[edit] We Need to Talk About Kevin plot summary

Thanks for trying to write a plot summary for this film, but I'm afraid your English just isn't clear enough. I've restored the old one-sentence summary for now, until such time as either I've seen the film or someone who can write a good summary comes along.--TEHodson 03:05, 5 December 2011 (UTC)

Sorry if I've drawn a wrong conclusion, but you appear to be able to speak more than English, and I thought perhaps that was why the plot summary was not written very well. In any case, it wasn't written well enough to stand. I hope you understand.--TEHodson 03:09, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
If you found an error in the English, but cannot correct it yourself because you do not know what is meant you can ask me.--Patrick (talk) 07:36, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Please go to the article's talk page for details of how to proceed if you really want to try again. I've reverted to the single sentence and left plenty of information for you to read before you start over.--TEHodson 08:06, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I just edited The Kite Runner (film) plot summary since you're familiar with that page, so you can see how much more concise a summary can be. It's still too long, but it will do for now.--TEHodson 08:44, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
This looks like a totally unrelated matter.--Patrick (talk) 22:14, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
Flashbacks show Eva's memories. That is the reason of the past tense. Also this causes that the order in which plot elements have to be written down is not obvious.--Patrick (talk) 09:08, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I understand that, but there are lots of films that are shown in flashback, or which are non-linear. You aren't really addressing the problems. Please read up on how to write a plot summary.--TEHodson 20:48, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I see that you are rather new to Wikipedia. Removing info without providing an alternative is not acceptable in a case like this, where there are just some minor issues such as mentioning feelings of a character, or the order in which plot items are presented in the case of flashbacks. In a discussion about which of two versions is better you can refer to a guideline, come with a version that you think is better and we can see.--Patrick (talk) 22:14, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
I am not new to Wikipedia. I've worked on many, many articles, and have gotten a couple of them to GA status. There is a note to you from an administrator on the Kevin Talk page, with more suggestions on how to fix the plot summary so that it is acceptable. I've probably written dozens of them, and re-written even more. What you've written is simply not a Plot Summary. The issues are not "minor." If you are as experienced as you imply, you know very well that when there is a dispute, it has to be resolved on the Talk page before any more work is done on the article. I've asked you questions, which you have not answered, and given you concrete suggestions, which you've ignored. The biggest problem is that you don't seem to understand that there is a problem.--TEHodson 23:19, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
The Kite Runner plot summary was edited further by me to give you another example of how to write a plot summary. I chose that article because I could see from your Contributions that you have worked on the page and therefore would be familiar with it. Plot summaries are the issue here, therefore it is very much related to the discussion. This seems like further evidence that you do not understand what the problem is nor how to handle its resolution. I would have expected you to compare the old one with the new one, so as to learn from the example.--TEHodson 23:23, 5 December 2011 (UTC)
In The Kite Runner you reduced a plot that was too long, in We Need to Talk About Kevin you complained about other things.--Patrick (talk) 02:22, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Oh for god's sake. The point was to show you a proper plot summary. Any example would have helped you. I long ago lost patience with you. It's up to you to get better at things you want to do, or you can just keep getting your prose edited out. I've given you lots of suggestions for improvement. Now I'm done with you. --TEHodson 02:51, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

Ik heb me daar wel eens aangemeld als gebruiker maar ben helaas geen kenner van het West-Vlaams.--Patrick (talk) 17:27, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
Okay, toch bedankt hoor. Lotje (talk) 18:22, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] MSU Interview

Dear Patrick,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

  • Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
  • Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
  • All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
  • All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
  • The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your name HERE instead.

If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.

Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan Obar --Jaobar (talk) 07:26, 12 February 2012 (UTC)
