The best summer of my life was when I was 12. My friends and I built a huge plywood tank conquered the neighborhood and ruled as philosopher-kings over a cultural empire of comics, models and penny-arcade games.

During a hitchiking trip to Europe when I was 19, I smuggled people in and out of communist Yugoslavia.

When I was 40, I did a Bungy jump and have terrible vertigo ever since.
