Salutations![edit]

Hello there. My name is Steel1943. I have been registered on Wikipedia since December 2006, but did not perform my first edit until October 2011, and ironically enough, the edit was a request on an article's talk page to edit a semi-protected article ... and then, my second edit was not until June 2012. It was a slow start, but since then, I have amassed over 20,000 edits. Why do I edit and help Wikipedia? Honestly, it's for the knowledge, and attempting to understand how one of the most viewed web sites in the world is able to run as efficiently as it does. I now know that due to the efforts of volunteers who dedicate the time out of their lives to bring forth knowledge that can be viewed by anyone, Wikipedia has flourished into the mass of encyclopedic-grade articles that it has become today.

I remember when Wikipedia was just starting out during the beginning of the millennium when I was just an "IP." As it was several years ago, I do not recall the edits I made, but I do recall the "old days" of underscores and CamelCase. Wow, how Wikipedia has changed since then. I hope to help the knowledge on this site grow, as well as make sure that no good information is lost ... but, at the same time, not waste time trying to protect something where insurance measures have been put into place for lost material; thank goodness that the ability to revert most deletions of material exists as a function here!

What I do[edit]

I used to have a whole list of goals listed in this section. However, due to my interests in helping Wikipedia constantly changing as time progresses, I removed it. Essentially, what I mainly do randomly revolves around these points:

  1. Monitoring and participating in most WP:XFD forums including WP:RFD, WP:RM, and WP:TFD. (I have no plans on doing any substantial work in either WP:CFD or WP:MFD for the time being, but hope to eventually motivate myself to become more involved in WP:AFD.)
  2. Creating redirects and disambiguation pages, whenever necessary and/or helpful.
  3. Monitoring the WP:AFC/R forum from time to time.
  4. Attempting to improve the functionality of highly-visible (and usually protected) templates without going against any sort of consensus to do otherwise, or breaking Wikipedia.
  5. Working on disambiguating links with the help of the WP:DPL system.
  6. Depreciating out-of-date templates.
  7. Moving and organizing all Wikipedia:Votes for deletion subpages (that are not redirects) and Wikipedia:Pages for deletion subpages (that are not redirects) for article-namespace pages that did not get transferred over to the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion namespace when a bot automatically moved all of the pages over in 2010. This task also includes fixing all links to point towards the proper page after the page is moved to preserve conversation history, as well as includes placing and/or adjusting {{Old AfD multi}} templates on articles' talk pages when necessary.
  8. ...And basically, doing other miscellaneous copy-edits to articles and vandalism reverts as I notice them during my rather random viewing of all types of articles.

Disambiguation or name pages I have created and/or contributed substantially[edit]

My conclusion[edit]

I'm here, and editing. So, enjoy your time here on Wikipedia. And don't worry, Wikipedians won't bite... well, most of the time. Face-smile.svg --Steel1943 (talk)
