Knowledge Universe is a privately held global company based in Singapore.[1]

The United States operations are based in Portland, Oregon and the CEO is Tom Wyatt, who was hired in 2012 and was previously the CEO of Old Navy. [2] Mike Ensing is the Chief Financial Officer.[3] Dr. Elanna Yalow, serves as the CEO of Early Learning Programs and Wei-Li Chong is the EVP of Human Resources [4]

Knowledge Universe is one of Oregon's largest privately held companies and a large employer in the Portland metro area. Executive leadership is based out of the Portland National Support Center in Portland's Lloyd District.

Knowledge Universe was founded in 1996 with investors like Larry Ellison, CEO of Oracle Corp. [6]

There are nearly 40,000 employees working for Knowledge Universe on three continents and there are approximately 2,000 locations in the United States between multiple brands & an additional 1,000 locations throughout the globe. Knowledge Universe educates 300,000 students daily.[7] [8]

In 2012, Knowledge Universe revenues were approximately $1.45 billion, down from about $1.6 billion in 2010. [9]

Knowledge Universe is the largest Early Childhood Education company in the United States, with brands which include KinderCare Learning Centers, CCLC®, Champions®, Cambridge Schools®, Knowledge Beginnings®, and the Grove Schools™. [10]

In 1997, Knowledge Universe bought a stake in LeapFrog Enterprises, the 4th largest toy company in the United States. [11]

Knowledge Universe "distributed 73% of its LeapFrog holdings" in May 2003. [12]

In June 2009, Knowledge Universe acquired UK based Busy Bees Childcare, Ltd. [13]

The organization annually sponsors the Knowledge Universe Educator of the Year of Award in the United States, where best in class early childhood education teachers are awarded $10,000 for their innovative teaching practices. [14]
