I'm a performer/artist/educator who plays and teaches a variety of different musical instruments-- fiddle, guitar, mandolin, banjo, ukulele button accordion, concertina and more-- and music of many different traditions, ranging from early blues and old-time country to Jewish klezmer and Texas-Mexican tejano/norteno.

Since the early 1980s, I've been researching the history and organology of musical instruments the world over. In recent years I've been working with other scholars/researchers around the globe delving into the early history of the banjo and its roots in West Africa.
