Muslim conquest of Indian sub continent[edit]

Muslim conquest of Indian sub continent between 12th and 16th century edits[edit]

King Bhoja and defeat of the Ghaznavi army[edit]

Battle against Ghaznavis: Gujarat was a vessel state of Bhoja. In early 11th century Ghaznavi attacked Gujarat and Somnath after plundering East Afghanistan and modern day Pakistan. The King of Gujarat informed the whole matter to King Bhoja. King Bhoja then organized a huge army and marched against Ghaznavi. Ghaznavi himself fearing the powerful army of Bhoja retreated through the shortest route i.e. via the desert of Sindh to avoid a clash. But, his army was severely destroyed. Then, Bhoja marched against Ghazi Salar Masud, the nephew of Ghaznavi and the man in charge of the north India for Ghaznavi, and annihilated them in the Battle of Bahraich. Masud was killed and the whole army of Ghaznavi was permanently thrown away form India.

Rajputs and south India between 13th and 16th century[edit]

From the time of Tuglaqs in the early 14th century, Rajputs again started to consolidate their powers. The Mewar reestablished their supremacy under Maharana Hammir. Hammir defeated Muhammad bin Tughlaq with Bargujars as his main allies, and captured him. Tughlaq had to pay a huge ransom and relinquish all of Mewar's lands. After this the Delhi Sultanate did not attack Chittorgarh for a few hundred years.

The Rajputs re-established their dominance, and Rajput states were established as far east as Bengal and north into the Punjab. The Tomaras established themselves at Gwalior(central India), and the ruler Man Singh Tomar built the fortress which still stands there. Mewar emerged as the leading Rajput state, and Rana Kumbha expanded his kingdom at the expense of the sultanates of Malwa and Gujarat. Kapilendra Deva or Kapileshvara Deva was the emperor of Kalinga-Utkal (Orissa) and the founder of the Gajapati dynasty which annexed large swathes of territory in Telengana, Andhra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in the south to Madhya Pradhesh in central India and most of present day Bengal in the north. South India was, however, free from the hustle and bustle of the North under Vijayanagar Empire.

Rana Sanga of Mewar invaded many territories of the Lodis. Ibrahim Lodi fought Sanga repeatedly, only to be defeated each time, losing much of his land and Sanga's military influence came to extend within striking distance of Agra, the then the most important city of the North India.

The Wikipedia Library: New Account Coordinators Needed[edit]

Hi Books & Bytes recipients: The Wikipedia Library has been expanding rapidly and we need some help! We currently have 10 signups for free account access open and several more in the works... In order to help with those signups, distribute access codes, and manage accounts we'll need 2-3 more Account Coordinators.

It takes about an hour to get up and running and then only takes a couple hours per week, flexible depending upon your schedule and routine. If you're interested in helping out, please drop a note in the next week at my talk page or shoot me an email at: jorlowitz@gmail.com. DYK[edit]

Hello, I am Tito Dutta/Titodutta. last year I was working in DYK, mostly Swami Vivekananda-related articles, we has 50+ Vivekananda DYKs in 2013 (his 150th birth anniversary). Later the article was moved to Vivekananda, and for some other reasons, I stopped working in DYKs.
Just now, I have realized, I stopped just before 100 DYKs (97) User:Titodutta/DYK. If you want me to work on any DYK article, please inform me. --TitoDutta 08:47, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Hey thanks @Titodutta:, I'm working on biodiversity DYKs (mostly). I try to find awesome natural history facts & taxon not yet on Wikipedia & develop them to DYK standards. AshLin (talk) 11:39, 27 October 2014 (UTC)

Butterflies or lepidoptera sorted by importance[edit]

Do we have an importance based categorization of butterflies of india. It would serve as a good starting point for new editors as well as an excellent checkpoint on the progress of the project. Viren (talk) 01:41, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

No, since we do not have a regional butterfly wikiproject. WikiProject Lepidoptera is the mother project & it has the criteria page. AshLin (talk) 07:34, 29 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi All
Ashwin, I've been press(!)ganged here from the Wikimedia India Editors Forum as an outcome of the ongoing email discussions, and to pursue the roadmap. Lets discuss this at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India/Condensed proposed roadmap for Wikimedia work in India Juhimukherjee (talk) 05:23, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
@Juhimukherjee:, I find that you have virtually no edits & your only contribs show participation in a dispute board & on talk pages. Here you show familiarity with wikitext & the culture. I'm assuming good faith here but request you to please identify whether you had an account(s) previously & your user handle on that/those. AshLin (talk) 06:17, 9 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for your response, which I have deleted since the email has no relevance here. I prefer my talk page solely for issues which are meant for online editting purposes. I do not intend to talk here with anon sockpuppets on issues regarding offline matters. Please discuss such issues in the email thread there. AshLin (talk) 06:41, 9 November 2014 (UTC)

Euploea core: requesting a glance[edit]

Hi, I just rewrote Euploea core. Could you review it please. By the way whats your take on the gallery of views. I dont like it. I would prefer linking to wiki commons. Viren (talk) 06:08, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

  • @VirenVaz:, Will check it later. Too late tonight.
  • Please use cite web, cite book, cite journal templates rather than barebone urls, hyperlinks or written out references.
  • Use "convert" template.
  • The Mimicry & Life stages gallery are fine. Nuke the third.
  • You forgot to sign off (~~~~ ). AshLin (talk) 18:51, 11 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Ashwin. Signed off now. Sheesh so much to remember. Now I'm off so see these templates. You'll have to keep improving my stuff. Got a lot to catch up on and my editing is still rusty. Viren (talk) 06:08, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

Monapisser[edit]

I didn't know if you were going to fill out and SPI or not due to your suspicions of sock puppetry. The first article edit from them was Ahmed Hassan Imran where they had conveniently showed up to help during an edit war. -Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 16:08, 12 November 2014 (UTC)

@Serialjoepsycho:. My experience with MonaPisser is with respect to Fowler&fowler's user page only. I'm not familiar with the Ahmad Hassan Imran case. Go ahead & nominate. I'll support it. AshLin (talk) 17:01, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
@Serialjoepsycho:, during a discussion, User:MonaPisser has stated that my identity is known, here, in a manner which implies a threat. AshLin (talk) 17:53, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
I have explained all this on my talk page. I have specified I "AMHERE" pursuant to some emails to which we are both privy. You disclose your identity yourself, and openly too. The fact that I don't (preferred by Wikipedia policy) does not make me a sockpuppet WP:NPA. Lastly, 80% of the world professes to hate the colonial Brits, so stand in line MonaPisser (talk) 18:20, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
I'm not going to open an SPI, I've not seen enough to be convinced. I just noticed your suggestion that she may be a sock and I've seen that suggested before.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 18:54, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
Fair enough. Watch & wait is probably meritted at this stage. Lets hope the editor stops trolling. AshLin (talk) 19:01, 12 November 2014 (UTC)
I actually expected that to take longer.-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 12:04, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

You are looking at this objectively but Indian community has been fighting this sock-puppet meatfarm subjectively offline & online for over a year. Its so obvious, no Indian woman would use such a ridiculous handle & no Indian woman editor is that aggressive & that skilled in wikiwarfare. Not intending to be sexist, but it was really out of character. There is a negligible population of women editors in India & I'm pretty sure there's not been a single female troll. Wait awhile, some other troll from this meatfarm will arrive on station. AshLin (talk) 13:23, 14 November 2014 (UTC)

It's better to look at it objectively. That seems to be what linked MonaPisser to MehulWB. The check of MonaPisser seems to have only taken her down. Here's the results for MehulWB[1].-Serialjoepsycho- (talk) 02:41, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

Tag and Assess Drive coordinator[edit]

Hey there, I'm interested in volunteering but have no idea about the work involved. I'm assuming you're reluctant to continue being one because of time issues, which is currently not much of a problem for me. Sincerely, Ugog Nizdast (talk) 09:27, 24 November 2014 (UTC)

@Ugog Nizdast::The work is not trivial but not substantial either. In a nutshell :-

  • Create a bare-bones Tag & Assess page 2014 by reusing the 2012 page text & cutting down extra stuff.Yes check.svg Done
  • Daily status needs to be monitored & a screen capture of the WikiProject India Article table done each morning. I used to load it to webcite so that its always available.
  • Update user totals periodically (you can ask them to do it themselves or do it yourself).
  • When completed, shout with joy & award Barnstars to those over 250 assessed articles.

The original drive page, with its complexities is here. We are going about a much simpler affair and we dont intend to do anything more than bare essentials but it gives an idea of the work involved. AshLin (talk) 04:32, 25 November 2014 (UTC)

Let's continue this at the project talk page.

Difference between stub class and C class[edit]

What is the difference between stub and C? I've expanded Osmeterium does it qualify for a C class? Viren (talk) 04:47, 9 December 2014 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Version_1.0_Editorial_Team/Assessment. Imho its a Start, and the lede contains stuff needing to be moved to sections.AshLin (talk) 05:41, 9 December 2014 (UTC)
Checked out the assessment, very difficult to judge as the major contributor on the page. Who normally changes the assessment class of the articles?. I've also made a number of changes now on my sandbox. Can you possibly give it a once over User:VirenVaz/sandbox. Basically I need a guide for a few article, then perhaps I'll wing it on my own. Viren (talk) 18:32, 15 December 2014 (UTC)
Check in detail later! But yeah, its short to be "B". The B-class is self-awarded after going through a 5 point confirmation process that it meets the requirement. AshLin (talk) 02:53, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
I'm in no hurry. And climbing the assessment ladder is only important to me if it teaches me how to do the same for other articles. I picked Osmeterium cos its a topic I know very little about. Hence to read, understand, collate and merge all the information in a concise manner, and yet not bore the reader is my aim. So rip the doc apart and I'll rewrite please. Viren (talk) 04:55, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Asessment is not a big deal. Read the requirements carefully & internalise them. After that, make spot judgements. Whatever you assess is ok. Its subjective. AshLin (talk) 05:17, 16 December 2014 (UTC)

Dear AshLin,

Thank you for reverting the article to 2012/2013 version.I appeal to you and other admins do keep the good work up, and may the truth prevail. One small error is that the emblem is missing in the article which it ha to be on the top. Also the "State of India" tag is also missing.

The thanks are completely out of place. I'm not on your or his side. The transaction is NOT over yet. You two guys have caused unnecessary harm to this former FA both. You need to get the uncontroversial edits back in place and discuss the controversial text on Talk page, get a consensus & resolve this issue. December 2014 GOCE newsletter[edit]

Guild of Copy Editors December 2014 Newsletter
Writing Magnifying.PNG

Copyeditors progress.png

Drive: Thanks to everyone who participated in November's Backlog Elimination Drive. Of the 43 people who signed up for this drive, 26 copy edited at least one article. Final results, including barnstars awarded, are available here.

Progress report: The November Drive removed 26 requests from the Requests page and 509 articles from the {{copy edit}} backlog. We copy edited 83 articles tagged in the target months; July, August, and September 2013. Together with tag removals from articles unsuitable for copy editing, we eliminated July 2013 from the backlog and reduced August and September's tags to 61 and 70 respectively. As of 01:01, 1 December 2014 (UTC), the backlog stood at 1,974 articles, dipping below 2,000 for the first time in the Guild's history (see graph at right). Well done everyone!

Blitz: The December Blitz will run from December 14–20 and will focus on articles related to Religion, in recognition of this month's religious holidays in much of the English-speaking world. Awards will be given out to everyone who copy edits at least one of the target articles. Sign up here!

Election time again: The election of coordinators to serve from 1 January to 30 June 2015 is now underway. Candidates can nominate themselves or others from December 01, 00:01 (UTC), until December 15, 23:59. The voting period will run from December 16, 00:01 (UTC), until December 31, 23:59. You can read about coordinators' duties here. Please consider getting involved and remember to cast you vote—it's your Guild and it doesn't organize itself!
