Hello! I work in British publishing and have an interest in authors, illustrators and biographies in general. I also have an interest in articles related to aviation and the English county of Hampshire.
I became a registered user here in February 2008 and have contributed over 8,000 edits (the majority on article or article Talk pages). Most of these contributions will have been in relation to the Projects mentioned below.
My general approach to articles which have been tagged with one of the major problems is to try to find ways of fixing or improving them, if I think they are capable of rescue. There are some subjects that I will leave for others (one-line stubs on international footballers and other sports people, for instance). In these cases, I make sure that the article is tagged for a relevant Project and move on. If I've contributed to an article (or tagged it for further work or deletion), I keep it on my watchlist until the matter is resolved, in case I need to go back and contribute further.
Many of the problematic articles have been created by new users. In these cases, I try to make sure that I leave a note on the User Talk page to explain the changes I have made and encourage him/her to read the guidelines provided in the "Welcome" message (adding it if necessary). The automated warning messages can be very alarming to new users and I think it is important to offer to help if they want it.
Generally, I prefer to conduct conversations with other editors on their own Talk pages or on the relevant article Talk page, as this keeps the whole conversation in one place. If you post a message for me on my Talk page, I will reply there.
My previous User Name was Plad2.
I spent most of 2010 and 2011 finding references for unreferenced biographies of living people, initially focusing on the list tagged for the Children's Literature Project, then moving onto the team working on the Unreferenced BLP Rescue Project. That was both interesting and satisfying (although I have learned more about Irish hurlers and beauty pageant contestants in the process than I feel is entirely necessary). It was a genuinely collaborative effort.
I'm proud of these...
