[edit] Somalia Affair
Thanks for keeping your eye on Somalia Affair, after all the work I put into it, I was distressed to see the same pattern emerge as happened after I completed Operation Red Wing; of users with a "strong personal objection" to large swaths of material covered...and even the near-identical process of "just nominate all images in the article for deletion". I actually noticed you were the #2 contributor to the article a week ago when checking edit history, and quietly hoped you were still watching it simply for ego-stroking; turns out it's a good thing you do. Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 16:15, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Please also note that the same user has removed all images, and chunks of sourced text from Unified Task Force; Somalia-related articles might require some watchlisting (I've added UTF for now) Sherurcij (speaker for the dead) 16:40, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
- Spare me the lecture, okay? Those images were ripped directly from a CBC documentary on the Somalia Affair, as the supposedly "well-respected" uploader himself indicated. It was his own decision to title that image "Somalia breaking arms and legs of niggers" -- just like it was his own decision to caption one "Cpl. McKay speaks of the "niggers" around him in Somalia" and another "Pte. David Brocklebank describes his operation as "snatch niggers"." Awfully fond of the n-word for a so-called "respected long time user", isn't he? Perhaps this is difficult for you to understand, but I assure you, it won't be for the folks over at the administrator's noticeboard. Do not again add copyright violations to the article or tell me to respect people that don't know the meaning of it. Middayexpress (talk) 16:21, 24 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] File:Brennan Hall.JPG
Hey Simon, did you take this photo? If so, where did you take it from? It looks like the same angle as the apartment building I used to live in. That would be pretty bizarre if we lived in the same place. Adam Bishop (talk) 04:02, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
- Ah...yeah that's where I lived, at 57 Charles anyway. 55 Charles was supposed to be turned into condos but I don't know what came of that. Adam Bishop (talk) 04:23, 29 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] AfD nomination of Cymophobia
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Cymophobia. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cymophobia. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:12, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Kensington Mark
I would imagine most people searching Kensington Market were actually looking for the market in London - the area of Toronto shouldn't be the main article and should therefore be a disambiguous page. I am unable to move pages (which would include edit histories), so would appreciate it if yo ucould do this to correct the situation, instead of just reverting my changes.

[edit] Marshall Plan
Hi Simon, i was looking for sources for the article on the Marshall Plan and noticed that this book published in 2007 [1] has phrases with exactly the same wording to the Wikipedia article. I noticed you did some major edits to the article e.g. [2] in 2005. i don´t know if there´s anything we could/should do about this but thought i would let you know, Tom B (talk) 01:19, 3 September 2009 (UTC)
- yes was a bit concerned at first that we´d copied from him but then apparent it was the other way round. Also, i´ve just revisited the book and he does credit wikipedia several times so that´s okay; i´ll have to remember to check in future, i assumed the worse scenario as i didn´t think anyone would publish a book saying they copied wikipedia which he does say. he refers to several articles but not the one on Marshall plan, never mind. btw, the Marshall Plan article may currently have the most cleanup tags of any featured article. not that i assume you were going to do this but for interest: [3]. [edit] RFC: moving towards extreme exclusionism
Dear SimonP,
You may be interested, there is a RFC on this talk page: Talk:List_of_online_backup_services. Some form of extreme exclusionism appears to emerge, where people argue that items on lists i.e. SAL are only permitted if they have a proper wikipedia article, otherwise they are not deemed worthy for inclusion. Perhaps you'd like to comment. Many thanks!

[edit] Speedy deletion nomination of Central Technical School
A tag has been placed on Central Technical School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ttonyb (talk) 02:49, 22 September 2009 (UTC)
[edit] GA
Hey, just FYI I'm considering pushing Somalia Affair through for GA status and hopefully get enough improvements and help to hit FA -- but I was hoping you could take a brief look and give me your thoughts on the issue first. [edit] Reversing an AfD
Please do not restore articles that were legitimately deleted through AfD. The consensus in Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Comparison of Australian and New Zealand governments was to delete all, including Comparison of Canadian and United States governments, which had been nominated in the AfD for the entire time. By restoring you have flagrantly ignored community consensus. The correct procedure for appealing an AfD is WP:DRV, which you should know as an administrator. Your action was inappropriate, especially since you appear to have significantly edited the article, so I have moved it to your userspace pending a likely DRV. \ Backslash Forwardslash / (talk) 03:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Expo 67 photos deleted, help!
Hi Simon. It seems that some of the admins don't believe that public domain photos, with no restrictions, are public domain. Take a look at this response, as it was the one that caused the Expo 67 opening ceremonies picture to be deleted:
Comment - The file is not public domain as currently tagged. The file is sourced to this page. That is a Library and Archives Canada page. On this page they state "You do not manipulate and/or modify the material reproduced". This is essentially the same as the ND attribute of the Creative Commons Licenses. In order for the file to be public domain, it has to be able to be modified.--Rockfang (talk) 20:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC) What can we do to keep this from happening?--Abebenjoe (talk) 20:46, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks for mediating
I was getting a bit snappy, but this has carried over from another article that CreativeSoul was griping over (Semitic). I know that doesn't excuse my behavior, though. Ian.thomson (talk) 21:15, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
People "gripe" over sources that are unreliable. See Talk on the Semitic page. Ethnic Iranians, Armenians, and Iranian Kurds are NOT Semitic. --CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 18:39, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Magi Article Revert
I could use some input from you on this topic. The Magi refer to Medo-Persians and other Indo-European/Iranians within the Empire. The Greek Herodotus lived with the Persians. His writings all reflect his dealings with Iranian peoples, which include Scythians. I only asked that the ONE inflammatory phrase be removed, since it is highly misleading. I would welcome other people to take a look at this. It is very misleading to perpetuate the myth that a Magi was Ethiopian, Chinese, etc. It's just not true. Ethiopian priests were NOT Magi. Magi have a distinct culture tied to Persian heritage. Zoroastrians celebrate The Messiah, and the story is that the Magi looked to the stars (which they had knowledge of) and through faith, found Jesus Christ. Using words like "likely" make something "certain", which is wrong, especially when it's not based on fact or scholarly evidence.
Furthermore, this other poster seems to be following me from page to page, just reverting my edits. He seems to be trying to push Iranians into the semitic category (which ethnic Iranians are not) and making claims about Magi being Ethiopian, etc. Why anyone would believe that slaves were allowed to be Zoroastrian priests is beyond me. I don't know. I still propose the deletion of that one phrase. I had left the rest of the quote and sources intact. There was no reason for Ian.thomson (talk) to revert the edit. I will, however, leave this for discussion. If you can offer any other thoughts on this, that would be great. I just thought that there should be a way to rephrase that section or something. There are no other sources that show Herodotus writing about another group of people other than the Greeks. It's the author's sole supposition. Thank you for contributing. It's much appreciated.--CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 18:48, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Dbachmann for Ian.thomson (talk)'s senseless attacks on me. I left a response on Dbachmann's page and I'm waiting for more mediators to help out. I do NOT think references from debunked scientists should be used on Wikipedia, especially since they are not accepted by the scientific community. There is no basis for Ian.thomson (talk) reverting those edits and he is close to violating the rules. As you can see, I have not resorted to swearing or following the user all over Wikipedia, trolling and reverting edits out of spite. I actually invited other Wikipedia users into this discussion. I will contribute to discussion, but I will not abuse the 3RR rule. I thought I'd make that clear in case Ian.thomson (talk) goes back on your page and starts accusing me. I appreciate your fairness and calm attitude you bring to discussion. Now I know why, you're Canadian! Are you by chance French-Canadian?--CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 00:38, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
- You insist that I seem "to be trying to push Iranians into the semitic category (which ethnic Iranians are not) and making claims about Magi being Ethiopian, etc" despite my comments:
- "It isn't saying Iranians are totally Semitic and totally not Indo-European, it's saying that a number of Semitic and Indo-European groups show signs of being related" in the Semitic talk page, and:
- "At no point does it say that the Magi were from Africa" and "Noone at any point said that the Magi were an Ethiopian group" in the Magi talk page,
- I'm going to assume your selective reading is probably accidental, but it is something you need to work on. Ian.thomson (talk) 02:38, 13 December 2009 (UTC)
I mentioned the Ethiopians because of the quote, and your support of leaving the phrase "It is, therefore, quite likely that the sacerdotal caste of the Magi was distinct from the Median tribe of the same name." in the article. See, there is no way to change a quote as that is wrong. Also, the author is discussing Herodotus, who was writing about the Persians (Medo-Persians, Persians, Scythians) while living with them. So the author's supposition that the Magi could have been Ethiopian (not of the Persian Empire) is just outrageous. Africans were slaves in those times in the empire, and if they had their own priests, they weren't Magi. Magi does not refer to Africans. I read what you wrote, and I provided some good links from universities. Maybe you should read my other links yourself. I'm not sure how many more I should provide or mention which History Channel documentaries that discuss this topic at length (some which coincidentally air around the Christmas holiday) . Why would the sacerdotal caste of the Magi be different from Medo-Persians or within the Iranian peoples. Many living in Bactria were most likely Persian, as it was under the Persian Empire, but Ethiopia and Samaria are big stretches. The Magi would not include non Indo-European/Iranian peoples to be made priests. The racial and cultural unity was and is very much a part of Zoroastrian dogma. That's all I'm saying.
Moreover, this is for SimonP (talk): I didn't say to remove the cited source or even the whole quote. Only to consider removing the one phrase, because "likely" is a very strong word and implies factual information with no room for disagreement. That's biased. I think I backed up what I argued with the above sources from universities. And Zaehner can't be the only Oxford scholar. I don't think if something is a theory, that words like "definitely", "likely", "always", etc. should be used, even if they are quotes. I'm not removing anything, but I wanted to put this out there for others to read and to join the discussion. I will continue to look for more sources for backup. I thank you for your patience and guidance. --CreativeSoul7981 (talk) 05:38, 13 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy Deletion of Association ofJewish Refugees
Dear Mr. Pulsifer,
I added last Friday, 26th of February, an article about the Association of Jewish Refugees to Wikipedia, which was deleted by you immediately. As I understand it was deleted due to unambiguous copyright infringement. I am, however, working for the Association of Jewish Refugees and I used information from their webpage, www.ajr.org.uk, on their behalf.
Because the Association of Jewish Refugees writes the article itself, we do agree that the information from our website is used and there is no copyright infringement.
For this reason could you please so kind and undo the deletion of the article about the Association of Jewish Refugees or give us a possibility to prove that we are the AJR and that we do agree that the information about the AJR can be used in the Wikipedia article about the AJR.
Thank you very much for your co-operation.

You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

[edit] Ottawa Centre poll map
Hi Simon - I really like your neat poll-by-poll map (File:2004 NDP Vote Percentage By Poll.png) for Ottawa Centre and was thinking of doing up some similar maps for Montreal. I've found the pol-by-poll election results data on the Elections Canada web site, but can't find riding maps with poll divisions, or even poll descriptions. Can you tell me where you found that info for Ottawa Centre? Thanks in advance. Geoff NoNick (talk) 13:58, 7 April 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for File:Aaacnvpcover.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Aaacnvpcover.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Hi! I hope you are feeling fine! I would like to bring about your attention on my recent created article Betinternet. It is currently being tagged for speedy deletion. As I understand that you are an inclusionist by nature, please take your time to review this article and remove the speedy deletion tag. An admin who is a deletionist placed it there. Also this article have been created at least 3 times before but they were deleted due to various concerns. Now, I have polished this article, providing lots of references. If you disagree with its notability, then at least this article should be in WP:AfD for a more thorough discussion and to reach a consensus. Cheers! --Siva1979Talk to me 10:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)

This is a courtesy call, pointing out this ANI thread which discusses edits of yours. You are welcome to contribute to the discussion, but are not obligated to reply by any means.
I guess personally, I would like to know why you restored your articles without further discussion, even though the community 5 years ago decided they were not appropriate content for our project. Would you be OK with restoring the redirects, pending further discussion on your restoration proposal? -Andrew c [talk] 21:54, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- You have undone many redirects against consensus. This is clearly disruptive, as you are wasting many editor's time fixing your edits. Please do not repeat this, or you may be blocked from editing. If you wish to make an edit that conflicts with a previous community decision, please discuss it first. Black Kite (t) (c) 23:06, 25 June 2010 (UTC)
- While I think having religious text on Wikipedia is a nice, possibly a good idea, I do not think it should be done against consensus and in a sneaky and disruptive way. As an admin, you should know that and should know better. Please do not repeat this again. [edit] Matthew
I want to make something clear. I have nothing against religious texts of any kind, especially Matthew. Being a Lutheran, I am taught of the Christian text each and every Sunday, so don't think I am doing this out of any religious spite. I firmly believe if there were consensus for the chapters of the Bible, Torah and other books of religions, I would be right behind you fighting for it. But when it comes to ANI and we see ArbCom decisions and consensus, we have to go with it. Maybe in 4 years consensus has changed, I don't know, but that is something you will have to find out yourself. If there isn't consensus, perhaps, like I said on ANI, you should ask Jimbo or whoever is in charge of getting WMF projects/wikis started if a Wiki (WikiReligion would be a good name) about the religions of the world is necessary. It wouldn't come without great conflict being Religion is right up with Politics in the subjects you do not talk about....that and Fight Club. But just so you know, I would gladly welcome Matthew and all the books of the Bible to en.Wiki...as long as the Torah, Qu'ran and other religions texts quickly followed. - NeutralHomer • Talk • 00:46, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed deletion of Peggy Feltmate
The article Peggy Feltmate has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Does not appear to meet notability guidelines per Wikipedia:POLITICIAN.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. [edit] "Upper Beaches"
Hi, Simon. I've lived in and around this area for a little over twenty years and, candidly, I have never heard anyone but a real estate agent describe it this way. The phrase seems to have been coined as a way to make the stretch between Kingston Rd and the CN tracks seem more fashionable, rather like saying "breakfast nook" instead of admitting a kitchen was too small to eat in. Is the any evidence the term enjoys any currency outside of real estate ads? Virtually all the GHits returned on the phrase are ads for houses or apartments for sale or rent. -- Rrburke (talk) 01:21, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Kehrli new POV dispute
You were involved in an arbitration a couple years ago. 5 A nearly identical behavior and dispute has arisen. 6 I was wondering if you could pop in there and try to clearly define the scope and purpose of Wikipedia to Kehrli 7 as apparently the outcome of the last dispute and the resulting ban did not make such things clear. To summarize: He/she has chosen a different obscure unit-like scaling procedure and is trying to synthesize a well defined unit based on selective use of a few literature examples in combination with the widely accepted rules of metrology. Very elegant work that might be a good idea, but novel nonetheless, and thus not for Wikipedia. I am not a primary participant in the dispute. He/she has also been going over much of the material that he/she was banned from (for 1 year) and is persisting in the course of action that he/she was banned for now that the ban is expired. I have not been policing these actions and the pages have fallen into subtly novel/POV pages.--Nick Y. (talk) 20:06, 1 November 2010 (UTC)
- Simon: we all agree that Wikipedia needs to use "standard notation". We just do not agree what standard notation means.
- In my opinion "standard notation" means the consensus notation established by the Physicist IUPAP red book, the Chemists IUPAC green book, the International Standard Organization ISO 31, and the standards of the specialists in metrology (= the scientist that study measurment in general) which you find in the International vocabulary of metrology.
- In the opinion of Nick and Kermit "standard notation" is the jargon that is used by some people (not by all people) in their narrow field of science, mass spectrometry and that will not be understood by the wider public because it often contradicts the consensus notation established by the Physicist IUPAP red book, the Chemists IUPAC green book, the International Standard Organization ISO 31, and the standards of the specialists in metrology (= the scientist that study measurment in general) which you find in the International vocabulary of metrology.
- In short: They are pushing the jargon of a part of the mass spectrometrists, which are roughly 10'000 people worldwide. I am defending the terminology that is the international consensus, and also is used by some in their field (which I can prove).
-
-
- Kehrli is using his interpretation of the tertiary sources IUPAP red book/IUPAC green book/ISO 31 to justify rejecting all of the scientific literature on Kendrick mass (dozens of publications in the past decade). The new unit of mass that Kehrli has defined is original research and inconsistent with multiple verifiable sources. --Kkmurray (talk) 22:12, 2 November 2010 (UTC)

-
- I am not rejecting any scientific literature on Kendrick mass analysis. I am just saying that most of it is written in a sloppy jargon that is not understandable by the wider public because it is not in line with the terminology according to the scientific consensus and that in Wikipedia we should use the terminology of those papers that are actually in line with the consensus terminology. The article David Margoshes has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- WP:N -- Can't find reliable, secondary sources providing significant coverage of this putative Canadian poet.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. j⚛e deckertalk 06:33, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Streets
Don't forget my Burnview Crescent article. John Street was decided at an afd, and now you're going to undo that, add one or two facts, and leave it, instead of simply adding those facts to the list of roads in Toronto article? Your fight seems to be more for the principal of everything having its own article, and less about the merits of the individual subject and question. Are all of the road articles thus created about Toronto notable by default? - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 20:20, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Give me a Globe and a Star article specifically about Burnview Crescent and your point would be valid. Articles are evaluated based on the quality of the sources, and the sources fro John St are pretty good. - SimonP (talk) 20:24, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- There's plenty of sources on Sheppard Street as well. Two Mike Filey columns, an entry in Toronto Street Names, and lots of connection with Jesse Ketchum. Sheppard Street does not deserve and article. Niether does John Street. The facts can easily be added to its entry at List of roads in Toronto (don't worry about size, that article will be split as soon as the dust settles). - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 20:27, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Two columns, and a book entry? Sounds like it definitely meets GNG. I look forward to reading that article someday. - SimonP (talk) 20:30, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- It's not notable. Its a street with a name that can be traced. I don't even believe a single building fronts onto it today. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 20:32, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
-
- If, as you say, several a book and newspaper editors have decided that an article on Sheppard St is worth running in their publications, then that meets Wikipedia's inclusion standards. Just as we don't decide TRUTH, we also don't decide what the would considers notable. Now if the articles are not actually about the street, but rather about the person who the street is named after, that's a different story. But if there are three credible sources with articles on that street, it should definitely have a page. - SimonP (talk) 20:36, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- It's about the name of the street, just like most of the entries in Mike Filey columns that describe Toronto streets, and just like most of the entries in Toronto Street Names. These discuss the names, but make zero mention of whats on that street or whether the street itself is important (and Sheppard Street is NOT important; it's one of the most minor insignificant side street in the core). As such, they belong in an article about Toronto streets, and not in their own independent article. By your logic, we should split out all the individual pokemon articles. Just because something is notable does not mean that it MUST occupy its own page on the encyclopedia, especially when most of the information is inter-related. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 20:48, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Could you point out multiple articles in a major newspaper or academic journal on a Pokemon that's currently merged? If so I'd full support unmerging that one. From the sounds of things the articles you're talking about are not about Sheppard St at all, they are about the fellow it's named after. In that case I wouldn't consider them as justification for an article on the street. This is very different from the three sources on John, which are all distinctly about the street itself. - SimonP (talk) 20:57, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- No, but I'm certain you could find independently published books that detail every single Pokemon... Something analagous to how Henry Scadding described the entirety of Toronto in 1873 and published that. It is ok to merge topics into larger articles rather than spinning them off on their own. Two paragraphs is a stub, not an article. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 21:02, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- A source going over every single Pokemon or building is a directory, and Wikipedia specifically is not a directory so those aren't fully valid sources either. - SimonP (talk) 21:08, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Likewise, a directory and tourist guide of the shops along many Toronto streets, which happens to include a few sentences that are almost verbatim of the entry in Toronto Street Names, is not a valid source to indicate the notability of the street. If a building on a street is notable, it should have an article; not the street. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 21:14, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed that would be a poor source to assert notability. Are there any pages that have only this as a source? - SimonP (talk) 21:16, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- Between several of these types of sources, yes. Parliament Street and Victoria Park come to mind. Parliament street is notable because its named after the parliament buildings? No. The parliament buildings are notable, not the street. Anything that discusses where they were located must make reference to the street, because that is an identifiable location. Anything actually written about the street is more or less identical to the entry in Toronto Street Names, yet again. - ʄɭoʏɗiaɲ τ ¢ 21:22, 5 February 2011 (UTC)
- If that were the only source for Parliament I would agree, but there are also articles about other important sites along the street from the Distillery District to St. James Town. There is one on the former Parliament Streetcar. Combined these are more than enough to build an article around. - SimonP (talk) 21:39, 5 February 2011 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion nomination of Template:Clickmap
If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Template:Clickmap, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to have no meaningful content or history, and the text is unsalvageably incoherent. If the page you created was a test, please use the sandbox for any other experiments you would like to do. Feel free to leave a message on my talk page if you have any questions about this.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. [edit] Research into the user pages of Wikipedians: Invitation to participate
Greetings,
My name is John-Paul and I am a student with the University of Alberta specializing in Communications and Technology.
I would like to include your Wikipedia user page in a study I am doing about how people present themselves online. I am interested in whether people see themselves in different ways, online and offline. One of the things I am looking at is how contributors to Wikipedia present themselves to each other through their user pages. Would you consider letting me include your user page in my study?
With your consent, I will read and analyze your user page, and ask you five short questions about it that will take about ten to fifteen minutes to answer. I am looking at about twenty user pages belonging to twenty different people. I will be looking at all user pages together, looking for common threads in the way people introduce themselves to other Wikipedians.
I hope that my research will help answer questions about how people collaborate, work together, and share knowledge. If you are open to participating in this study, please reply to this message, on your User Talk page or on mine. I will provide you with a complete description of my research, which you can use to decide if you want to participate.
Thank-you,

I just wanted to check if you were the original owner/taker of the photo 10 Navy.jpg.
If so I think you've made a mistake with it. That building is actually 35 Mariner Terrace, not 5 Navy Wharf Court. They're right beside each other and look almost identical with 35 Mariner being taller. I know that's 35 Mariner as I live in the same complex and the top of 35 Mariner is different to 10 Navy. The very top of 35 Mariner has a curved aerofoil shape for the entire length of its roof as is seem in this photo, and the top of the elevator shafts starts much further north than on 10 Navy. [edit] File permission problem with File:Michael Chong.JPG
Thanks for uploading File:Michael Chong.JPG. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.
If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either
- make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
- Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en

[edit] Swansea, Ontario boundary map
Hi Simon:
Happy new year! I was checking on the map for Swansea, Ontario, as I am in the process of creating electoral district maps for the area going back to the 1914 redistributions both federally and provincially. In doing the research, I have become well acquainted with the former city limits of the old City of Toronto, which remained consistent in the west-end from at least 1909 until the 1998 amalgamation. The map that you have for Swansea is very good, but has a notable error: the eastern border never followed the western border of High Park, as one might naturally assume. The real border since at least 1909, started at the top of Bloor St. West, and just east of Wendingo Way, going in a straight-line down to Lake Ontario. This boundary put the western portion of High Park within the Village of Swansea until 1967. For verification, please see the City of Toronto's Annexation map, found at the City of Toronto archives. I was wondering, when you have the time, if you could correct the map and place the eastern border in its proper location? Great work otherwise, and I really like the series of maps you created for Toronto neighbourhoods.

[edit] MSU Interview
Dear SimonP,
My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the communityHERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.
So a few things about the interviews:
- Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
- Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
- All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
- All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
- The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.
Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. If interested, please send me an email at obar@msu.edu (to maintain anonymity) and I will add your name to my offline contact list. If you feel comfortable doing so, you can post your nameHERE instead.
If you have questions or concerns at any time, feel free to email me at obar@msu.edu. I will be more than happy to speak with you.
Thanks in advance for your help. We have a lot to learn from you.
Sincerely,
Jonathan Obar --Jaobar ([[User talk:Jaobar|talk — Preceding unsigned comment added by 35.9.34.167 (talk) 21:32, 22 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit] World Factoring Yearbook
I'm leaving this message as you're listed as a current participant of WikiProject Business. I was informed yesterday that the current World Factoring Yearbook (circa £150) is now free for download as an ebook. It's a matter of filling out this form. I'm not sure if you'll find this useful as a reliable source, but I thought I should let you know that it's freely available online. I apologise in advance if this doesn't interest you!
