Awake characters[edit]

It doesn't matter if the show is done. The articles on the characters are all reasonably sourced, so they can stay. "But X doesn't have articles on characters!" is not a valid argument. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 01:43, 4 May 2013 (UTC)

Just because they are reasonably sourced does not mean we cannot make the editorial decision to merge them all. Not having a character list is not a valid argument for not creating one either. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 01:44, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
Why do we need to, though? The character articles are quite well fleshed out, and merging them together into one would serve no purpose. It'd just make a single article that's way, way, way too long. Leave them. And I'm not trying to stifle you or anything, but this seems like a WP:SNOW case against merging. Ten Pound Hammer(What did I screw up now?) 19:23, 4 May 2013 (UTC)
There have been many TV character articles merged to lists, with substantial referencing, and with much more epoch making importance than with this TV series, so I don't see how this would assuredly be snowed, considering how many people on Wikipedia would vote to delete all popular culture articles in the first place. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 05:35, 6 May 2013 (UTC)

File:TUhawkins.jpg & File:TUNewell.jpg & File:TUStephConstr.jpg and Ireland[edit]

I see no connection whatsoever between those pictures and the Ireland project. Maybe you meant to stick the notice somewhere else? Dmcq (talk) 07:41, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, sorry about that, that should be WPUSA -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 07:43, 8 May 2013 (UTC)

File:Mugshot of Josef Fritzl on the night of his arrest.jpg[edit]

Plase, where " the source is clearly stated on this file page" on it? I couldnt find that. "Work of Austrian police'? Where? The link, please? MachoCarioca (talk) 19:59, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

That is a source, that's just not a URL. Sources are not the same thing as URLs (otherwise all articles that use offline sources have no sources) Disputing the source is not having no source at all, therefore it's not a speedy situation, it's an FFD situation. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 03:39, 10 May 2013 (UTC)
If someone claims that an image comes from a book, then you verify that the source claim is correct by looking at the book yourself (so no URL is needed). If someone claims that the mugshot comes from the Austrian police, then I assume that you verify this by contacting the Austrian police and asking what mugshots they have of the person. I would say that the source presumably is sufficient. --Stefan2 (talk) 10:32, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
Sources need some kind of verification. That's none out there, no "book" is cited, no one knows from where the editor uploaded it. Only... "Austrian police". (??) So? MachoCarioca (talk) 07:30, 13 May 2013 (UTC)
We have an article on the Austrian Police, so it exists, so you can go and contact them to verify the photo. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 04:22, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

File:Ty Lund in 2008.jpg[edit]

You added {{holdon|This has an OTRS ticket. What does that say? If this has an OTRS ticket permission, then surely that should say something.}} Did you notice that the person who added the claim about no source and no licence is an OTRS member? I'd assume that this person already has checked what the ticket says. Also, it seems that the OTRS ticket was added by the uploader, who doesn't seem to be an OTRS member. See also User talk:Imparo#Image sources. --Stefan2 (talk) 10:36, 11 May 2013 (UTC)

B (talk · contribs) has no box saying OTRS member. And he didn't make a claim on the nomination saying the OTRS system does not contain such information either, so he could be just going by the missing template, assuming that since no one from OTRS has filled in a template that the information is missing, instead of perhaps falling through the cracks, because no one at OTRS has filled in the template. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 12:41, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
He has an OTRS top icon, though. --Stefan2 (talk) 13:48, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
I did not notice that. (considering the junk many users put up as topicons, I usually just gloss over those things... some users have like 50 GA-article icons there, or other nonsense) It'd be better if B had said in the nomination explicitly that the OTRS ticket was missing the information though. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 13:54, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
Hi 65.94.76.126. Messages sent to OTRS are confidential, so I'm not permitted to say what is in the ticket. But suffice it to say that if there had been a statement of license in that ticket, I would have added that statement of license to the image, rather than tagging the image. I have emailed the uploader in hopes of getting some clarification because he has provided us with some outstanding photos ... But the bottom line is they are probably all going away if we don't hear back with some information. If you take a look at his uploads, none of them give a source or an author. --B (talk) 15:08, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
I've removed my objection, though perhaps you could say it failed an OTRS review in the deletion rationale? -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 03:00, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Do the nld/nsd tags give you a place for a comment? If you look at his uploads (many of which have been moved to Commons), about the only one I see with an alleged source is File:Richard Marz at conference .jpg ... and I don't know how much I believe that source. It's a shot by someone in an audience, but sourced to the politician? Good grief, if your office is going to provide a photo, are you really going to provide a candid from a speech where they guy isn't even looking at the camera? I emailed the uploader and left a message five days ago and haven't heard back ... so as unfortunate as it is, there's really no way we can justify keeping these. --B (talk) 04:16, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
I don't think that nld/nsd allows you to specify:: a comment, but you could specify a reason in the edit summary or add a statement on the talk page. Do the OTRS tickets exist (and is it allowed to answer that question)? I'm a bit worried since the tickets were added to the file information pages by the original uploader who doesn't seem to be an OTRS member. Did he just pick a random ticket number? --Stefan2 (talk) 11:01, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
There is only one ticket. (If you notice, all of the images have the same link.). It is not for something unrelated (in other words it is not a random ticket ID - I would have simply struck or deleted it if it were). Take a look at File:David Hancock in 2008.jpg. This is one of his few uploads that actually gives a source and I am guessing/assuming that this media guide is the source for all of the photos. (I clicked on a bunch if them randomly and they were all from the "Progressive Conservative" party. I'm guessing that's a thing in Canada - in America it would be an oxymoron.) Anyway, there is just so much wrong with that description. The photos were released into the public domain, but they're mostly tagged as cc and GFDL. Permission was received from the subject of the photo, but that is completely irrelevant - what matters is permission from the copyright holder. Anyway, I have sent emails to all involved and am trying to resolve this favorably ... but I'm losing hope at this point.. --B (talk) 11:42, 12 May 2013 (UTC)
Please see Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2013_May_14#All_uploads_from_Imparo if interested. --B (talk) 15:41, 14 May 2013 (UTC)

Files for deletion (Visual arts)[edit]

Thanks for all these notifications to the project. Can I suggest it would be better just to start a single section, say "Image deletion discussions for May" & add them there as they occur? Slightly easier for you too I think. Cheers, Johnbod (talk) 13:31, 15 May 2013 (UTC)

Actually, that's more work. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 05:28, 16 May 2013 (UTC)
  • Also, why not register for an account? Then you wouldn't have to go through Articles for creation. You don't have to give any personal details. Johnbod (talk) 13:33, 15 May 2013 (UTC)
I don't particularly see a reason for one, except for the dodgy rejections from AfC by people who don't know the subjectmatter. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 05:30, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Champ. redirects to John George Champion, by common English grammar, "champ." using the fullstop is an abbreviation. "champ." is an abbreviation for champion, for which the disambiguation page champ accounts for. There is nothing wrong with that. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 12:56, 16 May 2013 (UTC)

Image tags[edit]

Hi, if you fix the issues covered by a deletion tag on an image (like you did here), you're allowed to remove the deletion tag. The tag doesn't need to be reviewed by an admin if the issues have been resolved; I trust your judgement. --Closedmouth (talk) 07:58, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

I'm not going to remove any deletion tag except PRODs, since they're much too likely to trip some bot, or editpatroller's autotagging and get vandalism warnings plastered all over my talk page. Besides, there's a specific user-warning template for people who remove speedy deletion tags. Even removing PRODs tends to end up getting a vandalism warning. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 09:47, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Talk:The X Factor (U.S.)[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Talk:The X Factor (U.S.). First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Talk:The X Factor (U.S. TV series). Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Talk:The X Factor (U.S. TV series) – you might like to discuss new information at [[Talk:Talk:The X Factor (U.S. TV series)|the article's talk page]].

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Musdan77 (talk) 18:53, 29 May 2013 (UTC)

Actually, it was not a duplicate of that talk page, it was a talk page for the redirect. It was a request for the redirect page. Someone processed the request. Since the talk page was deleted, I've no idea who it was. -- 65.94.76.126 (talk) 22:21, 29 May 2013 (UTC)
