Rudy Buttignol-Add "governance" with refs. (or external links?) to career section[edit]

Hello Benzband, How are you?

I would like to add something to Rudy Buttignol's "Career" section about "governance". I thank you in advance for any help. I feel a bit overwhelmed about how to insert the following information. I have noticed some articles by Rudy Buttignol and a lecture on youtube related to governance and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). These are as follows:

1) an article by Rudy Buttignol related to "Public Policy" and "Governance" at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) in The Literary Review of Canada. Blood in the Water. Weak political support and dependence on advertising leave the national broadcaster at serious risk. http://reviewcanada.ca/magazine/2013/07/blood-in-the-water/

Below is Rudy Buttignol's Career Section and I've made changes in CAPS. I have added "AND GOVERNANCE" in caps so that you can spot it. I need to add the refs (1-4) above but need your help as I don't know how. Or would they better work as "External Links"?

Then I created a new sentence to follow "HE IS ALSO ACCREDITED" .... the first part in caps so that you can spot it.

Career[edit] Buttignol's career spans more than four decades. At the beginning of his career, he worked as an independent producer, director, writer and editor of documentary and children's programs, and later as a commissioning editor, television programmer, and broadcast executive.[6][7][8] He has been called "Canadian broadcasting and documentary guru"[9][10] and "friend of the auteur in Canada and abroad".[11] Buttignol is acknowledged for his roles developing Canadian cultural policy related to documentary film funding, broadcasting[12] AND GOVERNANCE (ADD REFS). HE IS ALSO ACCREDITED FOR advancing the creative documentary genre in Canada [13] and on the world stage.[14] Rudy Buttignol originated the idea behind the 2014 television series Emergency Room: Life and Death at VGH. He stressed the distinction between the genre of the series, which is a documentary, and that of reality-based entertainment.[15]

In summary, I need help with inserting either refs or external links for the above 4 pieces of information into Rudy Buttignol's "Career" section.

@Sofiabrampton: Are you sure those references support the statement that "Buttignol is acknowledged for his roles developing Canadian cultural policy related to governance"? Since they are primary sources, I'd think a simply descriptive approach (e.g. Rudy Buttignol has published criticisms of the governance of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) would probably be best. benzband (talk) 21:38, 19 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Benzband. Thanks for making such a perfect suggestion re the descriptive approach to Rudy Buttignol's criticism of CBC governance. Would his primary sources be "references" (as opposed to external links)? Many thanks. I'm nervous about putting in the sources. Would you help me please? They are listed above.

@Sofiabrampton: If they support a statement within the article then they should of course appear inlinelike this: [1] and thus be listed in the "references" section. Feel free to be bold and make the edit if you like! (You probably know how to insert references? (using "ref" tags: statement<ref>reference</ref>)

VisualEditor newsletter—April 2014[edit]

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor team has mostly worked on performance improvements, image settings, and preparation for a simplified citation template tool in its own menu.

  • In an oft-requested improvement, VisualEditor now displays red links (links to non-existent pages) in the proper color. Links to sister projects and external URLs are still the same blue as local links.
  • You can now open templates by double-clicking them or by selecting them and pressing Return. This also works for references, images, galleries, mathematical equations, and other "nodes".
  • VisualEditor has been disabled for pages that were created as translations of other pages using the Translate extension (common at Meta and MediaWiki.org). If a page has been marked for translation, you will see a warning if you try to edit it using VisualEditor.
  • When you try to edit protected pages with VisualEditor, the full protection notice and most recent log entry are displayed. Blocked users see the standard message for blocked users.
  • The developers fixed a bug that caused links on sub-pages to point to the wrong location.
  • The size-changing controls in the advanced settings section of the media or image dialog were simplified further. VisualEditor's media dialog supports more image display styles, like borderless images.
  • If there is not enough space on your screen to display all of the tabs (for instance, if your browser window is too narrow), the second edit tab will now fold into the drop-down menu (where the "Move" item is currently housed). On the English Wikipedia, this moves the "Edit beta" tab into the menu; on most projects, it moves the "Edit source" tab. This is only enabled in the default Vector skin, not for Monobook users. See this image for an example showing the "Edit source" and "View history" tabs after they moved into the drop-down menu.
  • After community requests, VisualEditor has been deployed as an opt-in feature at Meta and on the French Wikinews.
The drop-down menu is on the right, next to the search box.

Looking ahead: A new, locally controlled menu of citation templates will put citations immediately in front of users. You will soon be able to see the Table of Contents while editing. Support for upright image sizes (preferred for accessibility) is being developed. In-line language setting (dir="rtl") will be offered as a Beta Feature soon. Looking further out, the developers are also working on support for viewing and editing hidden HTML comments. It will be possible to upload images to Commons from inside VisualEditor.

It's a shame so many music articles are deleted before editors like Pjoef or me have the time to improve them in order to prove they are notable...
