75.../70..., RMs[edit]

Information icon Hello. There is currently a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. Thank you. Hijiri 88 (やや) 03:56, 7 September 2013 (UTC)

I've made some replies -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 09:11, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
70, we have to be neutral in articles and when posting reminders about RMs, AFDs and the like to third parties. We don't have to be neutral when informing other users (under official obligation) that they are the subject of an ANI thread. I made a fairly polite request to you to please be more careful when posting in RMs (i.e., read the discussion and arguments that have already been presented) -- this is not problematic. (I say "fairly polite", since in the past the admin corps have forgiven me for using pretty foul language when I was being less frustrated.) The only reason I'm not reverting your refactoring of my section title is that it's your talk page and your free to delete this section if you like. Hijiri 88 (やや) 09:18, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
That you'd consider reverting my own edits that did not change the message you've provided is highly disappointing. Section headers are not something sacrosanct, they're only descriptive. That you say you've had uncivil behaviour forgiven isn't really a good reason to not keep it clean. You could just say there's a conversation about someone at ANI, such as using =="There's a discusison about you at WP:ANI"== which will cause you less problems with civility if you post neutral statements for invitations to ANI. -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 09:25, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
No, I say that other users behaved so uncivilly and frustratingly that everyone else involved (and there were a lot of other users involved) agreed that I was justified in telling them to "shut the fu** up" and "shove their ridiculous lies right up their a**". In this case, I copied the ANI notification template, and then only place I could put my own words (explaining what exactly is going on) was in the header, which you completely changed based on the bizarre claim that it "wasn't neutral". This isn't the first time you've taken a policy about article content and applied it inappropriately to talk pages. I'm hoping it'll be the last, though. Hijiri 88 (やや) 09:49, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Which policy are you pointing out? User:RMCD bot generates links based on section headers, and needs unique section headers. There's a discussion on that at Template talk:RMtalk. If section headers are not unique, the main list at WP:RM will not link correctly, instead, landing at the first instance. -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 09:54, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
Umm... I never said I had a problem with you changing my section titles in the RMs. Just that in this case your changing my section title effectively deleted my comment. But I really don't mind that. The policies I'm talking about are WP:NOR (on the Jingu move you accused me of OR when I speculated on the talk page about the relevance of a particular source) and WP:NPOV (right here, you insisted that I post neutrally-worded comments on your user talk page). Both of these policies clearly are meant to apply to article content, but you appear to misinterpret them as equally applying to talk page comments. Hijiri 88 (やや) 10:19, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
I didn't quote NPOV when I changed the section header, I said it was not neutral. Usually the comment is in the body of the statement. The section header is just a description for the content of the body.
As for OR, OR applies to prescriptive article titles (if it doesn't, then there are a great many requested moves that need to be reviewed, of which many I have not participated in), but not descriptive article titles. That article has a prescriptive title, and you said is clearly just a misprint as it spells similar names with macrons right beside her name. That statement would be the basis of my opposition due to original research, which as I wrote it, explained it If other names use macrons and this does not, then this is more an indication that it doesn't use a macron for some particular reason.  ; -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 10:47, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
But the fact that you quoted such a specific part of my comment clearly shows you read it. Why didn't it occur to you that since all the other reliabl sources gave the macron, that there must be a specific reason for the translation of an obscure 18th century play to not, and that even if a misprint wasn't it, the source clearly was irrelevant to the article anyway? I never said we should mention anything about the play or misprints in the article. Hijiri 88 (やや) 11:08, 7 September 2013 (UTC)
You asked why I posted that opinion, which I've supplied. The requested move has been closed, in your favour, so you won on the merits of your arguments and those supplied by others who were also in favour of it. I have mentioned at the ANI discussion that closure is based on the merit of the arguments supplied and the balance of meritous arguments. If you address the concerns of my opinion, that makes your requested move more meritous, would it not? You supplied an accusatory statement about me 6 hours after I lodged my opinion, so I didn't feel like I wanted to respond to such a conversation, or get into a flame war. You used the same basis for the ANI. I've said it at ANI, we could just avoid each other. I was taught in school many decades ago, if you can't say something nice, just don't say anything at all. I, being an IP editor, surely would be blocked for a flame war, even if you are not, So, to avoid saying something instinctually reactive, I just avoided your conversation thread (such as my suggestion at ANI). One shouldn't expect people to respond in less than 48 hours. I frequently find that people don't respond to my comments on requested moves until the move ends up on the backlog list, if they respond at all, which they frequently don't. -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 08:57, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

NOTE: the ANI thread has been archived to Archive 811 -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 07:09, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

No, that link is correct. It's how it's currently formulated on Wikipedia -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 03:11, 10 September 2013 (UTC)
That's not how it should be formulated. Fixed. Huon (talk) 01:03, 11 September 2013 (UTC)

Thank you, and I'm sorry[edit]

Thanks for removing the short-sighted comment on the Gemmei RM, and I apologize for perhaps overreacting to it. I think by opening an ANI on you (even though I was careful to say I wanted you to be cautioned on being careful, rather than any sanctions) I have accidentally invited an unwelcome visitor to every other dispute I'm involved in, and am beginning to sorely regret it. This was a stupid thing for me to do, but at least now we can discuss mutual misunderstandings on talk pages. I therefore promise never to bring you to ANI again, if you promise to read and reply to my responses to you on RMs. I would, however, appreciate your weighing in when your "defender" pretends like I had been uncivil to you and other users. (I promise not to take you to ANI, but I'm seriously considering asking for an IBAN to get him off my back...) Hijiri 88 (やや) 10:27, 12 September 2013 (UTC)

You brought me to ANI less than a day after I posted the opinion, so that's quite quick, I think that you need to expect replies in a more stately response time (ie. not less than a day) which would solve some of the problems (ie. expecting replies in less than 48-hours is going to cause grief). I also don't have a watchlist (no IP users have watchlists), so I do not get notified about updates until I go through them again and check (usually the next couple of days).. As for the other person who's accusing IIO about closure of the ANI and saving people (I assume this is Joshua Sasori, as the admin stated that), I have no problems with user IIO (nor he with me, apparently, from his statement at the ANI), so I disagree with his statements about IIO. Even though I disagree with IIO's reasoning on some moves, and agree with his reasoning on other moves, we tend to have lengthy discussions at requested moves when we disagree. Thanks for the promise, ANI is an unpleasant business all around (I think that's why it used to have the redirect WP:DRAMA). I have generally conversed with people on talk pages when prompted. Though a ping for the requested move would work better, since then all participants in the requested move can see the discussion and the merits of the different viewpoints on the issue of the move. I may miss a reply if a discussion becomes lengthy and hard to track, so not replying does not mean I'm ntentionally doing so (unless the discussion has become unpleasant, whereupon, I may not reply, as I stated in the previous thread and at ANI, where I don't reply if I think I'm about to enter a flamewar) As well, if someone else replies in the comment thread before I get there, I may feel that their reply also adequately represents my position, and therefore not reply. -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 04:26, 13 September 2013 (UTC)
Hijiri88's phone here. Okay, I'll be sure to ping you or drop you a talk page message next time. But bear in mind that it wasn't less than a day, because your comment on Gemmei was not the only problem. You had been given like a week to reply on the Jingu RM. 182.249.12.125 (talk) 03:14, 14 September 2013 (UTC)
As I said earlier, I'd likely check within 48-hours, so pinging would be something for after that. As I said in the ANI, and in the previous section, and in my reply earlier I don't reply if I think I'm about to enter a flamewar. Your statement at Jingu is the basis of your statement at ANI; where I also stated that I prefer to avoid heated discussions and the blocks that result from them. -- 70.24.244.158 (talk) 06:55, 14 September 2013 (UTC)

Paris aire urbaine[edit]

Hello,

Would you support a move to 'Paris urban area'? That's what most references do (including the creators of the aire urbaine themselves), and I would support that as well. If you do agree, perhaps a word to that end would help the admin closing the discussion. Thanks. THEPROMENADER 14:26, 15 September 2013 (UTC)
