I'm Wyatt, self-proclaimed geek, minus all that biting-the-heads-off-of-chickens bit. Yerp.
[edit] My thoughts on Wikipedia
- It's amazing!
- In an ideal world, I would be an inclusionist. However, poorly-written articles and those on unremarkable subjects (which often go hand-in-hand, I've found) need to go.
- It's great that anonymous users can edit most entries, but I feel that this often results in uncontrollable vandalism. I wish that anonymous edits were encouraged to create user accounts, but I understand that this runs counter to many goals of the project.
- I feel that policies against obvious trouble-makers need to be stronger.
[edit] My interests and editing habits
I usually edit these types of articles:
- Artists (Propagandhi, Secret Chiefs 3, Neal Stephenson, and so on) and their works
- Games (mostly role-playing games, especially Dungeons & Dragons) and related articles
- Random philosophy- and science-related articles (Invisible Pink Unicorn, Nemesis (star), Sudbury Basin, etc.)
- Lists (List of instrumental bands and List of text-based MMORPGs, for instance)
Within those articles, my edits are mostly reverting vandalism or edits which violate policy, and also removing references to non-notable or unverifiable people or groups. I'll be the first to admit that I don't do a lot of actual article-writing. I typically come around after the fact and hammer articles into shape (or nominate them for deletion if I don't see any hope).
