The 1972–73 season was Manchester City F.C.'s eighty-first season of league football, and seventh consecutive season in the Football League First Division. This season is also considered to be the eighth season of the glory era of Manchester City, which started at the appointment of the managerial partnership of Joe Mercer and Malcolm Allison in 1965. In this season, Manchester City won the Charity Shield for the third and most recent time.
