License tagging for Image:WWI alt.PNG

Thanks for uploading Image:WWI alt.PNG. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Your Census map was wrong

Hispanic is not a racial category since 2000. The 1990-2000 census considered Hispanic to be a race with the subcategories white Hispanic and non-white Hispanic. Currently, for the 2000-2010 Census "Hispanic or Latino" and "not Hispanic or Latino" are labeled as "ethnicities" which are counted separate from race. In the 2000 Census, they were asked on a different quetion from race. Also, your map did not recognize the "American Indian and Alaskan Native" race which the 2000 US Census defines to include the indigenous peoples of North, South and Central America.--^DarkTea 18:30, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

You're right. However, for most purposes, people tend not to make the distinction between white Hispanics and non-white Hispanics -- and in fact, most Hispanics are mestizos, and I have often wondered why the Census does not add a Mestizo racial category -- so "Hispanic" is seen as a "race". Also, perhaps I was a little confusing about what I meant on the map. There are no solidly American Indian countries in existence whose inhabitants are automatically considered "American Indian". So, a person writing "Guatemalan", for example, won't automatically be considered "American Indian", even though somebody writing in "Haitian" will be considered "Black" and a "Russian" will be considered "White". Hence the addendum I added about ethnic groups within nations, such as Maya and Quechua. But a "Guatemalan" will automatically be considered "Hispanic". -- BGMan 20:00, 20 December 2006 (CST)

You might be new and not informed about the policies, so I'm taking this opportunity to inform you. Wikipedia is not about truth, it's about verifiability. A statement may be completely correct and still unsuitable for Wikipedia if it's not possible to source. Wikipedia is not the place where we publish our own ideas and speculations. Like every other encyclopedia, it's a place where we report on established findings. I would also like to point out that you have repeatedly removed valid tags without sourcing the tagged statements. Take this as a mild warning, such practices constitute vandalism and could lead to a block if you pursue in doing so. /f/ in Georgian?

Hi. Do you have a source for your addition to the Georgian language page where you said that ფ is pronounced as /f/ when it corresponds to an /f/ sound in loan words from Greek and other languages? It was (and is) my understanding that when foreign words containing /f/ are incorporated into Georgian, the sound is spelled as ფ, and the ფ is pronounced normally (as /pʰ/). For example, პროფესია (profession, occupation) is pronounced /p'rɔpʰɛsia/ (not /p'rɔfɛsia/). As far as I am aware, /f/ is not a separate phoneme in Georgian; rather, it occurs only as an alternative pronunciation of ვ before unvoiced consonants. Admittedly, I only know a very small amount of Georgian, so I am not in a position to put myself forth as any sort of authority on this. Richwales (talk · contribs) 02:31, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

My impression is that it's mainly confined to the educated classes, but spreading; the closest correspondence I can find is Finnish. That's why I put it in parentheses (like f in the Phonology section of the Finnish article), since it can't quite be considered native, or at least not yet.
