  • replacing "is comprised of" with "comprises"
  • replacing "was comprised of" with "comprised"

That passive voice reverses the polarity of the transitive verb, making it nonsensical. You say "parking lots contain cars" not "parking lots are contained by cars". The word "comprise" literally means "embrace." Besides, parsimony benefits.
