I hope I'm not adding this in the wrong place. That's my problem with Wikipedia - never quite sure if what I'm doing is right or wrong. Started doing Wikipedia only recently in order to cover the north west part of Co. Mayo, Ireland which was very under-represented till I started. Due to remoteness etc.. we now have a big problem with Royal Dutch Shell and the Corrib Gas Project. I feel that by putting on geographical articles for Wikipedia, that people will be able to find out what the area has to offer and I feel that this is part of the problem why Shell has targeted us as a soft touch. Some of my articles include: Erris, Kilcommon, Broadhaven Bay and I have enlarged several stubs. Maybe I need an adopter who could help me along a little? I'm not sure. Thanks. Comhar

[edit] Cheyenne traditional school
A prod template has been added to the article Cheyenne traditional school, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). Hi, I would like to be adopted by you. I am new to editing in Wiki, and my interests lie mainly in improving articles about India (Geography and Mythology). I am basically a software programmer so my knowledge might be useful here. Thanks --Ashmrcool (talk) 12:47, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Commenting
Thanks for your contributions. In the future, when commenting in discussions, there is a designated way to thread and format discussions which makes having them easier. One of these is signing posts. You can do that by typing ~~~~ at the end of your post. This automatically adds your signature, which can be customized under your preferences. Secondly, there is no need to add a new heading when replying to a post; threading it by indentation can be done by adding a colon before one's comment, increasing the number of colons by one each time a new comment is posted. That creates indentations in the comments which makes it easier to see whom someone is speaking to. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page; I'd be more than happy to assist you. seresin ( ¡? ) 05:43, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

That works for me. Thanks.JaMikePA (talk) 01:29, 25 October 2008 (UTC)
I like your new page! Anyway, I have really only traveled since I've been in the Army, so that's why I am not as well-traveled as you. My family went to many states on vacations annually. Anyway, you should probably change your emphatic entry about how you're not black. This can be easily perceived as you saying that you're greatful not to be black.JaMikePA (talk) 21:54, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Sorry
Sorry that someone use a racial epithet towards you, even though you're not black. I am sensitive to racism as us Army soldiers work with people of all backgrounds. JaMikePA (talk) 15:04, 12 November 2008 (UTC)
[edit] I challenge you to participate in a race
I noticed that both you and User:Highfields mentioned at the Geography WikiProject that you can name the capitals for every country of the world.
There's a task that needs to be done that is perfect for the two of you.
The pages at User:The Transhumanist/Country list each present the country's capital twice. But for most of the pages, these links is are temporary one that was generated by template. These links (two in each outline) need to be completed by adding the actual capital name.
The links that look like this:
* Capital of x: Capital of x (where "x" is the country's name)
need to be changed to this:
* Capital of x: capital name
The reason the capital name is a pipe is because the "Capital of x" links are all redirects, and will probably be more quickly updated if a capital's name ever changes.
So I propose a race. You start at the top of the list, and User:Highfields can work backwards starting at the bottom of the list (at the letter "Z"). Both links must be fixed on each page you edit.
When you meet somewhere in the middle, the race is over and whoever completed the most pages is the champion.
Contact Highfields to decide on a start time for the race.
May the better editor win.

- Just got this message, do you want to accept?, contact me when you're ready - Highfields (talk, contribs, review) 16:01, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
- In actually don't fully understand myself, I've left a message on Transhumanist's talk page regarding it, as for times, theres a lot of pages so it would take more than 1 day so if we each edited in our own time over, say, 2 days it would work out, hopefully, we can't really start until we know more though Highfields (talk, contribs, review) 16:02, 18 November 2008 (UTC) (By the way, I'm a school student too, funny hey!)
I completely love Obama and I don't hate Americans personally, but America isn't very popular around the world, you started the financial crisis and the war in Iraq, the UK is just one of them places not best pleased about being dragged into 'Vietnam 2' Highfields (talk, contribs, review) 16:05, 19 November 2008 (UTC)
It's auomatic but the code is complex, I can make one for you if you want Highfields (talk, contribs, review) 15:54, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Capital Naming Race
Highfields has started!
He's working from the beginning of the list.
You can take up the challenge and start at the end of the list, and try to catch up.
Or bow out.
If you bow out or don't begin within 24 hours, I'll take your place.
Remember, the capital name is to be placed after the pipe symbol in the 2 "Capital of x" links on each page.
Someone screwed up one of the sections (in good faith), so one of the links is missing on many of the pages. If a link is missing, do the one that's still there and don't worry about the other. Either I or someone else will repair those pages later.
The odd page might have been completed by someone else. If so, consider that a random bonus.
If you need examples, see the wikicode of the country outlines listed on Portal:Contents/Lists of basic topics#Geography and places.
Good luck.
Have fun.
On your mark, get set, go!
The Transhumanist 02:39, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- It's all in fun, so don't let it stress you out. The race is already begun with other participants. Don't worry about it, as there will be future races. So you'll be able to enter one of those when your homework isn't piled on so high. By the way, time zones don't matter, as start and finish times can be staggered if desired. They weren't staggered in this case, because I don't mind my opponent having a head start (I gave him a 24-hour head start). He's up to the Bs already, and I'm working from the Z's and have finished through the Y's. (though there weren't any Z's in the list, and only one Y, which means he's way ahead, as the list is split exactly in half.) But I'll catch up. :) G'day. The Transhumanist 01:01, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
-
- The actual capital names need to replace the "Captial of x" (where x is the country name) after the pipe symbol only. The main part of the link (the part before the pipe symbol) should stay "Capital of x". There should be 2 such links on each page, but someone screwed up a bunch of the pages. I'm in the process of fixing those, but don't worry about it - look for 2 links, but if there's only one, do it and move on. The Transhumanist 20:17, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Look at the wikicode of the country outlines (not the continents) below to see how it has been done on these:
- Antarctica:
- None
- Europe:
- Albania • Austria • France • Germany • Iceland • Ireland • Italy • Isle of Man • Russia • United Kingdom
Have fun.
The Transhumanist 20:20, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
By the way, the winner of the race will get an award. But only after they are all done! :) The Transhumanist 20:26, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- O.K., I need to know which one to start on and I am curious which one Highfields is on. Also I saw the award that Penubag made and it is pretty cool. Can you make one for 2nd place that says 2nd or loser for whoever loses. Thank You, Happy Holidays, Madadude (talk) 23:00, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
-
- There's never a trophy for second place in a 2-person race. ;) But you can join other races. We'll have more races. Penubag isn't quite done with the award, but he's a great graphics guy, isn't he? You're doing the second half of User:The Transhumanist/Country list. Start at the end of the list, and make your way backwards. That way, you'll both be heading toward the middle. If you get to the middle before your opponent, keep going. This whole list needs to be done! Only when the whole list is done will I give out an award.
-
- Hint: you can go a lot faster if you use Firefox and WP:LINKY. The Transhumanist 23:08, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
Some pointers for the future:
- When in doubt, be bold (at least on Wikipedia).
- When you want to race, don't wait at the start line when your opponent is already running. go, Go, GO!
The Transhumanist 23:36, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
I just checked, and he's 3/4th done. I think you should wait until the next race and let me do this one. ;) The Transhumanist 23:36, 5 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I got your message
Three things you can do is learn how to use Firefox, Linky, and WikEd.
Firefox is a browser like Internet Explorer, but it is much more powerful for editing Wikipedia.
Linky is an add-on to Firefox that lets you turn links on a page into windows with the pages from the links loaded in them. Very very very very very powerful. Linky speeds up work on sets of pages very much.
WikEd is a replacement for Wikipedia's built-in editor. It has powerful search/replace features. But WikEd only works with Firefox.
Now repeat after me:
Download it, load it, and then load the other 2 tools I just told you about, and you'll be ready to take on just about anything.

[edit] Latest Geography WikiProject update
I contact the members of WikiProject Geography and the guys working on the country outlines from time to time. Here's the latest update, which I've only sent to one person so far (besides you).
[edit] Country outlines
We are getting closer to completion.
Dinobot has joined the team, and is filling in some of the blanks on these pages (population so far, and soon will move on to size, and other entries where feasible). This is and will continue to save us many man hours of manual editing. Woohoo!
I'm about to host races between pairs of opponents. The first race sort of fell flat - the partipants had no imagination and let their time zone difference get them down. The next race will take time zones into account. Details, details. Jeesh. :) By the way, Penubag is working on an award for the winners of these. Should be good.
User:Zlerman has joined the team, and is working on Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
The project keeps growing, as it turns up problems in country coverage, such as chaotic article naming, screwed up data formatting, etc. Current branching out includes creating redirects for country adjectivals, changing country cuisine titles to the adjectival form, and fixing the formatting of CIA demographic data.
The Transhumanist 00:17, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Geography...
- I meant what articles can I help out with. Please I would love to help Wikipedia by editing on Articles/Portals/Wikipedia pages. Also, I used to have Firefox but it didn't work good on my computer so I got rid of it. Also I don't use Internet Explorer, I use Safari, the Apple Web Browser, and it is really really really fast. Probably not as fast as Firefox but pages load up 10 times faster than Internet Explorer. You might be thinking that how can I have Safari if I have a Windows Vista computer, Apple came out with a Safari that works on Windows XP and Vista. Also as I said before, Is there a bultiin for Wikiproject Geography or is there any articles that I can help, I am bored and want to do more things than just editing my userpage on Wikipedia. Madadude (talk) 00:12, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
-
- Well, there are lots and lots of pages that need little changes. To do that, you really need the programs I told you about. You should look into why Firefox didn't work right on your computer. There's usually a way to fix the problem.
-
- The "Demographics of x" articles need a lot of work. (replace x with any country name) Demographics is information about the population and population distribution of a group of people (like the people living in a country, or from a country, etc.). You know, things like how many people in a country belong to each religion. Or how much money people make there. Or a comparison of the size of the ethnic groups. Pick a country you like, and start looking up stuff on Google about its demographics. You might want to start with a small country like an island, and then move on to bigger countries.

The "Demographics of x" articles, that is, the country demographic articles, are located at:
They're also listed at
...it's kind of funny that you missed them there. :)
Of course, Wikipedia has demographics articles on more than countries (but mostly countries). See:

[edit] Your question
Hello, pull up a chair, I'll give you a short mini lesson :). Okay, the "grey and white background" is called transparency which means that you can see through the image, either in part or whole. It is ideal to usually have transparent backgrounds on everything except photographs generally aesthetically and for better storage. I'll go ahead and explain what transparency is in case you didn't know. I'll demonstrate an example of transparency here (with the beautiful Mustang you created):
Do you notice the big ugly white box around your mustang? This is because it is white, not transparent.
![]()
![]()
See how the above images looks grainy and how the color has blotches? Here's another example:
![]()
![]()
![]()
see the uneven colors? But if they were saved with .PNG it would have a clean crisp image even when sized down, for example:
![]()
When I edited your car, I converted the jpg to a png so it is clean and crisp. Wow, look at that, it almost looks like a real car!
This sums it up.
I hope this helps! Ask me if you have any more questions. -- penubag (talk) 04:46, 9 December 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! I'm really glad you like my images! Now to answer your questions:
The reason why the image was blurred was because I shrank it down to a small size and the lines blended together. Also because it's png, it does it losslessly meaning it doesn't loose any data in the process. I was able to find your car with Special:Contributions, the wiki way of spying on people! If you upload an image Wikipedia, as you did here at en.wikipedia.org, your image can only be used on the english wikipedia, but if you uploaded it to Commons, the image could be used on any Wikimedia Foundation page. The only downside is you cannot upload copyrighted images to Commons. Yes, I use photoshop for almost all my work. It definatly supports transparency (in fact, that's what I used to make your car have a transparent background.
-
Your welcome! Anything relating to transparency on an image editor is referred to as Opacity. If you want a transparent background use the eraser tool (for GIMP and Photoshop) and set the Opacity to 100% and erase the background. If you want it to automatically erase the entire background, use the Magic Eraser (on photoshop) and I think it might be called Intelligent eraser or something else on GIMP and click on the white background, that'll do it. Wikibooks has a GIMP guide if you need further help. See: Wikibooks:The_GIMP/Contents if you read the whole thing from start to finish, you'll be a pro! -- penubag (talk) 05:59, 9 December 2008 (UTC)

[edit] demographics pages
Note: Many of the pages have statistics from the CIA World Factbook, but not all. We need to format those statistics - we've done about half - but the lack of a standard heading makes it hard to access just these pages with AWB. Once the standard heading and section lead are in place on the pages with the CIA stats, we'll be able to use them (the heading or lead) as a "skip key" with which to target AWB upon these pages. Once the standard pieces are in place, we'll be able to use AWB to fix the formatting of the statistics via search/replace operations and regex on those pages where they haven't been fixed yet). See the set at User:The Transhumanist/Country demographics articles.
top of the section bottom of the lead section, setting it to right alignment and its size to 300px.
Please note that, beyond Demographics of Rwanda, I have already worked on Demographics of Tajikistan, Demographics of Turkmenistan, Demographics of Uzbekistan, and Demographics of Ukraine, taking a shot at standardization in line with your general guidelines. Another point is the location of the population chart: the chart is not based on CIA World Factbook data, and there is no compelling reason to place it at the top of the CIA statistics section. If possible, it should be placed at the top of the article, within the lead, so that it fills some of the blank space created by the table of contents and is the first thing that readers see.
-
Zlerman is right - the chart should go at the end of the lead (with right-alignment) so it sits next to the TOC. I've changed the instructions above, accordingly. The Transhumanist 21:34, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Outline of Knowledge / Geography WikiProject Collaboration: Country outlines
The creation of disambiguation pages for country adjectivals ("German", "French", "Taiwanese", etc.) We're about half done with these. Wikifying the CIA World Factbook statistics on the "demographics of" country pages. We've been renaming those sections to provide a key string that AWB can use for targetting (for skipping and filtering). Once that's done, we'll be able to break the clean-up down into simple AWB search/replace tasks, because we'll be able to target just those pages that include the CIA stuff. We've also been renaming the "Cuisine of" articles to their adjectival forms ("Chinese cuisine", "Italian cuisine", etc.), for consistency and because the adjective-based terms are generally the most commonly-used names for those cuisine types.

As a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 23:38, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit] File source and copyright licensing problem with File:Couch.jpg
Thanks for uploading File:Couch.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, we also need to know the terms of the license that the copyright holder has published the file under, usually done by adding a licensing tag. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the GFDL-self tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as article name or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged files may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the file will be deleted 48 hours after 01:44, 10 July 2010 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Eeekster (talk) 01:44, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
[edit] Edit warring on couch
Please refrain from undoing other people's edits repeatedly. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions in a content dispute within a 24 hour period. Additionally, users who perform a large number of reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring, even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. Rather than reverting, discuss disputed changes on the talk page. The revision you want is not going to be implemented by edit warring. Thank you. --75.168.95.111 (talk) 01:55, 10 July 2010 (UTC)
