Triple Falls

Your recent edits of Triple Falls in Uvas Canyon County Park, California were improper. I've reverted the edits to the article and the Talk page to the state they were prior to you hijacking them and turning the article into Triple Falls (North Carolina). Please don't do this kind of thing again. Your action left numerous broken links, which you didn't bother cleaning up afterward. If you need help creating a new article, check at the Help Desk before proceeding. —QuicksilverT @ 13:24, 16 February 2007 (UTC)

I did not hijack that article. The standards set down by the [Waterfalls WikiProject] state, and I quote: "Due to the fact that there are countless waterfalls in the world with the same name, the following method of disambiguation is proposed: The most important waterfall can stay at the undisambiguated title, lesser known ones add a qualifier." Based on that standard, the constantly-flowing Triple Falls of NC far exceeds this standard when compared to Triple Falls of California, which by its own article's admission is "seasonal". I was simply going with the proposed standard. If you have a problem with it, I'd suggest you take it up with them. 5minutes 9:52 AM EST 2-16-07

waterfalls in North Carolina

All such waterfall articles are in Category:Waterfalls of North Carolina; which are part of the entire Category:Landforms structure for each country and US state. Waterfalls are Landforms so they are where they belong. The Natural history article basically indicates that the topic covers plants and animals and little else. Landforms of any kind are not included in Category:Natural history category structure. If they are found there, they get moved to their proper location based on the WP articles themselves. No special treatment for one waterfall. Hope this helps. Thanks Hmains 03:04, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Ted Kirkpatrick

Yes, it was a copyright violation since the text was a copy & paste job from Kirkpatrick's biography page with no evidence that the material was released under the GFDL license. So to respond to your message on Talk:Ted Kirkpatrick, there was excellent reason to delete the article. A deletion for a copyright violation of course does not mean that the aticle can not be recreated, so it's good that there is now a non copyvio version. Garion96 (talk) 14:36, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah no problem, I basically just reworded most of the info that was already there so it wouldn't be a copyright violation. I don't see why the deletionist couldn't have just done that instead of deleting as the article wasn't that long.--E tac 17:51, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Because the deletionist, in this case me, had to delete about 25 articles with copyright violations that weekend. I am not going to rewrite every article I have to delete because of copyright violation. When the copyvio tag is placed on an article, editors have two weeks to make a non-copyvio version before everything is deleted. No one did that in this case. There is another problem, Image:Tedinaction.jpg is not released under a free content license. Since it's an image of a living person it is deemed replaceable and will fail the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria. The image will likely soon be tagged and deleted. Is there a way you can find a free content image? Garion96 (talk) 11:34, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Wikipedia's standards have changed. See Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria #1. It can be deleted whether or not a free content replacement is there. Garion96 (talk) 12:39, 26 June 2007 (UTC)
Wel...we are a free content encyclopedia. One difference between the image you pointed out is that Buddy Rich is deceased, making it much harder to get a free content image. Fair use/non-free images of living persons will slowly but surely be deleted. With some exceptions of course, some famous hermits for instance.

I won't delete or tag the image for now. And even if someone tags it (small chance) you still have a week or so before it will be deleted. Garion96 (talk) 13:02, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

It appears that the picture Image:Tedinaction.jpg is originally from here: http://www.itickets.com/gallery/main.php?mid=4936 5minutes, did you get a permission from the iTickets user "Anomaly" to edit the picture and upload it to Wikipedia? If so, then it could be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons so that different Wikipedia sites (currently there are German and Finnish sites about the subject) could also use it for the Ted Kirkpatrick article. --Azure Shrieker 15:35, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

Triple falls edit

Regarding why did I placed the seemingly redundant edit on the page, you caught me be a little lazy. My goal was purely to get the coordinates to show on the right upper top of the page which I think is what eventually leads to this page showing within Google maps, placeopedia, etc (see Template:Coord). Curious that the coordinates in the waterfall infobox does not lead to the coordinates being placed at the upper right top of the page. I used the only method I knew, whereas with a bit of investigation, I should have used:

{{coord|35.198388888886|-82.61683333333|display=inline,title}}

Feel free to change to this code or other change. If you know that just having the coordinates in the infobox is adequate to get placement in Google Earth without the coordinates being placed at the top of the page, then feel free to revert my edit. Thanks for getting these pages going. I look forward to seeing the falls for myself. I have been working on the mountain pages in the same region.Badgettrg 04:14, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Another link to consider, if this seems appropriate, is Photos from Panaramio. Are there really subdivisions that near the falls?Badgettrg 04:22, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Waterfall infobox

The consensus seemed to be to use {{Infobox Waterfall}}. I tried to make it look a little more like {{Waterfall}} (i.e., variable image size parameter, use borders).

Is this OK? hike395 02:10, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

OK. I don't use a bot, so I haven't converted that many. I'll wait for a few more days before doing anything else. hike395 14:39, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

Wikimania in Atlanta!

Hi! I noticed your involvement on U.S. South-related articles, categories and WikiProjects, and I wanted to let you know about a bid we're formulating to get next year's Wikimania held in Atlanta! If you would like to help, be sure to sign your name to the "In Atlanta" section of the Southeast team portion of the bid if you're in town, or to the "Outside Atlanta" section if you still want to help but don't live in the city or the suburbs. If you would like to contribute more, please write on my talk page, the talk page of the bid, or join us at the #wikimania-atlanta IRC chat on freenode.org. Have a great day!

P.S. While this is a template for maximum efficiency, I would appreciate a note on my talk page so I know you got the message, and what you think. This is time-sensitive, so your urgent cooperation is appreciated. :) Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 22:34, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:Tedinaction.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Tedinaction.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Garion96 (talk) 18:02, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

I saw you uploaded a newer version of this image. To prevent deletion you should state on the image page what the source is (who made the picture), who holds the copyright and under what free content license the image is released. Garion96 (talk) 20:25, 23 October 2007 (UTC)
You wrote me a msg while I wrote you one. Cute. :) You can see on this page the different tags. Just tell me under what Creative Commons license specifically you release the image and I will change it. It does also needs source info though. Garion96 (talk) 20:28, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

BLP violation on John Edwards

I've reverted your recent addition to John Edwards as a WP:BLP violation. You've been around Wikipedia long enough to know that you can't use the National Enquirer as a source in an article about a living person. If this becomes an issue for Edwards and/or his campaign then a reliable source will pick it up and report on it. If you continue to add content that is violation of the BLP policy, you may find yourself blocked from editing Wikipedia for a short period. --Bobblehead (rants) 22:49, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

I was not stating the article as fact - I was simply stating that the Enquirer reported it. It is up to the user to decide if the article is true or not, I was simply stating the fact that it was reported. 5minutes (talk) 22:53, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
It doesn't matter that you were not stating that it was a fact. The National Enquirer is not and never will be a reliable source and can not, under any circumstances, be used in an article of a living person as a source. --Bobblehead (rants) 23:00, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Actually, according to Wikipedia Guidelines, "Material about living persons available solely in questionable sources or sources of dubious value should be handled with caution, and, if derogatory, should not be used at all in biographies of living people, either as sources or via external links". As I made no claim as to the article being true or false, the simple report of the report cannot be considered derogatory. Besides, I don't see "The National Enquirer" on any list of "not allowed" sources. Could you point me to a list of sources not considered "OK" so I know in the future? 5minutes (talk) 23:05, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
The National Enquirer is a tabloid and is therefore not a reliable source. If you don't believe me, go ahead and post that information again with NE as your source and see how long your block is. Seriously, mate, don't argue over this. BLP is not open to debate and no admin will even bat an eye if you get blocked over this. --Bobblehead (rants) 23:10, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
Again, no list of "don't use these sources". How about The Daily Mail? (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=503463&in_page_id=1811) How about FindIt News (http://news.finditt.com/NewsStory.aspx?id=30959&cat=5)? I can understand you guys being so cautious about sockpuppets, but come on. It wasn't a statement of fact. It was a statement that a tabloid had reported it. No conclusions. 5minutes (talk) 23:16, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
There is no list of "unreliable sources" because, quite frankly, the list would be incredibly long and completely unmanageable. WP:SOURCE, WP:RS, and WP:BLP have fairly definitive explanations as to what a reliable source is and tabloids and websites that claim they are news organizations, but don't actually have any credentials to back them up, do not qualify. Tabloids has a very spotty history of fact checking and as such are questionable sources and can not be used in an article about a living person, particularly a claim that someone had an affair and got the person pregnant. You're more than welcome to ask on the BLP talk page or WP:BLP/N if the National Enquirer can be used, but be prepared to be laughed off those pages. Wikipedia simply can not be the vehicle for which rumors are spread about living people as that would open the Foundation up to defamation lawsuits. --Bobblehead (rants) 00:59, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you have associated yourself with WikiProject North Carolina in one way or another and I wanted to say Hi. I have been doing a bit of work on the project and wanted to know if you were still interested. One of the major things that we need help with is article assessment. If you go to NC Article Grading and Ranking you will see that as of 12-25-2007 we have over 2,900 articles that are either unassessed and/or have not been tagged with importance. If you are interested in remaining a part of WikiProject North Carolina, please consider placing the userbox {{User WikiProject North Carolina}} if you have not already done so that others will know that you are a part of this Project as well as ensuring that you are listed on the WP North Carolina Participants. If you are no longer interested in participating in the project, please strike through your name on the WP North Carolina Participant list and/or remove the WikiProject NC Userbox! If you have any questions, please let me know!Rob110178 (talk) 22:46, 25 December 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I am going to remove your case, unfortunately Checkuser is not to be used in cases of vandalism. For now, I have blocked the account indefinitely (not something that we usually do, he is not sufficiently warned, but considering his last edits I doubt he'll repent). We'll see what happens next. -- lucasbfr talk 11:36, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Cape Lookout Lighthouse

Hello WikiProject North Carolina members! A few of us at the The Newsroom Team decided to get together and re-energize the project, through these newsletters. This newsletter is hopefully the first of many to come. We want this project to be active in creating and expanding articles related to our state. If you're a current or former resident of the state, we hope that you will help spread the knowledge of how much there is to learn about North Carolina.

  • A great way to expand new articles is by keeping track of the new articles list. Please add any new NC-related articles or older ones you come across that have not been tagged with the project banner. When you notice an article has been added to the list, read over it and check for citations, grammatical errors, and spelling. If you've written a NC-related article in the past 5 days, read the requirements for Did you know... and add your article to the DYK nomination list. It might be chosen for the Main Page!
  • If you see a new member added to the project list, a great idea would be to leave them a welcome message on their talk page. Show them we notice new members and that we want them to become active participants.
  • If you have any questions in regards to the project, feel free to contact someone from The Newsroom Team. Thanks for all of your hard work and happy editing!

100+ Waterfalls???

Hello, I saw your name on the list of participants for the wikiproject waterfalls. Currently I am working on an article here at wikipedia.org titled, "List of Waterfalls in Hamilton, Ontario" and we have at least 100 here in town where I'm from. I would like to know if there are any other cities or towns from around the world that you know of that have more than 100 waterfalls like we have here in Hamilton? Thanks!  Nhl4hamilton | Chit-Chat  19:21, 23 July 2008 (UTC)

  • OK Thanks. I didn't realize you had that many waterfalls there in your home State. The thing though that I and a group of us here in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada are trying to figure out, and so far no one has been able to give us a definite answer to is, What city from around the globe holds the title of "City with the most waterfalls." We feel that we here in Hamilton have a good shot at the title but we would like to get some sort of official word on this. Thanks for the quick response back.  Nhl4hamilton | Chit-Chat  18:49, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Full Armor of God Broadcast

  • Thank you Five! Dude I seriously did not know that I was breaking the rules by trying to recruite help from Project Christian Metal. I conceed and will withdraw from the discussion. I leave it in God's hands bro. If this ministry is serving the will of the Father, than He will be the wind in our sails. Thank you so much for your support. Check out this video that we did for our sister ministry Pass the Salt Ministries. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiz4tfjSuPc&feature=player_embedded I thought you would appreciate it. TY! Ivanhoe610fa (talk) 17:40, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Thank you for your edits on The Full Armor of God Broadcast article! They made the page much tighter! I think we did go a bit over board on the prior content. Anyway, if it is possible, would you mind if we ran all future changes through you from now on? By the way, Ted Kirkpatrick is going to be a guest on the next show, perhaps that would be a good reffernce to add. I see that you removed Host information & pic, the mottos and theme song info. I can understand that, especially at this vital stage. but I wondered if ther was a better way that this information, especially the theme song information could be listed in the future, without it sounding promotional? Nevertheless, TY! You are a good egg! If at all poosble could you please call The Full Armor of God Ministry? 740.205.6117 YOU ROCK!! You will always be ZORAK to me!! lol! Ivanhoe610fa (talk) 23:22, 20 May 2009 (UTC)
  • Page was deleted Thank you for contributing to the deletion discussion, but they deleted the page. I have requested that the deleting admin move the article to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_radio#Notable_Christian_radio_programs until such a time that more acceptable reliable sources can be added for this article to stand on its own. I have not asked for a deletion review, but am trying simply to discuss this matter with the closing admin on his talk page.Ivanhoe610fa (talk) 13:19, 22 May 2009 (UTC)

Waterfalls

Hey 5minutes, forgive me if I'm doing this or anything else on Wikipedia wrong. I'm not yet used to all the different formatting and rules in place here. I know you're responsible for a ton of North Carolina Waterfall info on Wikipedia so I thought I'd let you know if you're up to adding some more to Wikipedia. Adding & editing these articles is a lot of work, and I have just enough time to maintain the web site - not really enough to put it here though!

I have created a new web site on waterfalls in NC, http://www.northcarolinawaterfalls.info/. All the text and images on that site is under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0, so feel free to use any of it/copy it here. All the images are stored in Picasa Web Albums at 1024 x 768: http://picasaweb.google.com/gallery.wncoutdoors.info/ Look in the North Carolina Waterfalls album. Attribution is NorthCarolinaWaterfalls.info

I added Cedar Rock Falls: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cedar_Rock_Falls_(Grogan_Creek)

And I tried uploading an image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Cedar_rock_creek_falls.jpg

I believe I'm getting it right but feel free to tweak. Thanks! --Jordan Mitchell, wncoutdoors —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wncoutdoors (talkcontribs) 15:10, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Waterfall on West Prong Hickey Fork / notability

I've tagged Waterfall on West Prong Hickey Fork for deletion. I don't know much about waterfalls, but this one does not look very notable. You should add some references, perhaps to the site above, or other websites or books. That will show people that these waterfalls have "coverage" and are indeed notable. Once that is done, I think you are allowed to remove the "prod" tag. Otherwise, an admin will decide whether to delete the article or not. Danski14(talk) 15:58, 16 August 2009 (UTC)

Please help improve this article. Armorbearer777 (talk) 09:31, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
