Lucas Daniel Altuzarra (born 31 May 1996) is an Argentine singer, songwriter, radio host, English-language teacher and sworn translator.

He began his music career in mid-2019 as the main vocalist and songwriter from the Argentine electro-pop band, SeO. During his tenure, the band released the non-album single "Bailar Solo Bailar" (English: "Dance, Just Dance") in late 2019. After parting ways almost a year and a half later to focus on his solo career amid creative differences, he released his first album in April 2021, and has continued recording ever since.

Background[edit]

Altuzarra was born on 31 May 1996, in La Plata, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, the oldest son of Pablo Altuzarra (born in 1974) and Natalia Palla (born in 1976). He also has a younger brother, Nicolás (born in 1999).

He graduated from the National University of La Plata in May 2021 as a sworn translator, having studied at the Faculty of Humanities and Education Sciences from 2014 to 2019, and later obtained his degree in December 2021. He enrolled at the Technical and Teaching Training Institute No. 8 in La Plata at the end of 2020 and began attending radio host courses in March 2021.

From February to August 2022, he co-hosted a radio programme called "Mañanitas" at Radio Altavoz FM 94.1 alongside fellow radio host Ana Valle. He has also been working as an English-language teacher at ETON, an English-language centre located in Gonnet, La Plata, since March 2022.

Music career[edit]

2013-2019[edit]

Altuzarra had first ventured into recording tracks when he covered several popular songs for an unreleased album titled Here I Am. Only a few of these covers have been uploaded on the artist's official YouTube channel. Some of these include a jazz version of "Billie Jean" by Michael Jackson, and "Home" by Michael Bublé.

2019-2021[edit]

Around mid 2019, Altuzarra became the main singer (and later songwriter) of the Argentine electro-pop band SeO, which was then composed of band founder Sergio Otero (keyboard, former main vocalist, later background vocalist), Alexis Pilía (bass), and Lucas Stefan (electric guitar). During Altuzarra's time, the band only released one single, "Bailar Solo Bailar" (featuring local rapper Boomtrack) in November 2019, alongside its music video (the first ever music video in which Altuzarra appeared). An alternative music video which Altuzarra directed was later uploaded in December 2019.

In 2020, following Stefan's dismissal, the band performed in Buenos Aires as a trio (which would become Altuzarra's final show as a member) before the COVID-19 pandemic interrupted rehearsals and the evolving writing sessions. The band later incorporated a new guitarist alongside a drummer. Once the band began rehearsing again, Altuzarra penned several songs, including an English-language version of "Bailar Solo Bailar" (titled "Come Dance"), "enigmatic" (a song ultimately released in 2022 on LUCAS), "Until I Say So", "Desdibujado" (then titled "Videogame") and "I Want to Forget", though all would be rejected. The latter three would eventually be re-recorded and released on DESDIBUJADO (English: "Blurred", 2021).

After the band rejected more songs, Altuzarra began developing the concept of what would be his first extended play, untitled as of this point, starting in June 2020.

At the end of September 2020, Altuzarra first teased the release of the EP (now named Desdibujado) with a music video which featured an early mix of a song titled "This Is Me (Prelude)". The next month, Altuzarra released the initial version of title track (retroactively referred to as the single edit) with its music video, which has so far received more than 300 views on YouTube. This was followed by a third song, "I Want to Forget," in November.

In January 2021, following numerous creative differences and the fact that Altuzarra had finalised a deal with distributing music company Amuse and had founded his own label (LDA Records), Altuzarra left the band to exclusively focus on his solo career.

Eventually, the EP project was delayed from its initial December 2020 release since the artist wished to add more songs to make a full-fledged record. With over 30 demos, the final tracklist did not feature "Ese Chico" (which became a non-album single). This song ended up being replaced with "Until I Say So". On 9 April, as Altuzarra released another single, "Tu Mundo", he announced the LP release date and still bearing the same title.

On 23 April, DESDIBUJADO was released and was supported by three singles: the title track, “I Want to Forget” and “Tu Mundo” (English: “Your World”). “Until I Say So” received a music video, while “No Te Veo Conmigo” (English: “I Can’t Picture You With Me”) was a promotional single. Both lead and second singles were re-recorded and remastered for the album.

From April to September 2021, Altuzarra began hosting a podcast on Anchor called Breaking Down DESDIBUJADO in which he discussed the creation of each song in the album. So far, only the first six songs have been featured. The podcast is on hiatus as of 2022.

A few weeks after the release of his debut album, Altuzarra began working on two separate projects: a remix companion to DESDIBUJADO, which would be later titled U GOT IT: DESDIBUJADO IN THE MIX and a new studio effort. The former, released on 23 July, featured seven remixes plus two new songs, one of which became the project's second and final single ("S'il Te Plaît"), and went on to become one of Altuzarra's most successful singles. None of these singles were promoted with music videos.

Altuzarra's second studio album released in 2021.

From the first recording sessions that took place after releasing DESDIBUJADO came what would be the lead single from his second studio album, "ojalá te mueras" (English: "I Hope You Die") that was released on 2 July. Altuzarra released the second and final second single, "purple", on 6 August. "change the game" was the only promotional single and was released on the same day as the rest of the album. The album was announced an hour before its release, marking the first time he did not announce it weeks prior to the release date.

SOLO TEMO EL FINAL ANTES NEGADO. (English: “I Only Fear the End Previously Denied”) was released on 17 September, nearly five months after the release of his debut album and two months after U GOT IT: DESDIBUJADO IN THE MIX.

Like its predecessor, the album is mainly sung in English, with three songs in Spanish. The singer came up with the concept of the album a few days after his debut album was released. Inspired by the turmoil already dealt with (including its consequences), SOLO TEMO EL FINAL ANTES NEGADO. is a work that delves into the struggles between the good and bad sides of a person while keeping love and its issues as the main focus through which the artist wanted to discuss such struggles. The artist, as done before, wrote, composed, and produced the whole album.

It was recorded between April and August. According to the artist, the album takes a darker direction both lyrically and musically, with its theme subjects dealing with suicide, deception, lying, unsafe sex, and letting go, while aiming at a pop/trap/R&B fusion.

On 21 November, Altuzarra performed some of his songs for the very first time at the 139th anniversary of the founding of La Plata, including "deserve it", "enigmatic", a remix version of "obsessed", "Desdibujado", and "No Te Veo Conmigo."

Altuzarra began writing songs for his next project, eventually releasing two songs: "obsessed" in October, and "enigmatic" in November. These two singles would appear on his third album. He also began developing a follow-up remix album which became DEUX: FEELINGS REMIXED.

Released on 31 December, it was the artist’s nineteenth and final release of the year. Such record contained 14 remixes in total, including eight remixes from Altuzarra's previous studio album, SOLO TEMO EL FINAL ANTES NEGADO., a remix of "S'il Te Plaît", three remixes of "obsessed" and a remix of "enigmatic" (both singles from LUCAS, an album released in 2022), and a new remix of “Desdibujado”. As with all previous releases, Altuzarra single-handedly wrote, produced, and remixed all songs. An edited mix of "ojalá te mueras" served as its only single on 17 December.

2022[edit]

In January 2022, Altuzarra released his first official cover, "something about us," originally performed by the French duo Daft Punk. During the following three months, he released more singles from his third album.

LUCAS (an acronym for Love Unveils Courage at Sunset), the self-titled third (and fifth overall) studio album, was released on 6 May 2022.

Five singles were released to support the album: "obsessed", "enigmatic", "tonight" (released on 25 February), while the Rhodium Nights Mix served as the fourth single on 25 March. The fifth and final single, "perfect", was released on 15 April.

According to the artist, the album is a mixture of synth-wave/pop/electronic music, similar to several songs from DESDIBUJADO, and the pop/R&B trap fusion from SOLO TEMO EL FINAL ANTES NEGADO., while incorporating nu-disco elements. It contains eight songs, an interlude, and a remix of “tonight”.

In August, Altuzarra announced the release of his first compilation album, aptly titled Greatest Hits. This career-spanning collection included songs from his first three studio albums, his two remix albums plus a new remix, and a brand new song, “EVERYBODY (MOVE YOUR BODY)”, which sampled "Owner of a Lonely Heart" by Yes and "Playing Your Game, Baby" by Barry White. The compilation also included a radio edit of "No Te Veo Conmigo" which was previously unreleased.

Altuzarra has been working on TREAT ME BETTER, which is scheduled to be released in January 2023, after being delayed from its initial October 2022 date. According to him, the new album will be a dance-pop record that will deal with themes such self-empowerment, self-love, freedom, and moving forward.

So far, only four song titles have been revealed: the title track (rumoured to be the lead single), "SEX", "BREAK AWAY", "(I'M GONNA) LOVE ME", "PLAIN CONFUSION", "CAN YOU FEEL IT", "VOS NO", and "LETTING GO", the latter being written and recorded during the LUCAS album sessions.

2023[edit]

Altuzarra has released two singles from his upcoming album, including the title track, plus a cover of Lali's song, "Disciplina."
