This is Invertzoo's user page on the English language Wikipedia. My user name reflects a life-long interest in invertebrate zoology. I am a citizen scientist, a naturalist, specifically a serious amateur malacologist; I have 40 published scientific papers. Some people call me "The Snail Lady", or "The Shell Lady".

I am interested in all mollusks, and indeed in all of nature. I am happiest on some far-flung island in the tropics, with my field notebook and backpack of collecting equipment, sitting on a flat sandy beach on a rocky bay with a coral reef, on a calm day after stormy weather. I live in NYC, and have been on the volunteer staff at AMNH since 2000, first in Malacology and then in Invertebrate Paleontology.

Here on Wikipedia I enjoy research, writing, re-writing, improving prose, clarifying, organizing, and adding images to articles. I believe that Wikilove, aka Aloha, is a very important concept here.

I don't relish routine cleanup on thousands of stub articles, but I have done that, and continue to do that.

I was born in and lived half of my life in England, and after that in the USA, first on the West Coast and then on the East Coast. Every year since 1991 I have visited the Lesser Antilles, West Indies, where I am currently investigating the marine mollusk fauna of several of the Leeward Islands, especially Nevis,  Saint Kitts and Nevis.

I started here in the summer of 2007. I have given numerous images to Wikimedia Commons. My Meta account is here. I have made nearly 83,000 edits, all by hand (none by automated software). During March 2010 I was number 317 on the Wikipedia:List of Wikipedians by number of recent edits, (and a much higher rank if you don't count the bots and the sysops.) By February 2013, I was number 401 by total number of edits: [1] And... yes, I am well aware that editcountitis is a serious disease! [2].

The first time that I had the pleasure and honor of meeting HRH Jimmy Wales, our handsome and somewhat mysterious founder, was at the first Wiki-Conference New York, 25th July 2009, where I gave a talk on the growth and development of Zell-blazon.svg Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods. I also conversed with Mr. Wales on Oct 6th and 7th, 2010.

My user page is long, so you are welcome to ignore it, or only look at the sections you are interested in.

Best wishes to you all, Invertzoo (talk).

Article statistics WikiProject Gastropods, WikiProject Bivalves[edit]

A lot of my work is as a member of the Gastropod Project. Note that we have no unassessed articles and none unrated for importance. Info: New articles[3]Project talk page Project page Popular pages Random gastropod article function Bouchet & Rocroi Update data, Orphaned articles

Started in January 2012, we now also have a Bivalve Project: New articles, Project page, Project talk page.

Recent Wikipedia editing[edit]

2014 Checking all new hand-made articles on gastropod-related or bivalve-related subjects. Welcome any new users to Wikipedia and invite both new and established editors who have made relevant new articles to join one of our two projects. Add project template to all new gastropod or bivalve articles, and expand any minimal templates. Adding genus article where there are species articles but no corresponding genus article.

2013 Helping User:Daniel Cavallari make Dog conch into the gastropod project's first FA. Checking (and when necessary fixing) all new hand-made gastropod and bivalve articles, based on new article bot listings. Welcoming new contributors of gastropod or bivalve articles and inviting the contributors to join the projects. Welcoming all new good-faith contributors that I come across who have written on any subject.

To do list:

* finish adding these images to articles, including adding images to genus articles where needed. commons:Shells_by_H._Zell

* Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods/January 2010/N to Z, all basic clean-up completed by Nov 16th, 2012!

* Wikipedia:WikiProject Gastropods/Needed genus None left at the end of 2011, and none now in October 2012. Excellent!

2012 Helping start up WikiProject Bivalves. Upgrading stub class tag on many bivalve articles. A little fix-up up on the existing stubs for the more obscure classes of mollusks, including the solenogasters. Completing all basic clean up on gastropod articles that used to be stubs, N – Z. Created a navigational template for gastropod anatomy articles, and one for bivalve anatomy articles too.

2011 Creating stub articles for missing genera. Checking and cleaning up new snail articles and tagging them with our project template. Welcoming new contributors of snail-related articles, inviting them to join Project Gastropods, and training them in the ways of Wikipedia. In November almost 40 new stubs about the original National Lampoon and working on that template.

2010 A great deal of work on improving Portal:Gastropods. Also going through thousands of older gastropod stub articles and others (including the family articles), fixing them up with lots of different clean up. I also tried to clean up some of the "most popular" (i.e. the most often accessed) gastropod articles, and upgraded their importance.
