[edit] Me

I am currently studying for a PhD in psychology at Newman University College in Birmingham, England. The area I am researching is the Dysexecutive Syndrome which is acquired brain injury to the frontal lobes, an area responsible for executive function. When people have these types of brain injury, the resulting effects on their behaviour, planning & emotional regulation can cause a great deal of stress for their relatives who are caring for them, and this is the emphasis of my research.

I started using Wikipedia for a some preliminary research in my university work, and consider it to be about as good as doing a thorough google search for about half an hour to an hour. Whilst some articles are very good, others are much worse and need to be re-written or more thoroughly researched. That's why I started editing things.

There is a danger with Wikipedia. As some articles are of a very high quality, it is possible to fall into believing that all of the articles are similarly so, and accept what is written within them as fact. When reading about something I know lots about already I generally find that the articles are fairly accurate, but I am trusting other contributors to Wiki when I read an article which is about something I don't know.

I figure though, that for every vandal, misinformer or just plain ignorant person (who thinks they are correct) there are others who will fix those bad entries. People are more inclined to spend time creating and fixing things than destroying them.

[edit] The Psychology Wiki

The Logo for the Psychology Wiki.

The Psychology Wiki is all about Psychology, and is edited by Psychologists. This means that our articles may eventually be of a higher standard (on average) due to more expert editing. I'm not saying that Wikipedia is bad here, but it is more variable.

Here is my userpage there. See also the Community Portal which I have helped to redesign.
