My name is Tom, ErrantX or Errant; feel free to use whichever (even "you there" has been known to work). I am a Brit, and live in England where I work in computer security/forensics and dabble in programming and writing. I am a graduate in Electronic Engineering and currently completing an MsC in "Management of Software Projects" with the Open University
I joined Wikipedia in 2006 and worked on a lot of computer magazine articles (among other things) as well as contributing to Wikinews for a short spell. After a lengthy wikibreak I returned in mid-2010 to focus on Digital forensics topics, which are in dire need of improvement. Outside of that I flit about among various activities, usually biographies of living persons or other wiki-gnome tasks. In March 2011 I passed a successful request for adminship and was given the sysop bit. I entered a candidacy for the 2011 Foundation Board of Trustees Election, but ended up coming second to last... oops :)
My interest has expanded into the occasional Commons edit and work on a Wikibook about digital forensics.
I run a legitimate "bot" account Autoerrant which I use to run Huggle and as a non-admin account. In addition I maintain/develop CommonsNotificationBot (approved), I also have plans for a list maintenance bot
Currently Working On
- Operation Bodyguard (and associated articles)
- User:CommonsNotification & User:Listbot
- General things to keep an eye on
- Re-working digital forensics topics
I'm also, in tandem, working on Introduction to Digital Forensics on Wikibooks.
Notable Work
MINERVA (video game) (my first edit :))

The Barnstar of DiplomacyIntervention of the type you've been delivering is EXACTLY what I've been hoping for. I'm quite surprised that -- in a sea of intransigence -- you were able to gain even a modicum of respect for your efforts, though you've now seemed to have earned far more trust than that. I don't see much room for improvement in your approach; you are, in fact, doing an exemplary job. Definitely an issue to tuck under your belt, should you ever decide to go for an adminship. The Original BarnstarFor defense of civil discourse, balanced with a realistic and grounded view of Wikipedia's culture. For acknowledging your own flaws, and thereby showing that improvements aren't usually made by saints, but by fallible humans who desire to make fewer mistakes tomorrow than they made yesterday.
