Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are some pages you might like to see:

You are welcome to continue editing without logging in, but many editors recommend that you create an account. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits such as the ability to create articles. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without a username, your IP address (130.102.158.16) is used to identify you instead.

In any case, I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your comments on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your IP address (or username if you're logged in) and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question and then place {{helpme}} before the question on this page. Again, welcome! -- OBSIDIANSOUL 02:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Marine biology[edit]

Hello. Saw your post at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Marine life.

First of all, welcome to Wikipedia! Like the template I added above (which have convenient links for the most important policies and guidelines), I recommend you first get yourself a Wikipedia account. It makes it easier to keep track of your activity, enables you to create new articles, as well as other stuff.

As for editing, this guideline might help: WP:Your first article, as well as this WP:Be bold. There is no vetting mechanism in Wikipedia, but you do have to comply with all the relevant policies everyone else complies with. It's daunting at first, but it's really quite easy. The most important thing to remember is that as long as your intentions are good, you really don't have to worry about running afoul of the policies. Every mistake can be fixed, and you will learn from it.

The most important rules are basically to never ever use copyrighted text verbatim even if it is your own text (paraphrasing or rewording is acceptable), keep the tone neutral (cold, clean, objective), and to always include a reference to the source of your information (original research is unacceptable, also see WP:Citing sources).

That's basically it. Everything else is common sense. There are a lot of Wikiprojects dealing with the life sciences in Wikipedia. The most active I can recommend you is WP:WikiProject Tree of Life, the mother project for every organism-related article. There's also WP:WikiProject Fishes, WP:WikiProject Gastropods, Wikipedia:WikiProject Bivalves, WP:WikiProject Marine life, etc. I recommend creating an account, joining these projects, and reading through their guidelines. If you need help, don't hesitate to ask me, any of the members of these projects, or the talk pages of the respective projects.

For proposing changes, you can use a sandbox (you first need an account for that though), or you can simply post your proposals in Talk:Crown-of-thorns starfish (for instance), and get feedback from other editors.-- OBSIDIANSOUL 02:25, 28 February 2012 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Mundoo, Queensland has been reverted.
Your edit here to Mundoo, Queensland was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (http://www.facebook.com/pearcey.the.spark) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 10:50, 27 March 2012 (UTC)
