S4BE Edit-a-thon[edit]

This event is part of S4BE Wikipedia Week. Students 4 Best Evidence is launching a week long editing campaign to improve the quality of Wikipedia health articles using evidence based references such as Cochrane Reviews. The aim of the week is to get students adding and editing the latest health evidence and evidence–based concepts on Wikipedia.

To start off the week an online and live Edit-a-thon will be hosted on Tuesday September 16th at 12.00pm BST. Online via Google Hangout |at this link and Live at the UK Cochrane Centre, Oxford.

Event[edit]

  • Please bring your laptops with you. If for any reason you can't we do have a couple of laptops which you could use. Be warned though they aren't great.
  • Training will be available on the day;
  • experienced Wikipedians will be joining us
  • there will also be a writing workshop
  • Cancer Research UK will be telling us about their experience with Wikipedia
  • Come early so we can catch Lunch together
  • Try to prepare using the learning material above so that you can squeeze in as many edits as possible to win the PRIZE!

Suggested Topics[edit]

Feel free to edit any topic! We have put together a number of ready tasks if that helps. Please make a note on the specific task list if you want to work on a certain task. You are welcome to add extra suggestions under other suggestions at the bottom of that page and be sure to read through the dos and donts and how to edit the page.

People there to help[edit]

Technical formal details[edit]

The students will do one or more tasks of the following tasks:

  • add high quality references to health articles.
  • rewrite health article ledes to be a comprehensive overview of the topic in simple language with sufficient references.
  • add maintenance templates to health articles that need further attention.
  • remove duplicate content or excessive wording from existing health articles.
  • fill in gaps in content in existing health articles using high quality sources.
