Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. At least one of your recent edits, such as the edit you made to Data quality, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at the welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Your recent edits[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (Insert-signature.png or Button sig.png) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 13:27, 17 December 2013 (UTC)

Information icon Welcome to Wikipedia. At least one of your recent edits did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to Wikipedia, please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at the welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make some test edits, please use the sandbox for that. Please do not remove appropriate categories from articles without good explanation, especially if you do not appear to understand the categories themselves. For example, you recategorised Ikat as Category:Batik, when it is not a batik technique, and in the process, removed the appropriate Category:Textile arts category. While I appreciate that you are probably trying to help, please don't just remove or change categories without an explanation in the edit summary to show that you mean well and have considered your edits. I have already seen that a lot of the edits you are making are appropriate though, such as expanding the basic Textile Arts categories to the appropriate geographical area (ie,Textile arts of Africa, etc), so I will unreservedly apologise for the tone of my post above. However, please do be more careful when changing categories. Mabalu (talk) 14:11, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Image captions[edit]

Great work digging out images from Commons for articles that need them, but if you're using a script, you should sanity-check the captions before using them - they're often written informally, and sometimes just lifted from the CC-licenced Flickr page they were imported from. Something like "I quite like the yellow paint..." isn't appropriate for a Wikipedia article caption! --McGeddon (talk) 16:42, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

In fact, looking closer that article was flagged as needing a specific image (a "Plymouth Volare (F-Body)-based Road Runner"), but the car you added seems to be something else, and was added to the top of the article rather than in a relevant section. Can I check you're not a well-meaning bot that needs debugging, here? If you don't reply I'll assume you are and raise a flag somewhere, as this may be damaging articles if you're adding not-quite-correct images and removing image-requested flags. --McGeddon (talk) 16:55, 25 August 2014 (UTC)

Blocked[edit]

This address is currently blocked, as it appears to be running an unauthorized bot. Automated editing should be done by a logged in account, with bot approval. — xaosflux Talk 11:19, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

It could be semi-automated editing which does not need approval and I'm not sure it requires an account either. The edits appear to be constructive? –xenotalk 12:24, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
It can require approval, see Wikipedia:Bot policy. Edit summaries would be nice also. Dougweller (talk) 12:49, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Some of the image-related edits have included "errors an attentive human would not make" such as adding an uncropped group photo directly above a cropped version of the same image, and (as mentioned in the thread above) removing a reqphoto template for a specific model of car and adding an image of what seems to be a different model, to the very top of the article and with a chatty caption of "I quite like the yellow paint" taken verbatim from Commons.
The editor switched to categorising footballers in alphabetical order when I pointed the image problem out, so this looks like a script being run without much attention or comprehension, or a bot running with minimal supervision. --McGeddon (talk) 13:14, 26 August 2014 (UTC)
Thank you for this analysis. –xenotalk 01:13, 27 August 2014 (UTC)
Should this editor request an unblock that sounds reasonable, any attending administrator should feel free to unblock. — xaosflux Talk 15:12, 26 August 2014 (UTC)

Hi! Please preview your edits before submitting[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for your contributions and for adding an infobox to the Alfons Bach article. There were some problems with the infobox, which I have since fixed. If you scroll down here you can see a bunch of red error links. This is why the "Show preview" button is used - to make sure you don't have any errors or problems with your Wikipedia contributions before you save them. I hope you'll consider using it in the future :) Then you can fix your work! Thanks so much, Missvain (talk) 17:26, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "<>"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, BracketBot (talk) 09:59, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

Edit summaries[edit]

Hi there.

When editing an article on Wikipedia, there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" shown under the main edit box. It looks like this:

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead. Thank you.--220 of Borg 14:57, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Information icon Hello, I'm Orphan Wiki. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions —the one you made with this edit to FA Women's Premier League Southern Division— because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Orphan Wiki (talk) 12:12, 23 December 2014 (UTC)

Edit summary (Briefly describe your changes)

I noticed your recent edit to Talk:AVIC AW does not have an edit summary. Please be sure to provide a summary of every edit you make, even if you write only the briefest of summaries. The summaries are very helpful to people browsing an article's history.

Edit summary content is visible in:

Please use the edit summary to explain your reasoning for the edit, or a summary of what the edit changes. Thanks! GoddersUK (talk) 11:25, 29 December 2014 (UTC)

Infoboxes[edit]

I reverted 4 of your infoboxes, because they were broke. Do not restore them in their broken state, like you did with one of them! In general, I'd recommend you to learn a bit more about how to avoid breaking templates. Debresser (talk) 13:40, 8 February 2015 (UTC)

I see you fixed them. Well done! Debresser (talk) 19:05, 8 February 2015 (UTC)
You might like to try using the infobox {{Infobox UK legislation}}. Please also include the year of the Act in the title, eg Criminal Law Act 1925. Richard75 (talk) 19:20, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

You have been blocked from editing for a period of six months for once again running an unauthorized bot or other automated process, that is introducing errors into articles and not leaving edit summaries. Also, an apparent refusal to communicate with other users, which is an essential part of the collaborative process. Any request to be unblocked should address all of these concerns. Once the block has expired, you are welcome to make useful contributions. If you think there are good reasons why you should be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the following text below this notice: {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}. However, you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.  Beeblebrox (talk) 20:23, 16 February 2015 (UTC)

  • I'd like to make it clear that I think you really have something to offer and with a little more work your bot would prbably be approved, but you have to be willing to talk to other users and in order to run a bot you must have an account. These are not insurmountable problems, but they will remain if you refuse to communicate, and if you go back to running unauthorized automated processes after this block expires there will be no choice but to block you again for even longer. The choice is yours. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:35, 17 February 2015 (UTC)
