[edit] My foundation block
You said on the secretive Arbcom mailing list after I was wrongfully blocked by one of Jimbo's serfs: "Cary already unblocked after Giano promised not to re-post it." I don't recall telling him quite that, can I see some evidence of it please and his response to me. Giacomo Returned 17:44, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
[edit] DYK for Anna Eliot Ticknor
| On 16 July 2011, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Anna Eliot Ticknor, which you created or substantially expanded. The fact was ... that Bostonian Anna Eliot Ticknor is the "mother" of correspondence schools in the United States? You are welcome to check how many hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, quick check) and add it to DYKSTATS if it got over 5,000. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page. |

[edit] Interview at Wikimania 2011
Hi Sydney. I hope this finds you well. My name is Matthew Roth and I'm a Storyteller at the Wikimedia Foundation. We're chronicling the inspiring stories of the Wikipedia community, especially editors/admins and active contributors in the movement like you. I'll be traveling to Wikimania next month to collect stories for our 2011 Fundraiser. While there I'd love the chance to meet with you and hear your thoughts about Wikipedia. We’ll have a schedule of available times for you to sign up if you’re interested, but right now, I'd like to gauge your interest. Please let me know by emailing me at mroth@wikimedia.org or responding on my talk page. Thank you, Matthew (wmf) (talk) 18:59, 18 July 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. I think the best next step is to set up a brief phone call or skype session. We're all going to be pressed for time at Wikimania, so I'd love to get acquainted and discuss the process with you ahead of time, if you're available. The best next step would probably be to email me at mroth@wikimedia.org to set up a good time to chat. Thanks! Matthew (wmf) (talk) 17:46, 19 July 2011 (UTC)

[edit] My RfC
I never have closed this RfC I posted on myself in June 2007, in part because several of the issues involved have continued over several years. Before I consider possibly closing it (I feel I'm the one who should close it since it was a self-RfC), I was wondering if you would like to reconsider your endorsement of SlimVirgin's summary, and your own comments. If so, please strike through your endorsement and comments section. If you still stand by any or all of it, then please consider adding an additional statement, either at the bottom of your own comments section, or at the bottom of the front page of the RfC. Thank you. Cla68 (talk) 01:34, 12 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Mark Midei
Hello. Are you aware of a way (like a common category) to find old deletion discussions of articles that were deleted or proposed for deletion under wp:blp1e? Thanks. Jesanj (talk) 21:41, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- Hello, sorry but I have no idea how to find them if it is possible. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 22:18, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
- Me again. Sorry I might have become a bit annoying at this point. But at the AfD, you said before proposing deletion that you considered renaming "but decided that in this instance I did not think that ... would correct the BLP concerns in the article since the article is written as a biography". But couldn't one just easily remove some of the biographical details? Am I missing a key reason why renaming and reworking the article wouldn't work under BLP? Thanks again. Jesanj (talk) 18:24, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- No problem, I don't mind answering questions. :-) Unless the article is deleted, the history of the article would contain the other material for one thing. Since this is a BLP I would prefer not to keep the material that is not used in the history of the article. I suggest that you add material to the cardic stent article first, if the section of that article is too long to hold the all the material, then create a new article about the possible over use of stents as discussed in reliable sources. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 19:30, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Then here's another, thanks. Are you suggesting the article is a WP:BLP1E violation of a non-notable event? Jesanj (talk) 20:06, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- This idea is along the same lines. Jesanj (talk) 21:06, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
- Jesanj, I think that writing an article about a significant study or a significant concept such as "over utilization of cardiac stents" (if there is strong research in reliable sources showing that it is happening) is the way to go. The research article or the broader topic is of global interest. Our goal should be for our article to reflect the world view about the use of cardiac stents. So, rather than focusing a particular person such as Mark Midei, we meet the mission of Wikipedia when we write about topics that are of general interest to the largest number of people. Our notability policy helps us stay focused on the topics where we can find in depth information from a variety of reliable sources over the course of years, if not decades. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 15:57, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- I totally agree. Thanks. But my main point of curiosity remains, do you think an incident article such as the Maryland stent scandal would be non-notable? Jesanj (talk) 16:19, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I think that an article that focuses on one physician and one hospital would not be notable. (I've reviewed the source articles and know that other physicians and hospitals in Maryland are under scrutiny but this still seems like a local issue rather than something that is of world wide interest. Traditionally, encyclopedias have not covered local medical malpractice scandals, and Wikipedia has not. FloNight♥♥♥♥ 16:44, 25 August 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks. I found Wikipedia:Notability_(events)#Inclusion_criteria and I learned that an event is very likely notable if it has national impact. Jesanj (talk) 17:17, 25 August 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Image source problem with File:250px-CupcakesFrosted2 wb.jpg
Thank you for uploading File:250px-CupcakesFrosted2 wb.jpg.
This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.
While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.
If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 22:51, 13 November 2011 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly hi! 22:51, 13 November 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Martha Layne Collins
Hey, I'm only like a year late, but just wanted to let you know that Martha Layne Collins is presently up at FAC. I know I said I was going to try and get it ready to be TFA during Women's History Month last year, but obviously, that didn't happen. (In my defense, my first child was born in October last year, so my editing time got cut way down.) Anyway, with some luck, I can get it passed by early to mid-January, and we'll be all set for WHM in 2012. Maybe even International Women's Day on March 8. If you've got time and want to, give your comments on the review page. Thanks. Acdixon (talk · contribs) 16:10, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us!
