St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.
I was born on December 19, 1990 in St. Louis, Missouri as Ann-Marie Chambless Shelton. My mother is a cartographer and computer programmer for the U.S. Government. My father worked for the Record Company which is also apart of the U.S. Government. I have an older brother who was born on January 31, 1987. I also have another older brother with whom I share a father with. My parents got divorced when I was four. At age one, I taught myself how to walk. At the age of two, I knew how to use a computer and I could read full books. I took tap, ballet and gymnastics at the age of five. I took swimming lessons when I was six and played softball when I was seven. I was and still am very artistic, thanks to my mom. In my elementary school, I was known as the girl who could draw. When I was eight, I moved out of the city and into the suburbs. It was very different from where I came from. At my old house, we didn't even have air conditioning but at this one, we had central air conditioning. I didn't really feel like I fitted in at school, but I soon got used to it. I started singing and wrote my first song at age ten. A year later, I taught myself how to play the piano and how to dance. My sophomore year in high school, I took world dance where I learned ballroom dancing like the Tango and the Waltz, I learned to Swing and I learned some Hawaiian, Middle Eastern and Indian belly dance, but my passion was Hip-Hop.
Most people who meet me for the first time think I'm Hispanic but I'm just mixed with a lot of different things. In truth, I don't have a drop of Hispanic blood in me. From my mother, I am of English, Irish, Scottish, Scots-Irish, Welsh, German, French and Cherokee descent. From my father, I am of Creole, Cajun, African American, French, Cherokee, Choctaw, Navajo, Seminole and East Indian(specifically, West Bengal) descent. Just as interesting as my heritage is who I'm related to. On my mother's side, I'm a direct descendant of Carl Friedrich Gauss, Governor William Bradford and John and Priscilla Alden. And being related to John and Priscilla makes me a cousin of John Adams, John Quincy Adams and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. I am also a cousin of Farrah Fawcett through my great great great grandmother and, through marriage, I am a relative of René Auguste Chouteau. On my dad's side, my step-great-grandfather is Arturo Alfonso Schomburg. Also, to add, she's not related, but my godmother's niece is Ola Ray. To me, it's very interesting.
All my life I've loved music. Dancing, singing and instruments were always my favorite things, besides writing and drawing. I have been dancing since I was five and along the way, I have learned new dances. The dances I love are Hip-Hop, Ballroom, belly dancing, ballet and tap. I also love to sing and write songs. I wrote my first song when I was ten and have written over 50 songs since then. I also play the piano and I used to play the cello. I grew up on old school rock and roll, jazz, R&B and West Coast Hip-Hop which is the first type of Hip-Hop I ever listened to. Music is and always will be a big part of my life.
At a young age, I taught myself to to do many things. How to walk, read, sing and play the piano. I had to mostly because my mother was not home most of the time because she worked eight or nine hours a day. My mom is one of the people I mostly look up to. She went to school for eight years and got two bachelor's and a master's degree. In school, I didn't do so well after I moved. They even put me in a special reading class in the second half of second grade. However, when I was in fifth-grade, it turned out that I could read at a ninth-grade level and in seventh-grade I was reading at a twelfth-grade level. I maintained 3.8 and up G.P.A's. I took an IQ test and found out that my IQ is 146. That's pretty good even though IQ's are pretty much one-dimensional to me. My test scores were higher than most of the people in my class, I even won third place in an all school essay contest in eighth-grade. High school was okay for me but I'm glad I'm done with it. I am in school taking core classes now but what I would really like to do is be a songwriter, lyricist and poet.
I basically like anything that has to do with art. I like to draw, paint, sculpt, make jewelry and sketch. I like sports like tennis, basketball, baseball, swimming, and kickball. I like martial arts also, especially Krav Maga. I love to cook and sew. I can sing and rap and I love to dance. I love cars and when I get the money, would someday like to build one from the ground up. Almost every year, my dad, my brother, me, and one of my friends go to the auto show. I play the piano and write song lyrics and poetry and I am a published poet. I am a writer, not only do I write song lyrics and poetry but I also write stories. I like to read. I like to watch T.V. and movies and I like to go out with my friends. I love to go shopping and to the movies. I can almost always find someway to entertain myself.
I really don't have a favorite movie but my favorite actors are Halle Berry and Will Smith. My favorite singers/rappers are Tupac, DMX, Eve, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, Nate Dogg, Eazy-E, Dr. Dre, Mack 10, Roger Troutman, Mariah Carey, Monica, Sade, Tamia, Celine Dion, Mary J. Blige, Aretha Franklin, Paula DeAnda, Marques Houston, Jon B., Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, Minnie Riperton, Luther Vandross, Alicia Keys, Tynisha Keli, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson. My favorite groups are TLC(the best rap/R&B female group of all time), SWV, Boyz II Men, The Temptations, The Bee Gees, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Jagged Edge and K-Ci and Jojo. My favorite music composers are Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Pachelbel and Beethoven. My favorite T.V. show of all time will always and forever be Girlfriends.
