MSU Interview

Dear WhisperToMe,

My name is Jonathan Obar user:Jaobar, I'm a professor in the College of Communication Arts and Sciences at Michigan State University and a Teaching Fellow with the Wikimedia Foundation's Education Program. This semester I've been running a little experiment at MSU, a class where we teach students about becoming Wikipedia administrators. Not a lot is known about your community, and our students (who are fascinated by wiki-culture by the way!) want to learn how you do what you do, and why you do it. A while back I proposed this idea (the class) to the community HERE, where it was met mainly with positive feedback. Anyhow, I'd like my students to speak with a few administrators to get a sense of admin experiences, training, motivations, likes, dislikes, etc. We were wondering if you'd be interested in speaking with one of our students.

So a few things about the interviews:

• Interviews will last between 15 and 30 minutes.
• Interviews can be conducted over skype (preferred), IRC or email. (You choose the form of communication based upon your comfort level, time, etc.)
• All interviews will be completely anonymous, meaning that you (real name and/or pseudonym) will never be identified in any of our materials, unless you give the interviewer permission to do so.
• All interviews will be completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to say yes to an interview, and can say no and stop or leave the interview at any time.
• The entire interview process is being overseen by MSU's institutional review board (ethics review). This means that all questions have been approved by the university and all students have been trained how to conduct interviews ethically and properly.

Bottom line is that we really need your help, and would really appreciate the opportunity to speak with you. AMRI Fire Tragedy

I have seen your very well written Comayagua prison fire. I am planning to start an article on a fire tragedy in a hospital in Kolkata, Inida - AMRI Hospital which claimed 90 human lives. Fire in a hospital and so many deaths - is one of the rarest incidents! See: Web Article Can you help me in the proposed article? Redirects Allison Ambrose and others

I just discovered the Category: Survivors of aviation accidents or incidents and learned most of the persons there are actually redirects and I saw you created the redirects. Were these ever actual articles on people or were they redirects all along? The reason I'm asking is me and another aviation editor the redirects should be deleted. I think the consensus is that if the passengers were not mentioned in the article, then their redirects should be deleted. So if they aren't mentioned in the article, I will have no objections to their deletion WhisperToMe (talk) 17:53, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

I brought your reply over here to keep this conversation running together. Actually I mentioned that on the end of my first post here.

Here's the thing, Allison Ambrose, is a very brief mention in the 2001 near mid-air Japan incident. Does that make her notable enough for a redirect? I don't think so, but probably all the redirects need to be nominated for deletion so editors can debate whether any should be saved.

BTW I am in favor of saving the category. Just get the redirects cleaned up, cleared out.- WhisperToMe (talk) 18:10, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

I think it's fine to nominate them all together. Since Ambrose is mentioned, it could be debatable. Her friend Meggan Wesche actually was interviewed about it, so I think her case is stronger. WhisperToMe (talk) 18:10, 21 February 2012 (UTC)

Well, you created the article, so I suppose you watched the anime or something? I watched the anime only once, as a kid, so I don't remember much, but the Japanese wikipedia is very complete. I hope this barnstar will not be deleted. I read that one needs to get permission before creating barnstar. But, on the other hand, when you are going to give someone barnstar, Wikipedia gives you option to create your own. So, I am little bit confused. I just noticed a spelling "correction" on History of Rome changing from UK spelling to American. As it turns out, you did start the article. Some of us have been deferring to UK English for European articles. We have dibs on most Western Hemisphere stuff (except British possessions, & Canada).
