[edit] Ongoing FAC and FAR maintenance

Nothing in this section is essential to the FA process; it's just routine "stuff" I've been doing for several years. The only thing that determines whether an article is FA is whether it was added to or removed from WP:FA by the FA director or his delegates SandyGeorgia, Karanacs and Ucucha. The rest is for the convenience of other editors. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:53, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] New FAC listings

All new WP:FAC listings should be checked:

  1. The Nominator(s): line should be the first line on every FAC, for User:Rick Block's scripts that feed WP:WBFAN. This is part of the FAC template preload, but sometimes nominators mess it up, and it's not automatically pre-loaded when there is a previous FAC. Make sure all noms are included, example.
  2. The Wikipedia:Featured article tools should be on each FAC page, in noinclude tags. They are part of the automatic preload for new FACs, but may not be included when there was a previous FAC, and may need to be added. If items are displaying incorrectly, special characters in the article title may need to be corrected.
  3. Check the talk page of every new FAC for:
    1. the {{fac}} template at the top of the page (many nominators forget, and it should be the template, not a subst.
    2. old peer reviews archived and closed (if not, leave a note, stalls the bot)
    3. articles may not be at PR, GAN and FAC at the same time
    4. convert old DYK templates (example)
    5. flag former featured articles in red so I'll remember to adjust WP:FFA if they pass,[1] also indicate if they've been on mainpage, see Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Autism
    6. general talk page cleanup, banners, dykdate added to articlehistory if present, and all templates needed to complete articlehistory in place and complete, old afds dealt with (sample). Clean up missing TOC when needed, example.

[edit] Ongoing FACs

Check WP:FACs regularly for

  1. Unsigned entries (surprisingly frequent, a sig needs to be attached to every declaration, add {{unsigned}} as needed, and often, when discussion gets long, the {{interrupted}} template is needed to attach a declaration to its owner, sample).
  2. Graphics or templates (see the WP:FAC instructions, they slow down the page and often need to be removed)
  3. Sub-sections (see the WP:FAC instructions, they need to be removed when inserted except on very long noms)
  4. Inappropriate strikes and caps (see the WP:FAC instructions, nominators should not strike others' comments, and caps should be used sparingly).
  5. Monitor for (surprisingly frequent) double declarations of Support or Oppose, or unbolded or almost hidden supports or opposes. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:16, 10 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Nominator withdraw

Elcobbola (talk · contribs), Maralia (talk · contribs) and Roger Davies (talk · contribs) know how to deal with withdrawals. If a nominator asks that a candidate be withdrawn, anyone can remove the transcluded FAC from the WP:FAC page and archive it to the current monthly archive (if there are no opposes, it is handled differently, consult editors above). If unsure about a withdrawal, contact the FAC director or delegate or one of the editors above.

  1. Remind the nominator to leave the {{fac}} template on the talk page until the bot comes through, per WP:FAC/ar. See also User:SandyGeorgia/Withdrawn FAC.

[edit] New FAR listings

All new WP:FAR listings should be checked:

  1. Make sure the FAR is actually a featured article (sometimes nominators meant to submit to WP:PR or WP:FAC) and complies with the instructions: at least three to six months between promotion and review, prior notification on article talk, and several days after mainpage appearance:
If it doesn't belong at FAR:
    1. Remove the transclusion from WP:FAR
    2. Remove the {{FAR}} template from the article talk page
    3. Leave a note for the nominator
    4. Decide if the FAR has to be maintenance- or author-deleted, or moved to a FAC or PR file, and transcluded there.
  2. Make sure notifications are done per the WP:FAR instructions, if not, prompt the nominator to do so.
  3. See if Wikipedia:Unreviewed featured articles needs to be flagged
  4. Make sure the templates are in order on the article talk page, including {{FAR}} at the top of the page (the template, not a subst).

[edit] Ongoing FARs

  1. Monitor for premature declarations of Keep/Remove and remind that Keep/Remove are not declared in the review phase
  2. Monitor daily for requests for feedback and more information
  3. As the end of review and FARC phases near, enter declarations (Move to FARC, close without FARC, Keep, Remove)
  4. Prompt the nominator if needed to return to the FAR for feedback.

[edit] Closed FARs

Update Wikipedia:Unreviewed featured articles as needed.

[edit] Other FA-related tasks

Nothing in this section is essential to the FA process; it's just routine "stuff" I've been doing for several years. The only thing that determines whether an article is FA is whether it was added to or removed from WP:FA by the FA director or his delegates SandyGeorgia, Karanacs and Ucucha. [edit] Daily (or weekly)

[edit] Articlehistory error category

Check Category:ArticleHistory error daily.

If the category is populated,

  1. locate and correct the articlehistory error on the article talk page (see instructions at {{Articlehistory}}), and
  2. leave a note for the editor who made the error. In (common) cases of repeat GA errors, also notify the GA talk pages.

For updating articlehistory templates, it is useful to have Dr pda (talk · contribs)'s articlehistory script.

[edit] Mainpage bot

Check the edit history at WP:Featured articles to see if Zorglbot has added the {{FA/BeenOnMainPage}} template (which bolds the WP:TFA) nightly at 0:00 UTC. If not,

  1. manually add {{FA/BeenOnMainPage}} to the TFA at the WP:Featured articles page, and
  2. notify User:Schutz, the bot operator. Follow up to make sure the bot runs the next night.

[edit] Sync FAC and FAR categories

Check Category:Wikipedia featured article candidates and Category:Wikipedia featured article review candidates to make sure they agree with WP:FAC and WP:FAR. (The FAC category always has one too many because of User talk:Bishonen/European toilet paper holder.)

If the numbers don't match,

  1. look for the nontranscluded entry.
  2. Often, the nontranscluded entry will be a driveby nom from a new editor who hasn't returned.
    1. If so, a decision has to be made about whether to transclude it to FAC or FAR, or leave a note to the editor about possibly maintenance deleting the page ({{db-g6}}).
If the page is maintenance deleted, be sure to also remove the {{FAC}} or {{FAR}} template from the talk page.
    2. If not, transclude the FAC or FAR to WP:FAC or WP:FAR, and notify the nominator. The nominator should be reminded to update the timestamp to reflect when the FAC was actually submitted, or add a note to the FAC to that effect.

[edit] Monthly

Update WP:FAS

Update stats at the Citations list

Open new monthly archive files at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Archived nominations and Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Featured log

[edit] TFA/R

Monitor Raul's mainpage scheduling at TFA; the easiest way to know when Raul schedules is to watchlist the next empty TFA page. When Raul schedules:

  1. Add the maindate parameter to {{articlehistory}} on the talk page of the scheduled article
  2. Update the chart and entries at WP:TFA/R after Raul schedules

Monitor the categories at WP:FA so that any category that passes 50 entries can be updated at Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/instructions

Update Wikipedia:Today's featured article/requests/pending as needed

[edit] Post-GimmeBot proposal
