Accurizer[edit]

You suggested my screen name was not a good one since it was similar to my company's name. I thought I would change it. I went to my preferences area on Wikipedia but it doesn't appear I can change my screen name. Can I change it or do I have to start over and create a new account?

Accurizer[edit]

Your explanation of notability and advertising was quite helpful. I want to say that I was not picking on Breslin Realty, or RE/MAX, these were just examples for me to get a better understanding. As I said, I don't think Breslin Realty is a big offender. You are correct, I have seen worse examples. I will do as you suggest and make some contribution before creating my own article. Thanks for your help.

Accurizer[edit]

You sent me a message regarding no advertising. I was not trying to advertise but say who our company is as I found we were listed here. I'm also finding we have some employees typing in things that are not appropriate. Please advise.

Graphic change for {{Shipindex}}[edit]

I personally like the addition of the little schooner to {{shipindex}}, and don't foresee any controversy over it, but it might be good next time to make a proposal at WikiProject Ships to obtain a wider consensus on such a highly transcluded template. — Bellhalla (talk) 14:45, 30 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Winnipeg Singers[edit]

I declined your {{db-band}} on The Winnipeg Singers because the group has toured internationally and therefore passes WP:MUSIC. I also noted that the band has released at least two CDs, although I cannot tell whether the CDs were on a notable label. --Eastmain (talk) 23:32, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching the inconsistency. It wasn't Alex Main who was buried at Evergreen Cemetery, rather it was Slow Joe Doyle. Alex (talk) 23:49, 6 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Jay Samonie Notability[edit]

Accurizer,

Thanks for your help with my first article, Jay Samonie. You noted in my talk page [[5]] that you were concerned about Samonie's Notability. He's published 4 books, working on a 5th, and there's a film documentary, as well as a magazine article on him.

I assume that meets the criteria?

Thanks Much!

What about published works? He's published 5 books. My understanding is that if an individual has published works, that constitutes notability. In addition, there was a film documentary of his life. Also I've found a few references in blogs to him stating that he's a "warlock" lol... But I don't think blog posts are credible, are they? thx! —Preceding unsigned comment added by ProsperousOne (talkcontribs) 00:00, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Accurizer[edit]

You sent me a message about no advertising. This is the second time my article has been rejected. I am new to Wikipedia so I must not have a grasp on the style of writing. I don't mean to advertise but just say who and where we are. I am not sure how I am different then the other companies in my category. It seems somewhat of an unfair advantage for large well companies to have a reference. Of course they can find someone to cite them if they are big, famous and rich. How does a small new company get to do the same thing a big companies on Wikipedia. I have brand name just like RE/MAX. My first paragraph is much like RE/MAX. I have a link to our site just like RE/MAX. Yet my article is rejected. Can you help me?

Accurizer[edit]

Thanks for directing me to the guidelines on building my first article and helping understand the differences about true content and advertising. Yet I don't seem to have a grasp on it or this may not be true in all cases on Wikipedia. I seem to see many cases where companies do self promote. These companies are not noteable, popular or famous. At least I have never heard of them. For example there is a company called Breslin Realty. They have cited some little factoids about themselves and linked a couple internal links. Wow! I actually don't mind it and Wikipedia allowed. I would like to do something similar but I get the boot. So I still don't understand why? So whats the deal?

Thanks Cygnus777 (talk) 14:07, 10 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

William Milnor Roberts[edit]

The assertion that WMR was the most prominent civil engineer of his generation is probably accurate but I attempted to clean it up a bit on his biographical page. For the period he was operating he was everywhere in large civil engineering projects in the U.S. and was probably one of the first to reach the rarified air of "consulting" engineer. 73 JP3 Qy0f (talk) 06:35, 31 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am interested to learn why you believe that the additional text on this page is inconsistent with Wikipedia:Manual of Style (disambiguation pages). There were two Mankads who played test cricket for India, however, Vinoo Mankad achieved notability for a method of dismissal that is now widely known as a "mankad". Readers seeking further information on this cricketer are likely to arrive at the disambiguation page in their search; the particular reference to Vinoo will target the appropriate player. There are examples at the MoS page that show similar detail. Which guideline have I broken? Regards, WWGB (talk) 15:23, 2 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

User:Dawoodabro[edit]

Dawoodabro has made some confusing contributions. To put them in context, his or her contributions are either historical rulers of Sindh or politicians in present-day Pakistan. Rulers and elected politicians are generally notable. --Eastmain (talk) 10:31, 5 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up, I did see the AfD page on the new pages list, I hadn't spotted the recreation but as you noted in the AfD the article did assert notability even if it almost certainly has none. Von Trapp images[edit]

Well, I'm not an lawyer, but that image will have been made by a photographer in Austria rather than a US government employee, meaning that the US government has no right to dictate the licensing. That tag applies to works by certain government agencies. Furthermore, I can't see anything on the site discussing copyright. It's possible that you could use the images under a claim of fair use, but I am not seeing any reason that the images are free at the moment. Sorry. J Milburn (talk) 23:29, 19 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was just assuming they were taken in Austria. In any case, the US government tag applies only to pictures taken by federal government employees, so probably wouldn't apply to this. I don't personally know what license would apply to images taken by this particular agency- perhaps it would be worth asking at the media copyright questions page. Thanks. J Milburn (talk) 12:20, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your help in this important case. I think, I have done my best with the copyrights from the ressource page.

Splitting the Jubilee line page[edit]

Hey Accurizer, Ive got a problem and I dont know what quite to do. I want to nominate the Jubilee Line page for splitting into two pages as the history section is quite long and complex, and could be better integrated into an artical about tube services for that area of london in general. I don't know how to go about this though. Whats the protocol?

Many thanks! OutrageousBenedict (talk) 00:45, 5 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting the disruption by the IP. I've now taken it to AN/I to try and get this issue dealt with. Bidgee (talk) 01:10, 10 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for stepping in and warning the IP. Things have calmed down now. --Pwnage8 (talk) 13:26, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sometimes I get lazy, and for borderline cases I write 'rvv' even if it isn't completely obvious. The reason is because I'm more concerned with speed and protecting articles from disruption as much as possible. Of course, with rollback it's a lot easier and for blatant vandalism, I would have a faster option. I see that you have rollback. What was it like applying for rollback? I have thought about it, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of applying, and I feared there was a chance I'd be rejected. What do they look for? Do you think that I'd be granted rollback based on my contribs? --Pwnage8 (talk) 13:55, 18 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. Your input/analysis was much appreciated. I think I'll wait a couple weeks and in the meantime try to get my edits exactly right so that I'll have a better chance of being granted rollback. Have a good night. --Pwnage8 (talk) 01:57, 21 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Mistaken Vandalism warning[edit]

Hi, You recently left a message at my IP's user talk page (not to be confused with my user talk page) that someone at my IP 69.216.133.185 vandalized the Eleanor Roosevelt page. Although I admit I only looked at the last 500 edits (which still takes us back to March), I could find no record of anyone at my IP editing that page. While I thank you for your service to the Wikipedia, I'd just like to see where you think the vandalism was, because, if it was clear, and I can figure out who else that lives here did it, I will prevent them from further vandalizing the wikipedia. Trogdor077 01:15, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Edit: That's interesting. I just looked at the time-stamp on your message and it was from two years ago. Which means of course it isn't within the last 500 edits. Wonder why it just showed up as a new message now... at any rate, in that case, it was probably my little brother, who was 9 at the time. ; D Trogdor077 01:18, 13 November 2008 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trogdor077 (talkcontribs)
