An occasional editor who doesn’t usually contribute a large amount of original text or material, or start new articles – more likely to be found now and then copy/sub-editing existing text or removing outright the more glaring pieces of random editorialising, original research or biased/partisan material they happen to encounter. Sadly, due to a mildly disputatious nature and a perhaps naïve belief in the ability of rational argument to win out, often to be found over-extended on talk pages from time to time as a result of trying to achieve the above. Most of what I know and understand tends to be in the areas of politics, history, music, films, TV and wine.

  • Pages in this place may often be seriously flawed, badly written and full of errors, but if everyone who ever looked at a page here spent even the odd five minutes from time to time sorting out any problems, mistakes or joke edits/vandalism – while putting their own preferences and prejudices to one side, and being a little less certain about most things unless they have good reason to be – it might actually bit-by-bit make its way towards being a relatively neutral and accurate record.
  • Unfortunately there’s way too much of people using pages as a platform to push their own, often fairly random views, opinions and analysis about everything from culture and art to politics. Sometimes they do even bother to find a third party source or reference for that content. However, this is meant to be an encyclopedia of sorts, not a dumping ground for everything that you happened to read elsewhere on the internet or in a newspaper op-ed the other day. Some people seem to think that a page can’t be “neutral” or complete unless and until it matches up with, or at least gives some prominence to, the way that they see the world. Which of course is not quite how the principle works.
