipedia that are just not true. Using Terra Chã again: there is no village of Terra Chã, but there are localities of Boa Hora, Fonte da Faneca, Nabiças, Senhora da Paz and Canada Francesa that exist under the administration of the Freguesia da Terra Chã or Parish of Terra Chã. Apart from NUTS 1 to 3, the only accepted definitions are concelhos (municipalities),freguesias (parishes) and lugares (localities), and the last one has no legal standing. Finally, regarding "belligerence" again, I agree that my initial communiques were defensive, but now I am curious as to what "ANI" is exactly? When you noted that I "created unnecessary difficulty" and liberally used exclamation marks in your first message, I took it as angry reactions to my edits.Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 12:06, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

BTW, why did you erase all your conversations? Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 12:07, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

God your quick. I barely have time to take a breath, and you are already creating a new article. I think with this issue of Geobox versus Infobox, I will have to disagree with you. But, having said that, I would be happy to collaborate with you on Terra Chã. I will not modify your Infobox standard (for now) and use it as a mini-sandbox to test your ideas on "editablility". We can agree to disagree, can we not? Regardless, lets just see what we can do with Terra Chã. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 12:46, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

I feel a whirlwind of activity on this subject. Okay...I like your thinking viz-a-vis Geobox usage on Parish versus locality (i.e. village). But, before poo-pooing your use of pin maps, I suggest attempting to integrate your maps as locators in the Geobox format. Having experience with its usage, I might be able to work around the problems. But maybe I am being naive. I will attempt. One thing: there may never really be information on any one locality to make the creation of an individual article viable enough. As it is, most of the articles in the Portuguese namespace are limited to one or two lines of info, or those no page at all. I have already begun translating Terra Chã: from experience, the "translators" are weak at translating Portuguese, especially the regionalisms that exist in Portuguese. Cumprimentos. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 13:41, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Warning on Cape Verde. As noble as your endeavor, I tried to expand content on Cape Verde at one time, and found a user who was not accepting of content elaboration, and my penchant for Geoboxes, who reverted both immediately. I understand the Geobox reversion, but he never justified why he reverted extensive content on the islands of Maio, Cape Verde or Paul, Cape Verde. But, since he had intermittent use of a computer, I didn´t want to get into a revert war.Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 14:21, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Okay. I give. How do we resolve issues of editing conflict? Shall you take a section, and I take another? Or would you prefer to do the translating in bulk, and have me re-read it to see if the Portuguese corresponds? Literal translations are never a good way of editing, because they produce bad grammar. Not saying my grammar is perfect, but you get the point? Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 14:39, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh yeah. There is a watch dog. But I agree: no content improvement at all, except maybe the main Cape Verde page. But, I am not concentrating on that now. You will pardon me if I don't edit for a bit. I am still "at work", just had some time between processing some orthophotographs and thought I would crack the subject. Cumprimentos. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 14:43, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Yes. I believe I have completed the translation. There may be other things that need to be tweaked, grammar being what it is, but I have endeavored to make it as coherent as possible. Literal translations are never wise, since Portuguese tends to be too "flowery". I couldn't resist presenting you with a completed Geobox, that includes all the relevant information (taken both from the context of the article) and accredited institutions in Portugal (never trust what the municipalities and parishes say when you have access to valid geography from the national institutions). There may need to be some elaboration/wikyfing of "notable citizens" and/or other sections. I tried to wikify the most obviously obscure things. I didn't have time to glance at the "Junta Freguesia" website for further detail, owing to personal time constraints. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 15:21, 10 December 2010 (UTC)

US Geograph[edit]

Sorry for the delay in response. The one serious question which comes to mind to me is, to some extent, the utility of at least one photo per square mile or kilometre of the US, and who would take the photos. There are huge parts of the country, particularly in the western states, that are listed as national parks or protected areas; in several of those regions, particularly national forests, there really isn't that much to photograph - one tree is pretty much like another, y'know? And there is a big problem specifically regarding Alaska, some areas of which, for all I know, may never have been photographed.

Having said that, it seems to me that the idea of having a site of photos of all currently and formerly inhabited areas of the US and Canada would be very useful. The Foundation (possibly with Commons) might be able to set up something similar. I have a feeling that the photos taken by the various governments, all of which are supposed to be public domain, might be at least a very good starting point for such an endeavor. If someone could get the Foundation to set up something with the state and federal governments, that would, maybe, produce enough photos on its own to form at least the early basis of such an effort. Uruguay Barnstar[edit]

The Uruguay Barnstar of National Merit
I, Hoverfish of the Ocean, award Dr. Ernst Stavro Blofeld of SPECTRE this National Merit Barnstar of Uruguay for his most significant contributions in expanding the article of Montevideo, for improving many articles related to it and to the rest of Uruguay, as well as for stubbing and mapping and coaching and mobilizing support. Hoverfish Talk 18:04, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Hola, Doc! Very nice graphics for the barrios. Much much better than the previous pin maps which didn't get the message through. Yes, there are several problems with trying to decide what goes as a separate article and what redirects. It will all depend on how much info we can get for each of the more peripheral areas. But also, there are some problems with stating that the barrios are [number], because I have another map that (in few cases) shows different barrios where we have a composite one, and it is a map of the ministry of education too. So, yes, I will play it by ear as things develop. For the moment we are doing fine. I have started now an outside job which will take a lot of my time in the next time, but I will give daily pushes to all the barios I can find info on. Hoverfish Talk 18:04, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

History of hotel fires in the United States[edit]

Sure - hang on just a sec and I'll get to it. And thanks - tonight I'll create a few more (news reports of the era gave the name of some of the survivors.)

400 DYKs[edit]

Another milestone in your illustrious global coverage contributions to Wikipedia. Hearty congrats. I don't think I can catch up with you soon on these numbers. I am working on Wachau after completing all inputs I could muster on the historical fire article. I will start on the Azores article after getting the correctly translated version. I have completed my inputs to Wachau at User:Nvvchar/Wachau except for the German translation from this reference [1] for the Burgruine Aggstein section, which needs your expert input. You may like to do the needful so that Rosiestep could also see later in the day and transfer it to the main space as appropriate for posting on DYK. It has become a fairly long article. I did some more editing and nominated Velenje Castle on DYK. I have started expanding San Andrés (island) in the main space itself as I find it a better option.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 16:26, 10 December 2010 (UTC)
I requested Rosiestep to move the Wachau article to main space after fixing references in the last section. She appears to be busy. You may therefore like to request some Admn person to move it to main space. In case the last two paras of the last section can not be referenced then they could be deleted. Please allow me to work on San Andres (island} for 45 minutes now since edit conflict removed all my inputs. Thanks. -- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:42, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

The Wachau article is cleared by the reviwer. But there is an observation that reference should be fixed to the last para of Burgruine Aggstein section. You had moved translated section. Updated Barrio maps and articles[edit]

I redefined some barrios in all the maps. Now we have 62 barrios. I have two official maps I can refer to if needed: one fron the Intendecia, and one from the ministry of Education. I also changed all the lists all over all the language wikis, except an arabic or similar, a japanese or similar, and malaisyan or similar. As a result, some few of your (composite named) maps are not used in the new 62. I am too tired now to list the ones we should remove (just not to become confusing over which is new and which old). I hope you linke the new versions. Till soon. Hoverfish Talk 04:35, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

I have spent a lot of time trying to find why different maps show different barrios. I have even read an article that states that a police station in Maroñas was not aware of the borders of barrio Parque Guaraní. So I decided to go by two different authorities that are IMO more important than other mapmakers. One is the National Institute of Statistics and another the Inspection of Public Education. I give referemces as external links in Neighbourhoods of Montevideo. The funniest of all is that the Japanese wiki had 63 barrios!!! (one turned out to be an island and a street in Montevideo, but no barrio), before I made the corrections. From the Japanese wiki I found out they had included Goes in Villa Muñoz, which I was surprised no other wiki mentions, as it is a very popular old barrio with a stadium for its football team. Hoverfish Talk 16:13, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

LaSalle Hotel[edit]

I added what I could find at a glance. I don't have much time for editing. Also, I am working on a script and have not been doing much major editing. Additionally, I have also sort of committed that if I do a major editorial expansion, the next one will be Chicago Stadium.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 16:33, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

REgarding Wachau, I nom'ed it. See dyk comment about Wachau Burgruine Aggstein section. I don't know who wrote this section? Regarding Gruta das Torres... Nvv asked me to respond on dyk regarding the Gruta comments. However, the reviewer seems to say that he only finds the Borges ref to be reliable when it comes to measurements. If you agree, then every measurement that isn't supported by Borges should be removed from the Gruta article and every measurement that we keep in the Gruta article that comes from the Borges article should have an inline citation. Do you think that's what the reviewer wants and do you want to do this? I think responding to the DYK comment itself will have to come after the changes are made. I think that there are a lot of measurements in the Gruta article that lack an inline citation and that makes me nervous. --Rosiestep (talk) 06:18, 12 December 2010 (UTC) --Rosiestep (talk) 06:29, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

In the Gurta article, I have given the inline citation to reference 1 only and removed all other lengths. I have replied on the discussion page and also now on DYK.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 02:35, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Martti Soosaar[edit]

Thanks for your warning, but I did not delete the article as I am not an administrator and do not have that capability, but merely suggested it for deletion. The administrator who did delete did so because they felt the article had no 'no meaningful, substantive content' (CSD A3). The references you have added are an article by the subject, a commercial site selling a product and a google list. To date, either from what you've added or elsewhere, I still see nothing available that provides the coverage of the subject that shows the author meets WP:GNG or any of the sub categories. Nuttah (talk) 18:49, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

"Estonian journalists are not exactly a topic which have massive coverage on the Internet" - unfortunately journalists are not inherently notable so for an article to stay coverage must exist somewhere. The reference you have provided that comes from Harju public library is an improvement on the others, but probably still short of meeting WP:GNG. As for the tagging, Twinkle uses a standard format which I don't have the power to change. Nuttah (talk) 19:09, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

Eastwood[edit]

I've went through and did a preliminary cleanup of the article. I still need to go through and add WebCite links for the rest of the sources and add a few more citation templates so all of the sources are consistent. The article definitely has some areas that need to be trimmed, mostly regarding the filming locations (we can shift those details to the film pages) and a bit in the political section. I'll make a list within the next few days in my sandbox of what I think should be cut and you can take a look and let me know what you think. Altogether, it shouldn't have too many issues with GAN, but it's still got a way to go before FA. --Happy editing! Nehrams2020 (talkcontrib) 07:17, 12 December 2010 (UTC)

I don't have enough will to continue. However, you make like to complete the San Andrés (island) for posting by tomorrow. I will add a reference to the tag as my last input.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:34, 13 December 2010 (UTC)
  • I suggested to Rosistep the following hook for posting hook ...that the San Andrés (island) (pictured) has been described as "Geographically near Nicaragua, past historically tied to England, and politically part of Colombia"? However, there was a confusion about the reference, which I have fixed now. But it is late night for Rosistep to respond and post it on DYK. May consider posting it by 14th (today). Regarding Wachau, my knowledge is limited to drinking wine occasionally. The text that refers to the particular wine was in the original article itself and was from a book source. Hence, I retained it. Now for Wachau hook, User:Orlady has suggested an alternate text which you may like to confirm since you had already requested her for suitable formulation. I am still trying to find info on Gruta de Torres. May be you would be able to locate from this source Source:AZORES GEOPARK 28-09-2008] which has many linked articles. Thanks.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 09:15, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

island[edit]

If it doesn't have one already, can you or Nvv add a citation to any para in San Andrés (island) this is missing one? Inline citations are best, but end of para will do. Also, IMHO, any sentence that includes a "number" (date, measurement, etc.) should have an inline citation so everyone understands its attribution. I've left the same note at Nvv's pg. I copyedited the article, but didn't add any content as it's quite comprehensive as is. Didn't get a chance to get to the couple of other articles yet that you mentioned; manana! --Rosiestep (talk) 04:01, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Move of Paro Taksang to Taksang Dzong[edit]

Just spotted this. I've been living in Bhutan for 8 years and never heard it referred to by anyone here as "Taksang Dzong" - almost always as Paro Taksang (though the proper name is Taksang Samdrup Ke'u Tshang). It is also not a "Dzong" in the normal Bhutanese sense of the word. Admittedly in Padamasambhava's biographies it is one of the eight caves he meditated in referred to there as "dzongs" - but that is a quite differeent use of the word. Anyway, despite the number of Google hits you may get on "Taksang Dzong", I think it should probably be moved back to Paro Taksang - the usual name of the place. Chris Fynn (talk) 14:17, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

You'll have to ask an administrator to move it. I believe we moved it for naming consistency and google hits.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:20, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

With Google I get “Paro Taksang” - 52,500 hits, “Taksang Dzong” 5,490 hits. I also notice there is a lot of misinformation in the article - and confusion about some of the nearby sites. Some of these instances cite: Singh, Nagendra Kr (2004). Buddhist Tāntricism which appears to have inaccurate information about the place. Chris Fynn (talk) 15:43, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Your message on my talk page[edit]

Hi, next time before you post an admonishment like this on someone's talk page, please first read WP:AGF (I can't believe I need to post this on the talk page of a user with your number of edits). A look at my edit history could have been helpful, too: I don't lightly PROD articles and I do know what I am talking about when I edit articles on academic journals. Thanks. --Crusio (talk) 18:02, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Number of edits is completely irrelevant. Whether you have 10 edits or 1,000,000 edits you should not have overlooked 731 google book hits. Its your clear error of misjudgement as Rosie's expansion work has now clearly illustrated. Journal of Indigenous Studies was and always will be notable. Even professional academics and scholars make some errors of judgement. You can't possibly profess to have a knowledge of every single journal or publications ever published. You would have been happy to delete the article before it even had a chance to be improved. So however much you claim otherwise wikipedia as a resource would have been worse off without the article. I'm sure you often make perhaps even a majority of good calls with article prodding like so many do and I certainly trust you generally as an editor, especially given your highly respectable profession. But as has been demonstrated on many occasions, article prodders do not always get it right. I've demonstrated this myself many times to people who've prodded my own work/AFD'd them and expanded them with an abundance of sources which they claimed didn't exist. I do generally assume good faith, but deletion prods generally are not the best course of action if you want people to be sweet in return.♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:07, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Silvaner and Wachau[edit]

I feel like I let you down :/ I was waiting to find some definitive harvest figures before I challenged the line in the Wachau article about Silvaner being the most common grape in the Wachau but I didn't know that you nominated that fact for DYK. I was skeptical when I first saw but the reliable source you have listed was fairly recent (2007) so I wanted to do more research and see what I came up with for the Wachau wine article. While I still haven't found the harvest figures I was looking for, I'm still very skeptical about the validity simple because so many other reliable sources fail to even mention Silvaner when talking about the Wachau much less support the claim that it is the most common grape. I apologize for not bringing my reservations about that fact to you sooner. AgneCheese/Wine 18:21, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

This was exactly why I wanted our resident wine guru to ensure it was correct. As I know you are eons more knowledgeable about wine than us!! Please do anything to ensure its accurate that's all!! Wachau wine BTW is a fantastic new article. Thanks!♦ Dr. Blofeld 18:24, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Well I would have expected the wine writer of Gourmet Magazine to know more :P But I'm still looking for official harvest figures (because that would be the definitive answer). I suppose it is possible that the Wachau and Austrian wine industry may be so embarrassed about Silvaner that they are trying to white wash its existence out of any reference or connection to their famous wine region. So it may be true but right now I would recommend removing the statement and submitting a new fact for DYK. AgneCheese/Wine 18:29, 13 December 2010 (UTC)

Dr. B, Obviously, Agne's suggestion makes sense, so I will remove the Silvaner sentence from the article. Please propose a better hook at dyk. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:08, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Notability. I can not find any sources which I can read which would establish notability per WP:notability (people); also the link to the lithuanian wikipedia does not help in that respect. So I cannot establish notability; since this is a BLP we must be very strict; I propose deletion...

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. L.tak (talk) 06:42, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Hey, do you really think I enjoy nominating poets for deletion? That it was your article, I didn't know that until the (automated) AfD process was through. So I'm sorry if I offended you, and I've withdrawn the nomination--but this is the kind of thing that can happen with unverified BLPs. Later, Drmies (talk) 15:51, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

It actually finishes at the junction with the A34 a little further north. AD 16:15, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

So it does! Well spotted! Thanks!♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:21, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Heh, it's probably eligible for DYK now. I still don't think it's worth an article (at least, not without consulting local libraries), but unlike some who scream "keep!" for just about anything and then move swiftly on, at least you've made a decent effort. Thanks for that. AD 22:19, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, when I vote keep or delete I mean it and if challenged I will at least try to show it can be expanded. Well it is OK if you compared to many of the road stubs we have but I agree it is glossed up with little info actually about the road. But it is pretty decent for understand its course and locations along it.. A decent article indeed would cite construction documents and local council sources which as you say can only be accessed via a library visit and a lot of time researchin. Most British geo topics on here could be massively improved with library research but the chances of that happening with smaller roads and villages is minimal.. ♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:26, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Gruta das Torres[edit]

Materialscientist (talk) 12:03, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Don't take it as I was or am pushing you to review for DYK, really. This is just to say if you get to this, there are many interesting articles and facts on the T:TDYK page (well, not sure about now, but usually there are. There is some rubbish too.). The wide choice of nominations and lack of referees provides options to actually enjoy it. Materialscientist (talk) 12:49, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

File:VirginiaBarnstar.PNG The Virginia Barnstar
For your excellent work expanding McGaheysville, Virginia from the stub which I left last night, I award you this Virginia Barnstar. Wear it with pride. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:49, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

I took the liberty of adding a paragraph about the Civil War - apparently there was a skirmish in the town, which hardly even registers on the historical record. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:47, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah - I didn't even know we had it until I searched.
Rockingham County is lovely - my father used to teach at JMU, before I was born, and we used to visit friends in Harrisonburg from time to time. It's Mennonite country - and gospel music country, too. Singers Glen is very important in the shape note tradition. I love it out there...in fact, I'm developing a yen to get out there on a day trip sometime. Not in the winter, of course - maybe when the spring thaw hits.
Thanks for the co-nom; if I can think of anything else I'll add it in. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:05, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Awesome. Thanks very much - I'll work on it some myself, too. (There were other prominent citizens killed - a major prosecuting attorney and rising star in Virginia politics, a couple of important members of Richmond society...and there's also the Poe connection, however tenuous.)
You know the worst part? Check out what links to it - I added at least four of those links to the articles myself last month.
The sad part is that the fire was pretty well forgotten in Richmond, too - the only reason I ever knew about it in the first place is that my ancestor was supposed to have helped save victims, though that appears not to be the case. Speaking of whom...there may be more information in his biography, which I have at home.
Speaking of...next year's the 200th anniversary. Think we can push to get this to FA status by then?
Excellent work on Rockingham County - I'll go ahead and fill the rest of the redlinks using GNIS in a bit. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:59, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, GA would be good. I'll shoot for FA, maybe - but GA would be a good start, thanks. (Never done an FA before, so perhaps I'm being a shade optimistic. :-) ) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:21, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I knew Rockingham was out west - but that far west? :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:19, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Yeah - there are patches in western Virginia that look as if they've been barely touched by progress. All up-to-date, of course - everyone's on the internet. But sometimes you expect Floyd Allen to pop out from behind the neareast tree. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:26, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Oh, yes - and the population's shrinking. Check out the demographics of Highland County, Virginia, say - Rockingham's an exception, but that's because Harrisonburg and the university are growing. Otherwise, the farming lifestyle is becoming unsustainable, and people are migrating to where the opportunities are better. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 21:39, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I've heard that from a lot of European visitors, actually. Part of it, though, is that a lot of that countryside is protected; George Washington and Jefferson National Forests between them cover a massive amount of land, and there's also Shenandoah National Park. So there won't be a lot of building going on. Portions of Shenandoah County are becoming built up, though - they're turning Strasburg, Virginia into a way-out-there bedroom community for the DC area. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:11, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Some of that will be the national forests, believe it or not - "national forest" has a tendency to be a rather loose term in some places... --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 22:13, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
I added a little to Cootes Store - off to do some Brunswick County, now. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 02:05, 16 December 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Byadrangiin Lkhagvasüren[edit]

The article Byadrangiin Lkhagvasüren has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:V, possibly WP:N. I hate being stumped by translation and web site issues, but I can't find reliable sources for this author, with the possible exception of [www.parliament.mn/new/download/content/save/file/2335+Бядрангийн+Лхагвасүрэн&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us] a mention here from what is likely the Mongolian parliament, but which I've been unable to translate. (HTML version here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:Ggf8BX60k-sJ:www.parliament.mn/new/download/content/save/file/2335+%D0%91%D1%8F%D0%B4%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%B3%D0%B8%D0%B9%D0%BD+%D0%9B%D1%85%D0%B0%D0%B3%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%81%D2%AF%D1%80%D1%8D%D0%BD&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us )

In any case, once all the wikimirrors are gone, there's at best one, possibly reliable source that says something we don't know about this athlete that I can find, which doesn't rise to WP:GNG.

Richmond Theatre fire[edit]

I could get a book reference to the architectural details of the Monument Church, and I have added the text from it. I have partly quoted the original text, as condensing it may not fully convey the design aspects. My intense search did not result on any information on the original design of the theatre which got burnt. I have now completed my inputs to the article. Thanks for inviting me. I enjoyed doing it. I've completed my expansion of User:Nvvchar/Plas yn Rhiw; the only thing I'm unclear on is the 150 acres vs. 400 acres... can you or Nvv clarify? I did some work on Cootes Store yesterday. If you're interested in adding to it, I'd like to finish up and nom Stephen Venard over the weekend... particularly helpful is the Boessenecker ref, but so are Thrapp and Wilson. --Rosiestep (talk) 07:08, 18 December 2010 (UTC) My inputs at User:Nvvchar/Plas yn Rhiw, Hurricane Val and Richmond Theatre fire are over.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 08:20, 18 December 2010 (UTC)‎

Rosie step added this reference and hence she has doubt about the area. I can't throw much light on this reference. As regards the Hurricane article there is this reference [2] which needs to considered. I am not an expert in Meteorology though I did a short course on Hurricanes with NOAA in Miami in early 80s. We need to fit an info box and I am unable find the max wind speed and pressure values.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:23, 18 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, there is more text on Lake Engolasters along with Coma Pedrosa, which I will add soon. Unless we find the reliable reference for the speed and pressure, we should nt fit an info box. I am searching.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 12:36, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

Probably it may be better to invite the expert to give his inputs than invite adverse comments on the figures. What do you feel about it?-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 14:11, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

The Old Bell Hotel and Restaurant[edit]

hey... I went ahead and approved The Old Bell Hotel and Restaurant for DYK but you might want to tighten up the architecture section a bit. There is one sentence in particular where you repeat its building in 1220 (although not all of it was built in 1220) and next to an abbey (which abbey?)Thelmadatter (talk) 13:42, 18 December 2010 (UTC)

She was in court because of some issues with her cricket team, and she won the case. She also sued some websites for publishing false accusations of her being into drugs. There's some stuff that needs to be updated in the article, but I don't have time these days, but I'll do it later. She is very much involved in her regular social causes, but she said that now it's her turn to return to the movies, as her fans don't stop questioning her about that. Indonesian villages[edit]

There is a current discussion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Indonesia#Another small issue concerning articles that you edited. --Bejnar (talk) 04:51, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh hell - just what we do not need - I would strongly prefer an off wiki discussion about this Dr Blofeld in all WP:AGF and general commonsense - this sort of stuff is potentially creeping into the damned chaos of the regency layer which you and others dumped on us a year or two back (we have never recovered) either the equivalent of going to the pub for a talk about it - with a damned good sense of humour as well,

otherwise we will all come to grief i am sure - cheers for the christmas season anyways SatuSuro 05:11, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

For a start please accept my apologies - I always perceive masses of regency additions to your work - if it wasnt - my apologies.
Also please note I simply started this not to start N or AFD exercise - but as a check against indiscriminate addition of

localities or features that are marginal if not without any notability apart from existing - that come into the project with no attempt by editors to verify by a WP:RS for WP:V ... so inherent in the exercise (my reason to start up on this issue) was to check a number of editors who add stubs with no attempt to exercise themselves to show why the place is notable apart from merely existing - surely that is not too much to ask for in a project where some indonesian editors seem to want to create a 'perfect mirror' of the wp:Indonesian articles (ie id) on the en project without a WP:RS in sight...

I do not see why it is assumed that a stub can be started in the hope others will pick up the bundle to work out what happens... and noting that it is so easy for these discussions to get out of hand before one gets back to the computer after the real world intervenes - is that:

  • I have no issue with notable villages or regencies - its just a possible assumption from the conversation with bejnar - that all villages are possible articles - that I object to most strenuously (seeing the burmese templates is somewhat disconcerting - I would be very seriously against such an exercise in the indonesia project due to the sheer size and volume of unreedemable stubs of an exercise like that)
  • I also do have issue with tagging indiscrimately locality stubs with N tages - unless they pass a test something like google hits (although I have a very long lasting disctrust that is an adequate test)

It all started out with trying to establish some basic general guideline on the project page and it gets into this - typical wikipedia.. sigh SatuSuro 12:08, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Oh dear the potential for misinterpretation is so high in all of this - I wonder why sometimes - I have no objection to your stubs - even if you didnt expand the bloody stubs - what I have in mind is there are a couple of serial pests who add clueless stubs with little understanding of what they are doing - and the reason ot raise it at the noticeboard was to establish something that had nothing to do in anyways with add ing n or afd tags - but to establish that the project simply does not have the person power to 'cleanup' after them - and then at the same time as a reminder where we do find stubs with no apparent obvious reason - which sources are considered adequate for a stub to remain unchallenged - but hey - it all gets out of hand so easily - have a good christmas anyways SatuSuro 12:27, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

as for the damned regency lists - that is another story another time - I have neither the sense of humour or time (at the moment) to go into the issues that arise from things like the regency/locality lists that exist SatuSuro 12:29, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

threatening AFDs and notability tags on articles which are verified and generally snowball accpeted in AFDs is not the way to go about it. For gods sake I have mentioned at least three times now here and other place I am not the slightest interested in doing that in the first place - its trying to establish the principle at the bloody project that the sneaky non english speakers who add em without wp;rs for places and things that are made aware that they cannot replicate wp;id - which is basically one vast project full of unverifiable material (and as a consequence open to hopax and fraud) SatuSuro 12:34, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I have just missed a mr bean special (I i had left during the dentist skit which I hate as I have dnetal issues) - and am getting off the computer - this was obviously something that shoudl have been in a pub or offline (as I suggested soemwhere up the tope of this damned pile of words) - some other time - SatuSuro 12:39, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Batuan, Bali and Sausapor - I've expanded both. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:03, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Your comments[edit]

Please note that the tag I added to the articles reads "This article may not meet the general notability guideline. Please help to establish notability by adding reliable, secondary sources about the topic." It is not a threat (unlike "as soon as you cross my path then the bull's insinct is to flare up.", for example). It is a genuine effort to improve Wikipedia by ensuring that articles are notable. Neither does my tagging the articles place the onus on me to improve them, or mean I am "too lazy to expand it". Could I also remind you about WP:CIVIL? Regards. Davidelit (Talk) 14:51, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

I used an analogy related to me being a Taurus and how very much like a Taurus I am in temperament that I'll be pleasant with people until they cross my path and make false claims/show a misguided view of articles. Your intention is to delete articles on par with North Halmahera Regency as they are "just not notable" according to you so can you expect me to treat you as anything but a fool?... Civil aside, you should NOT be tagging verified geographical articles for notability anyway, especially articles on major districts covering over 8000 square kilometres. It is very poor judgement on your part. Geographical landmarks are generally considered to be very notable on wikipedia however small, especially large districts and major rivers which you've been tagging. Tagging big districts and rivers when they could be expanded like North Halmahera Regency and Lamandau River is very poor judgement. You tagged South Halmahera Regency for not being notable. What makes you think it is any less notable than the Northern part? I agree that Indonesian articles need a lot of work and indeed should be better sourced and contain more content but did you even try to expand any of those articles you tagged? I've begun expanding Batuan, Bali haivng already expanded Koor, Indonesia to demonstrate "notability". Seirously your time would be better spent researching these articles and writing them than placing utterly pointless tags over them. That would equate to a genuine effort to improving quality and sourcing. If anything it is more embarrassing that an editor thinks they are not notable that them being short and unresearched.♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:58, 19 December 2010 (UTC)

Dr.B, I agree with you on the articles, but I think you should recognize that having a different judgement on an issue than you yourself hold, does not necessarily make it a poor judgement. A discussion of the matter has to explain why it is a poor judgment, and can be done without commenting on the individual. (I've given my view on my talk p, btw.--in this case we have very firm agreement that articles on all populated places and organized political subdivisions are unquestionably notable--the only items deleted have been either for nonspecific neighborhoods, or where actual existence could not be demonstrated. ) DGG ( talk ) 00:08, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Well now lets see. It was claimed that both Batuan, Bali and Koor, Indonesia were non notable "useless sub stubs that should be taken to AFD". The editor clearly did not even bother to do the research so I'd disagree on that point. The current status of both articles is strong evidence in my book that they made an obvious error of misjudgement. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that!♦ Dr. Blofeld 07:22, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Note my comments at DGG and Jacks pages - I still think the broader issue is far more important than the details of specific articles - there has to be a way of understanding that http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bunaka exists - and has so for a few years - while Batuan and Koor may well be inhernetly notable and have been expanded as such - I am arging that stubs/articles started that show nothing - one liners - should be expanded at the time of creation - so as to keep them separate from the hoaxes and frauds that sit around for 2 or 3 years SatuSuro 07:57, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I couldn't agree more, and Bunaka is speediable. What we need is a cleanout of Indonesian articles, to source and expand them and route out the hoaxes, but its gonna require a lot of effort.♦ Dr. Blofeld 08:09, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Shriya Saran GA review[edit]

Hi Dr. Blofeld. For the Shriya Saran article, I have requested for a second opinion. Since you are an expert on such topics, please could you provide a second opinion. I have finished reveiwing most of the article, but I think her career section is not broad in its coverage. Thanks, Xavier449 (talk) 07:40, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your suggestions and review, Dr. Bolfeld. I have failed the article. The article was nowhere near GA even during the beginning of the review. Xavier449 (talk) 09:48, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Kecamatan[edit]

Hi there. Thanks for your work on the sub-districts. Would you mind adding your references. Not only for verification, but it might also assist other editors in developing the articles. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 11:14, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Of course, naturally. But allow me at least to list them first. I'll come back and source/expand the regency articles afterwards.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:16, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

It would be best if you provided references promptly in the wikipedia way. cheers --Merbabu (talk) 11:19, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Mmm, maybe I'll stop, this indicates Nias Regency has 32 Kecamatan. Indonesian wiki says it has 9 and then lists 36.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:22, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Hopefully you're not taking it out of Indonesian wikipedia. I'd say the gov website is good enough. --Merbabu (talk) 11:24, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Can you provide me a general govenrment site which lists them?♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:26, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

hmmm - i thought the one you showed me was a govt site. "Selamat Datang di website Pemerintah Kabupaten Nias" means "Welcome to the website of the Nias Regency government". (pemerintah = government). Or do you mean a national govt? I'm not doubting the one you listed here. --Merbabu (talk) 11:31, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I mean a general statistics website run by the govenrment or something which would save me having to find different sources for each regency and province. Also the population/area data needs sourcing. Its currently 2000 census data but that should should be accesible somewhere...♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:33, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmmm - that's not really my thing. I will ask around though (funnily enough, User:Davidelit springs to mind). --Merbabu (talk) 11:37, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

WIkipedia is best when things are consistent, consistency in sourcing being one of them.Sub stubs like Tolikara Regency as Satusaro says is shockingly bad and is literally a useless stub. They at least need infoboxes and some data inline which can be sourced... If the sourcing cannot be derived from a statistical site then it makes the task extreme and time consuming.♦ Dr. Blofeld 11:47, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

This source will do for population and area.♦ Dr. Blofeld 12:59, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Hopefully somebody can use abot to upload the locator maps from Indonesian wikipedia. I would ask my old friend Calliopejen to do it but she ignores everything I say to her these days such is the way of a lawyer!!♦ Dr. Blofeld 13:29, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Materialscientist (talk) 12:04, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Yeah - it was supposed to snow here yesterday, and then it didn't. We may be getting a white Christmas, though...we never do. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 14:32, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Same here. We had snow last week - Thursday it was. In 21 years I can't remember an earlier snowfall than that in the DC area. There's still some on the ground; if we do get more this weekend it will probably cover what's already there. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:32, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Sure - will do tonight. I've got one other AWB project to finish first, though.
It's much milder here than it is up there, yes; we're about 200-250 miles south. 300+ miles south of the Buffalo area, which is where most of the snow this time of year develops. This is a much warmer climate; it's muggy and hot in summer, and it's supposed to be cool but not cold at this time of year. About ten degrees Farenheit more than we are right now, usually. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:22, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Wow. Looks kind of like it did last year, doesn't it? I seem to recall something about heavy snows then. Our last dusting was nothing similar - about three inches in the worst places. We probably got an inch and a half in my neighborhood; I didn't bother photographing it, even. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:03, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Well, that's not likely to happen here just yet; they tend to measure the snow in Buffalo in feet, not inches. Now, if we have a snowfall as heavy as we did last year, that's a different matter; we had snow on the ground for something like two months after one of them. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:10, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Jazz refs[edit]

Could you fill in these? I found the same ones in 1930 in jazz, 1933 in jazz, 1934 in jazz, 1936 in jazz, 1937 in jazz, 1938 in jazz, 1939 in jazz, 1940 in jazz, 1944 in jazz, and 1963 in jazz. I can fill in those if you fill in 1960s in jazz. 134.253.26.12 (talk) 16:42, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

I don;t understand what you mean. Your way of sourcing looks very odd to me. I don't like adding anything under the references section.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:45, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

They were ref errors it seems. Somebody removed the links but didn't remove the refs so we now have some empty refs it seems.♦ Dr. Blofeld 16:46, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Forget about where I put the refs. Just tell me what nrb1, rvb, and rjb are and I can fill them in. You added them as blank references here, which is why I am asking for your help. 134.253.26.12 (talk) 17:11, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

It appears that IPs are not wanted around here [3]. Very sad. 134.253.26.12 (talk) 18:06, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Can you help with this. I don't want a WP:3RR. 134.253.26.12 (talk) 18:09, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, 1924 in jazz is in very good shape compared to many of the others. I would love to help expand these, but I think I should get an account. Even then, I don't think my boss would appreciate me spending more time than my coffee and lunch breaks working on it. I don't have internet at home, but I could go to the library. Something to think about for the future. Having an account would probably keep the mindless Hugglers off my back, which would be a bonus. 134.253.26.12 (talk) 19:05, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
I like how you are the one who gets the apologies, not me. As if you were the one who was being continuously reverted without any real explanation. 134.253.26.12 (talk) 19:06, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
"Charlie Parker" is a good idea. I don't have internet at home, but I may in the future. I have to sign off now. Best. 134.253.26.12 (talk) 19:15, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Copyright status[edit]

Why so negative??? The practice of en.wiki has always been to go by the expiration of copyright in the US, so anything pre-1923 is fine. (Incidentally, the author apparently died in 1934[7], so it would be public domain in the UK as well.) Calliopejen1 (talk) 17:24, 20 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the gift of Google referencing tool. It works well. As regards other settings I have Skin Monobook only ticked, Math is html and Beta features are not enabled. I will be happy to have more tools to use provided I know how. A tool to identify disambiguation pages would be useful. Any other tools you suggest would be fine. I have added some text to Sempringham Priory. The History reference you have used is also in another reference which I have added but not to the history section. I have not touched History section but added on Geography, archaeology and to the lead section. I could not find any new imgs to add. I will work on Alvingham Priory.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 07:53, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
I have now added three images. One image of a memorial stone has the history also under uploaded image details on wikicommons. I am not very sure if it can be taken as a reliable reference to add text related to Gwenllian of Wales's enforced imprisonment in Sempringham Priory till her death in 1337. You may take a view and if you can find another reference then add text suitably.Thanks.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 09:30, 21 December 2010 (UTC)
Alvingham Priory is also done. I hope the infobox and imgs are Ok.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 14:07, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Tag referenced now. The google book citation tool has worked. It is at the top of the page above my preferences line. Thanks. I will now finish Lake Engolasters and Coma Pedrosa by tomorrow evening. I will then move on to Aruba articles Alto Vista Chapel and Arikok National Park.-- N.V.V. Char Talk . 15:27, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Zharylkasyn Turabayev[edit]

The article Zharylkasyn Turabayev has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unsourced BLP. No significant coverage to verify he meets general notability, nor does he meet the more strict criteria of WP:POLITICIAN.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Orphaned non-free image File:Anica Černej.jpg[edit]

⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Anica Černej.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Speedy deletion nomination of Ton Strien[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ton Strien requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

Miyagawa (talk) 14:05, 25 December 2010 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Eastwood Unforgiven.jpg[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Eastwood Unforgiven.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 18:28, 26 December 2010 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use File:CountdownDes.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:CountdownDes.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 22:52, 27 December 2010 (UTC)

DYK for Coma Pedrosa[edit]

Orlady (talk) 08:04, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Sempringham Priory and Alvingham Priory have been posted on DYK by Rosie. There is however an observation under the hook that a clear mention should be made in the reefrence section that the paragraphs have been taken verbatim from the PD documents. While I have changed the hook as suggested, I have only added the note regarding PD document in the discussion page of the document. Please introduce this note in the history section also since I am not very certain about the procedure for this. Thanks.--Nvvchar. 10:45, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
In the Terra Chã article, I am trying to fix whatever references I could find from the official website of Azores but all in Portuguese language. It will take a day more for me to do the editing fully. I had to rush to the doctor as my BP shot up. There may still be some referencing needed, which you may be able to locate on the geography and economy sections. --Nvvchar. 13:03, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Yes, as I mentioned earlier, I nom'ed Jamaica Inn, along with the priories, one of which, Alvingham, is dyk approved and will be the lead hook in one of the queues. As Nvv mentions, an issue needs clarification at Sempringham's dyk nom regarding documenting the PD documents. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 18:28, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
...and now Jam Inn and Semp Pr have also been approved and moved to queues as lead hooks! :) --Rosiestep (talk) 19:03, 28 December 2010 (UTC)
Hi. Nice work on Jamaica Inn! I've had a look in my few non-Sussex books, but unfortunately I haven't found anything on it. Hassocks5489 (tickets please!) 19:18, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Missing village[edit]

Following through on Wisdom Christianity (AfD discussion), I notice that we lack a village in India where people, we are told, did things with rocks. Uncle G (talk) 15:49, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Another lousy AFD nom I see... Nothing new there then! I'll see if I can dig up some info on Tannirpalli, don't fancy my chances though..♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:53, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Look for information on its gem-cutting industry. Uncle G (talk) 16:03, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Unfortunately, I could not find any details for the village or the gem cutting industry or even the temple for a 5x; strange though. The Saccidananda Ashram and the trinity who established it generated a lot of controversy.--Nvvchar. 02:32, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Re: Jonestown[edit]

Most certainly, although a couple of sections need expansion - it's fairly clear which ones due to the length. Regards, Ironholds (talk) 15:58, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Nick Chaldakov[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Nick Chaldakov requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.

If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. jsfouche ☽☾Talk 17:20, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Sempringham Priory[edit]

Nice expansion, but maybe the article could benifit from the addition of {{infobox monastery}}? Mjroots (talk) 17:47, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

On vacation this week, but I'll look at Jules Monchanin and User:Nvvchar/Songgwangsa again later. Got working on Georg Carl Amdrup and had the hardest time finding 'the hook' but eventually did. --Rosiestep (talk) 23:54, 29 December 2010 (UTC)

Completed my inputs in User:Nvvchar/Songgwangsa. Coordinates are already there in the main space. As regards Therra Cha, you may like to request the User who translated from Portuguese to fix references in History, Chronology, Economy and Geography sections. I could not find the references. I have completed my inputs here too User:Nvvchar/Balsas River. --Nvvchar. 13:34, 30 December 2010 (UTC) ‎

Fair use rationale for File:JukkaSipila.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:JukkaSipila.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Courcelles 05:40, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Infoboxes...[edit]

You like infoboxes, right? Could you fix whatever it is wrong with the Density field in the Tegal,_Central_Java article? cheers. --Merbabu (talk) 08:02, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. --Merbabu (talk) 11:34, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Terra Chã[edit]

Working on furthering citations on the subject: very obscure references, having difficult time finding the basis for the Portuguese Wikipedia comments. I should have improvements to the citations. Ruben JC (Zeorymer) (talk) 16:28, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Songgwangsa[edit]

Who founded Songgwangsa and when is unclear... there are 3 different sentences mentioning 3 dynasties and 2 people so I've placed 3 "citation needed" tags at the end of these sentences. I left the same note on Nvv's page as I'm not sure who added the content in these 3 sentences. Thanks. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:58, 30 December 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the fix. Nom'ed it. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:33, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

I have nominated the Balsas River article. I have also expanded Bodinnick by more than 5x, which you may now like to nominate.--Nvvchar. 06:08, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
