Hi, you recently requested a third opinion regarding edit warring at Bavarian B VI, the third opinion noticeboard probably isn't the best place to deal with this issue - normally 3O is used for content disputes which have become stale - whereas this seems to be a clear case of an editor unilaterally removing comments, which is rarely acceptable except in cases of obvious vandalism. A better place to draw attention to the problem may be either the Edit Warring noticeboard or the incidents noticeboard for administrators or alternatively you could approach an active administrator and ask for assistance. Well it sounds like you are allowed to just revert these sorts of edits on sight, I didn't know that. It might still be worth trying to engage the IP in dialogue but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Your recent renaming of the Austrian railways e.g. North Railway to Northern Railway

Hello Bermicourt

I thought with translated names we try to get as close to the original as possible? I'm a native British English speaker like you, but for e.g. the Nordbahn, 'Nord' translates as 'North' rather than 'Northern' which would be 'nördlich'. I think you or someone else suggested the GWR as a justification, but is there any reason why the Austrian railways should follow the UK naming pattern rather than that of any other English speakers on EN wiki? I'm not sure this is justified. What do you think?

Concentration camp, euthanasia center

I have never in my life heard of a concentration camp referred to as a killing center, except in a descriptive way, but nothing like "Sachsenhausen euthanasia center" or anything like that. Euthanasia often described as "mercy killing" and for that reason, I strongly object to the Nazi killing centers as "euthanasia facilities". They were places of murder, not mercy killing. Translation of German articles

Hi. Based on your work at Hartheim Euthanasia Centre, I take it that you are able to read and translate German into English. Would you be willing to translate the articles of some of the Nazi and Schutzstaffel members? Kölnbrein Dam

I am a little puzzled with this one. On the German Wikipedia, it is included under the Malta power plants. I can see on Verbund's website the dam is the primary reservoir for at least two power stations (59 and 60). Those two are noted here as well (see list at bottom of page). I only include several power stations under one dam if it provides water to them, not just because they are all located in one geographic area. Anyway, this appears to be a neat hydraulic scheme and there are a lot of pictures and diagrams to use. The problem is that I cannot see much in English (including the diagrams) to find out why the German and Norwegian articles are bundling these together. Also, I cannot find a lot of information on the specific dam and project in English too. Is there any way you can help out with your German language proficiency? Thanks for the translation an explanation. Reading it and looking here, it makes much more sense. One question, is Mölltal the same as Mölltalbruke by any chance? This is an interesting scheme, typical for the Alps. I am going to work on the article in the coming few weeks. I think I will treat it like the Grande Dixence Dam where the main dam serves as the article for the whole scheme. Aah, I am learning a lot here. On that map in my post above, any "kraftwerk" or "-werk" is some sort of a power plant and "speicher" is storage. and I see how everything is intertwined; the Malta plants are the main stages and the Reisseck plants are built in between the stages. Oh, I see what happened. The book said it included the article "Wilderness area", which now redirects to the article your translated. Renaming the Nazi euthanasia centers

It would be nice if we could decide upon a standard name for all of these places, say, by September. By doing so, I would be able to create a nice navigational box template for all of the Action T4 related pages. I hope you won't go the route of ignorance in this. The names should relate to the original German and make sense in English. If the names were inconsistent in German, they may be inconsistent in English. That's what lists and "See also" sections are good for. And please don't let a US/UK issue be a determining factor, such as using the word "clinic" to create a totally new and unknown name just to avoid the center/centre issue. That's what redirects are for. You made a statement implying that "Anstalt" means "Institute". It is also used where in English, we use institution, establishment, sanitorium, school, mental home or institution, and sanitarium. Sticking to a word that perhaps appears first in a dictionary when it clearly does not convey the proper meaning in English is a problem commonly known by translators as "secretaries who translate with a dictionary". These well-meaning people with their limited knowledge of the source language rely too heavily on the dictionary, making absurd mistakes that someone with expertise would never make. Rosengarten

Hi! I suppose that I was surprised to see Rosengarten referred to as being a town, since you can drive through it and never be aware of being there! To my understanding of the word "town" in UK English, this usually (almost always) means an urban area, frequently with an identifiable town centre; Rosengarten satisfies neither of these criteria. It is certainly an administrative convenience to combine 10 villages into one unit, but does make it a town? IMHO "municipal district" (which could also be used for "Samtgemeinde") is more appropriate. In fact, the terminology used in similar articles is (at least for UK readers) misleading, since both Winsen/Luhe and Buchholz i.d.N. are referred to as being "cities" when they are, in UK parlance, certainly "towns"; and if Buchholz is a town, then it would be confusing to use the same designation for Rosengarten. I know that German doesn't distinguish between "city" and "town", but English does and this is English Wikipedia! Where would Rosengarten fit on the scale "Großstadt, Stadt, Kleinstadt, Samtgemeinde, Dorf? I did a quick comparison of the population densities of nearby towns (in head of population per sq. km.): Stade has 420, Buchholz 516 and Buxtehude 537. Even Seevetal (another 'municipal district (with 19 villages but no centre!) manages to have 402, while poor Rosengarten has a mere 207! In fact Stade, Buchholz and Buxtehude are (IMHO) genuine towns, each also incorprating a significant rural "hinterland" into their respective municipal area. Anyway, I'm not proposing a wholesale revision of articles describing German 'towns' in English Wikipedia - although at a quick glance it seems to be worth considering - so feel free to revert the change. I saw this in my watchlist and came here hoping to see something about a personal favourite of mine. While I am here, I assume you refered to Rosengarten, Baden-Württemberg. This was an oversight when the article was created - rectified now. The term town here refers to a German Stadt as long it is not a Großstadt when it is called a city.
