Tom McCulloch is a Scottish novelist and poet known for novels such as The Stillman, A Private Haunting, and The Accidental Recluse.

Early years[edit]

Tom McCulloch was born in Wick, Caithness in 1975. Growing up, he moved around due to his father's work as an Exciseman, but eventually, his family settled in Ross-shire, under the shadow of Ben Wyvis. He obtained a degree in History from Glasgow University in 1998, a PhD in International History from the London School of Economics in 2005, and later pursued a Masters in Sustainable Development from the University of the Highlands and Islands in 2008. He grew up in a literary environment, with both his father and grandfather being writers. Influenced by notable authors like Norman MacCaig, Neil Gunn, and Jack Kerouac, Tom began publishing his works in magazines like Northwords during the 1990s.

Career[edit]

McCulloch has achieved recognition for his novels. His debut novel, The Stillman (2014), earned him the title of Amazon Rising Star. His following works, A Private Haunting (2016) and The Accidental Recluse (2018), garnered critical acclaim. Tom has also contributed to crime fiction anthologies, such as the story "The Drop" in the compilation Jacked (Run Amok Crime, 2022).
