[edit] Re: Stanley Black article
Hey Rob - no I don't mind you expanding the Stanley Black article - that was good actually. I just made a start and feeling a bit lazy, pasted the Farnon Society article in (but I did acknowledge that). I question the "pioneer of jazz" statement in the opening para though. Also, why remove "Phase Four" from the Decca reference? Stanley Black put Phase Four on the map. Anyway, we both love Stanley Black - so that's good. I notice you have also written an article on Ronald Binge. My friend Wilfrid Jones (violinist) played with Ronny in the Mantovani Orchestra in the 1960's. He lives here in Canberra Australia now. I think he is about 85. He's had a distinguished career in many orchestras. I may add something about him to Wik soon. Cheers, Musicmaker 16:01, 4 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] British Light Music Composers
I note that you have removed the paragraphs, which I had inserted, describing the work of Philip Sowcroft. As this work describes many lesser known composers, I feel that those wishing information on Light Music should be informed of its existence. The link in External Link means little by its title alone, yet it is a definitive work. I did not think it could be placed in your Notable British Composers as this category is too limited for such a wide work. I therefore will re-insert it under its own heading.
Please let me know if there was any other reason for you to remove it.

[edit] More on Light Music
Thank you for your prompt reply. I do not agree with you, but will not press the matter. Have you read many of the "Garlands"? I would say that they are more about the light music composed than about the composers. I am in no way pushing the link, but feel it is the only source, at least that I have found, of the greatest amount of light music and of numerous (about 1000) composers. It is not practical for Wiki to include most of this information and believe that more than a simple link and one-sentence description is required. I think that some emphasis should be made that Light Music is so much greater than that written by the few composers so far listed in Wiki.

Hi Rob, when redirecting to Wikitionary from an otherwise empty article, such as postlude, you can use the template {{wi}} instead of a soft redirect. Don't forget to use {{subst:longcomment}} as well though. Kind regards, SpitfireTally-ho! 11:54, 9 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] John Gordon (author)
Thanks for the welcome and article tidy Rob. You've done the reverse of John Gordon: born in the fens then migrated to the North-East!
I am in fact John's nephew and thought it a crime he didn't have a mention on Wikipedia. Although he made his splash over 40 years ago it's a shame he's not more widely known about and feel his article deserves a better rating than Low-Importance. Much of what I know is 'from the horses mouth' and some of his achivements I had to omit as they are hard to corroborate (such as his books being on the syllabus in many schools, his first book being read on Radio 4 by Martin Jarvis and another being rated Children's book of the week in the Guardian).
I have a couple of questions:
- I wonder if Children's Literature rather than Novels would be a more appropriate WikiProject?
- I'm thinking of adding a fuller bibliography on a separate page, what other additions could I make to improve the article and give it a higher rating?
Thanks again for your help.

[edit] Fair use rationale for File:Eric Coates - Suite in Four Movements.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Eric Coates - Suite in Four Movements.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 03:26, 15 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit] DYK for Unto Us is Born a Son
Hello! Your submission of Unto Us is Born a Son at the Did You Know nominations page has been reviewed, and there is one minor issue that may need to be clarified. Please review the comment(s) underneath your nomination's entry and respond there as soon as possible. Thank you for contributing to Did You Know! --Peter I. Vardy (talk) 18:08, 27 November 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. I've now approved the suggestion. But having read the instructions (which I should have done before!) I think I misadvised you. The instructions say nominate it on the day of creation (as you originally did), and then add a request for it to appear on a specific day. Sorry about that; I've not done one of these myself. So I think it will have to go back to where it was, plus a request for an appearance on December 25th.
- This is not my favourite carol, but one which I particularly enjoyed as a choirboy, especially the verse about Herod (although that was usually sung just by the grown-ups).
- As you seem to have an interest in churches, do you ever get involved with the FLC process? There is a nomination here which is getting comments rather slowly. I cannot support it myself because I have a vested interest in it, but you might like to make a comment, if you so wish. Cheers,--Peter I. Vardy (talk) 11:08, 28 November 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Wisbech Grammar School
I've started the GA review of Wisbech Grammar School. It's a decent article, and there are only a few issues. I've listed them here: Talk:Wisbech Grammar School/GA1. It's mainly building the lead, and providing a bit more information on the school deciding to become fee-paying. The issue with the image can be resolved quickly by removing the image from the article. SilkTork *YES! 01:26, 30 November 2010 (UTC)
| This user helped promote the article Wisbech Grammar School to good article status. |
Well done. You should improve it further and see how far you can take it; work on other articles to bring them to GA status; review other GA nominations as you clearly have a clear grasp of the criteria and Wikiedia's policies; and give some thought to helping out in maintanence and assisting other editors having problems or disputes. You have a positive attitude, are knowledgable, calm, informed and intelligent, so should give some thought to becoming an admin one day. Regards SilkTork *YES! 12:01, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

I think you went way overboard. You blasted out about 20 different charted versions. Hello again, Rob. Do you remember this? That review, plus some pretty tough real-life issues at the time, caused me to take a wiki-break. Looking back at the article now, the reviewer carried out a review and immediately failed the article, as of course she is entitled to. I did feel it unfair at the time, as I was given no chance to address her concerns. I feel like submitting the article again after the holidays. Would you be interested in taking a look then? --Senra (Talk) 02:07, 16 December 2011 (UTC)
