I am looking for some preliminary input on the creation of one or more new categories.

I am thinking of creating an eponymous "Category:Summer Science Program" to go with the Summer Science Program (SSP) article.

That article lists a dozen notable alumni who have their own Wikipedia articles. I've also identified at least five faculty who have their own Wikipedia articles. A handful of such notable people have also appeared regularly at SSP as guest speakers. All of these would go into the category.

The program focuses its educational curriculum on a project to study an asteroid, so asteroids play an important role with SSP. There is an asteroid named after SSP, and at least five other asteroids are either discovered by or named after SSP alumni and faculty. All of these would go into the category, and supporting information would be provided on each asteroid page.

SSP has campuses in California and New Mexico. It could be classified as a summer camp (the people involved in the program hate using the word "camp," but the program clearly fits the definition in the summer camp article and is even linked from there). It would thus be logical to categorize the new category under Category:Summer camps in California and Category:Summer camps in New Mexico, but the latter does not exist. I think this falls under the non-diffusing subcategories rule, and it would be appropriate to list SSP under Category:Summer camps in California (best fit for the California campus) and Category:Summer camps in the United States (best fit for the New Mexico campus). It would also make sense for the new category to go under Category:Science education

My question is whether this organization is reasonable. Any problems with the above? Is there any additional parent category that would be appropriate?

I think the category is small enough that a single category suffices, but I could see creating several smaller categories. For example, we could create (using abbreviated names here for convenience) "Category:SSP People" and "Category:SSP Asteroids". People could be further broken down into "Category:SSP Alumni" and "Category:SSP Faculty." The people would reasonably fit under Category:People by educational institution in the United States. I don't think any split is worthwhile given the small size, but I would like to hear opinions of others.
