Earthquake and tsunami in Tohoku Japan

Japan suffered the worse. It was hit by huge 9.0 magnitude earthquake,4th largest earthquake ever recorded,with 40 meter high tsunami.Tsunami and nuclear crisis that killed almost 19,000 people and stranded 315,000 evacuees, including refugees who fled radiation from the devastated Fukushima atomic plant.The 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck northeast Japan at 2:46 p.m., had swept away residents and their homes.Walls of water whisked away houses and cars as terrified residents fled the coast. A ship carrying more than 100 people was reportedly swept away by the tsunami.The earthquake occurred as a result of thrust plate faulting on or near the subduction zone interface plate boundaries between the Pacific and North American plates. The effects will be seen many years to come. The destruction surprised the world, because few expected a quake or tsunami of that size even in seismically active Japan. Some 300,000 people are still homeless, living in residential camps, according to the Japanese government.

Christchurch Earthquake

In New Zealand,earthquake destroyed buildings and homes and collapsed like paper,causing death of more than 190 people,making it the second-deadliest natural disaster recorded in New Zealand (after the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake), and fourth-deadliest disaster of any kind recorded in New Zealand, with nationals from more than 20 countries among the victims.The earthquake caused widespread damage across Christchurch, especially in the central city and eastern suburbs, with damage exacerbated by buildings and infrastructure already being weakened by the 4 September 2010 earthquake and its aftershocks. Significant liquefaction affected the eastern suburbs, producing around 400,000 tonnes of silt. The shallow earthquake was reported to be felt across the South Island and the lower and central North Island.

Van earthquake

The earthquake and its aftershocks affected much of eastern Turkey, demolishing hundreds of buildings and burying numerous victims under the rubble. In the city center of Van, at least 100 people were confirmed dead, and 970 buildings collapsed in and around the city.The natural gas, water, power, and communication systems in Van were all reported affected and in function again within 24 hours after the earthquake.Most of the buildings collapsed along the town's main road and were residential, raising the possibility of a higher death toll. In smaller villages near the epicenter, the shaking demolished almost all the brick houses.The death toll was caused primarily from building collapse in urban areas. However, A mother and 2 week old baby were rescued after 48 hours under the rubble. Its a moment of celebration.

Australia having the worst flood ever since 1970,causing injuries,struck by tropical cyclone yasi.Three-quarters of the state of Queensland was declared a disaster zone.[At least 70 towns and over 200,000 people were affected.It is a series of floods that hit Queensland, Australia, beginning in December 2010 including Brisbane, Rockhampton, Emerald, Bundaberg, Dalby, Toowoomba, Roma, and Ipswich.35 deaths have been attributed to the floods, 21 of which are from the Toowoomba and the Lockyer Valley area. Additionally,9 people are listed as missing, after the catastrophic flash flood.

Flood in Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka also hit by flood,wide spread flooding and evacuation of hundred of thousand of people.More than 325,000 people had been displaced by flooding. At least 27 people have died and more than a million are affected. Nearly 8,000 houses were damaged by the latest wave of the floods caused by heavy rains. Sri Lanka depends on monsoon rains for irrigation and power generation, but the seasonal downpours frequently cause death and damage to property in low-lying areas as well as mountainous regions.

As emergency services in Thailand battle against the country's worst flooding in half a century, parts of the nation's infrastructure remained literally at a standstill.Advancing floodwater in Bangkok saw commercial flights at Don Mueang Airport shut down, as the wheels of decommissioned jetliners on the flood-hit runways were left completely submerged.The floods in Thailand have so far claimed 381 lives, while the country's government is considering a recovery plan which could cost $30billion.

Washi Washed Philipines

While in Philippines, more than 1000 people were killed by tropical storm washi when the year is coming to an end. Washi, known in the Philippines as Sendong, may be the deadliest storm to strike any place in the world in 2011.The vast majority of the bodies were found in the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro, according to military officials and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. Five people were killed in a landslide, but all others died in flash flooding. The provinces of Compostela Valley and Zamboanga del Norte were also hit.
