Hullo fellow Wikipedian, greetings from London, England, UK, EU,
Wikipedia is a very interesting place or phenomenon however you choose to look at it. As an encyclopedia of everything, it must be hard to beat. Who is going to go out and spend substantial amounts of money on a printed encyclopedia when current events will make it redundant in a few weeks on topical issues? Just consider the entries on Saddam Hussein, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Putin or George W.Bush. I think it's definitely here to stay and quite democratic too. There are a few exceptions: the entry on Reagan is heavily biased in the subject's favour due to a small clique of Reaganites preventing a single word from being changed; the accusations of anti-semitism in the article on The Guardian are completely unfounded as any neutral would agree but a small group of Zionists keeps them in the article as they object to any (fair) criticism of the state of Israel; the accusations of the subjects personal wealth in the article on Fidel Castro are also unfounded but biased links exist supporting these libels. The worst examples of bias are on the various pages related to Global Warming; this is a highly contentious area but a small group of Warmists keep the fashionable view very much dominant with highly selective and biased links. The same few Warmist editors crop up again and again on these pages. Indeed so one-sided is the presentation that this place could be known as Warmistpedia.
I don't know what kind of Wiki editor I am. Some people seem to like deleting stuff here. I have made a few contributions to articles which have been deleted even they were made in good faith albeit unsourced. Where was AGF? Personally I have never felt the need the delete any contribution made by another editor except in obvious cases of vandalism or bias. I can't see the point in deleting articles and I don't know why anyone becomes a New Pages Patroller. Even if some completely unknown band, the Creeping Nobodies from Minneapolis say, has a Wiki page how does this make the whole website less valid? Either the Creeping Nobodies will achieve some kind of renown or they won't. If the former then they are notable; if not then no-one will ever look at their page anyway. Either way it's no skin off my nose. Having a Wiki page is not advertising as far as I can see. The more pages the better as far as I'm concerned. That said I have got two defunct and unavailable Fats Waller albums deleted. They have both been unavailable for decades and there was no point in retaining them.
SmokeyTheCat is a phenomonon in that he is a much better mathematician than Diana Ross, a considerably better singer than Sly Stallone, a far more accomplished cook than Lenin, a vastly better boxer than Kate Moss and a lot better at the high jump than Danny De Vito. Despite all of this he is not rich nor famous for some obscure reason.
"I've had a good evening but this wasn't it." Groucho Marx
"Brevity is the soul of lingerie." Dorothy Parker
"Los Angeles is what happens when 72 suburbs get together in search of a city." Also Dorothy. (I've never been to LA but this seems like a cool thing to write about it.)
I've written a virtual novel for adults :- www.Addicted2Brixton.com It's sex and love and much better than Emmanuelle and some readers have compared it to Henry Miller. I am hopeful that it is less sexist but more sexy.
