Funfly is the handle of Martyn Thatcher. The name 'funfly' has been used for many years by model flying enthusiasts to describe an open day event. It was registered by me as the name of an aviation business in 1988 and part of this business involved a (now defunct) search engine (www.funfly.co.uk) specialising in aviation matters. The 1980's were early days for search engines and funfly.co.uk was a mild success which, although did not bring riches, gave me a good grounding on internet activities both good and bad! Eventually the search engine system was swamped by the likes of Yahoo etc. then dominated by Google. Over the last few years coping with the spamming and automated submissions, particularly from porn sites, has made the administration of such a site a nightmare and, to be frank, with modern technology just as good, all enquiries can be made from the major search engines. So the plug was pulled on the search engine but the website www.funfly.co.uk remains and nowadays is host to a simple pre-flight memory jogger. The name Funfly also appears in France as an internet travel agent and still within the names of a few model aircraft suppliers. In 2010, after three years study at Glyndwr University, I gained a Foundation Degree in Art & Design and in 2012 completed and gained a BA(Hons.) in Graphic Design. I no longer fly due to a combination of age and finance. I continue with Graphic design and website design and support my wife who is a skilled silverworker and enamelist. I play clarinet and a bit of golf.
