Themed after the Star Wars saga, RotJ was originally based off the CircleMUD code-base.

History and Development[edit]

Revenge of the Jedi MUD began as experimental project by students of Keene State College and Iowa State University in December of 1995. The original code base was CircleMud 2.0 and was later expanded to CircleMud3.0bpl11 with DG 0.99pl7 and OLC1.5 in 1998. Since its inseption, RotJ has expanded its leadership and administrative staff to meet the needs of a growing player base and customized the base code. Highlights of those customizations include random equipment generation, a player influenced faction environment, an automated quest system, space and vehicle based combat. Revenge of the Jedi posted a copyright (Txu 1-066-331) of developed code on January 15, 2003.[1]

As a text-based game RotJ has the flexibility to allow easy contributions to both the code base and the game world. Because of this RotJ is constantly evolving while growing in size. New game administrators and world builders are commonly pulled from the active player population and all work is done on a volunteer basis.

Game Play[edit]

Based on the Star Wars franchise, RotJMUD is a free to play multi-user text game where user created players explore the galaxy while leveling, completing quests, improving their skills and gathering equipment to improve their character.

Exploration consists of visiting various planets, moon, ships or other locations in the Star Wars universe. The game follows a universal time-frame, meaning characters from two different time periods will both exist somewhere in the game world. A player influenced faction system controls the placement major movie characters, ensuring that only one star character, such as Luke Skywalker can be found anywhere in the galaxy.

Game Client Options[edit]

Like almost all other MUD's, Revenge of the Jedi MUD can be played using a generic telnet connection, a MUD client or a webpage interface.[2] In practice, telnet and webpage interfaces are functional but do not offer the entire easy of play toolset available with many MUD clients.
