[edit] Biography
[edit] Early life
Vladi Păunescu was born in Constanţa, Romania, sole child of economists Cornel Păunescu and Laura Păunescu (née Kesler) from Buzău and Constanţa, respectively. His maternal grandfather was of German ancestry, being a descendant of the Banat Swabians. Vladi spent his first years in Constanţa and moved to Buzău in 1988, due to parents' work duties. He also began education there, three years later.
He graduated high school at Colegiul Naţional Mihai Eminescu Buzău with notable results in Mathematics, Computer Science and foreign languages. Also a playwright for the high school's performing crew, Vladi developed interest in visual and performing arts, as well as for visual crafts, graphic design and web design.
[edit] Early career
At the age of 19, Vladi moved to Bucharest to attend the Academia de Studii Economice, at the faculty of International Economic Relationships, where he focused more on his studies rather than on an early professional career. After graduation, he entered a master's degree in Advertising at the Şcoala Naţională de Studii Politice şi Administrative.
In 2008, he joined the Marketing department of Asociaţia Independentă a Suporterilor Stelişti. Following a job in IT, Vladi concentrated on attending several contests and events for junior copywriters. After having won 2nd place at Atelierele ADfel 2008 and 3rd at Şcoala ADC 2009, he obtained an internship at McCann Erickson. [2][3][4]
Immediately upon it, he was hired as a junior copywriter by Violet Advertising, with work on the UNICEF, Dole, Real and eMAG accounts. One year later, he moved to Friends Advertising, with PSI Swaziland, Sibex, European Drinks and Silva among the clients. At Friends he also won the prize for best scenario at Teachers Film Festival with short film Romania, je t'aime, along with second place at the Roblogfest blog awards for company website Fishington Post.
[edit] Formation and own work
Vladi grew aware of his interest in the fields of marketing and communication in 2001, while chatting on the Internet. Without possessing any knowledge in the field, he began a process of self-branding around the IRC nickname of sickboy, with a marketing mix whose promotion was centered on his personal website, created in 2002. Despite the rather chaotic approach, the result was the achievement of greater notoriety among his high school colleagues. Similar results were also attained following branding his high school class of 12K to Doispeca using the same kind of approach. He rebranded himself in 2004 centering around his given name of Vladi. The branding remained centered on its online component, featuring the personal website, renamed to Planet Vladi, along with some other brand extensions using several online platforms.
Personal work and projects began intensifying with the development of the master's degree in Advertising and included branding for Advertisers' Pub (own master's year), Busola Creativă (branding agency targeted on tourism agencies), Honey Plaza (honey producer), Beciul Dinului (wine producer) and Tudor Tailor (custom-made suit producer).
In 2008, he became a member of the marketing department of Asociaţia Independentă a Suporterilor Stelişti, performing jobs involving copywriting and art direction.
In 2009, he maintained a blog called Blogul Viselor (Blog of Dreams), with daily posts focusing on reproducing previous night's dream.
During this time, Vladi attended several advertising contests for students. Successes came with 2nd place at Atelierele ADfel 2008 and 3rd at Şcoala ADC 2009. The latter also brought upon his entry in advertising.
[edit] Steaua support
Vladi's interest in sports dates back to childhood, with football as his favourite one. He played for a brief period for the junior team of FC Gloria Buzău in 1997.
His favourite team, Steaua Bucureşti, both the football club and the sports society, is a choice influenced during childhood by his father, supporter of the same club. He has been regularly attending matches at Stadionul Ghencea since his move to Bucharest in 2003. During the 2009-10 season, he was part of the people banned from Stadionul Ghencea, following the club's decision to exclude all season ticket holders from the Peluza Nord (North End) and Peluza Sud (South End).
Although not an ultra, Vladi is a supporter of the current. He has been a member of Asociaţia Independentă a Suporterilor Stelişti since 2007 and part of its Marketing department since 2008, also ranking among the fans protesting against Gigi Becali's ownership of the club.[5]
