Birth info[edit]

Re your recent Nina Sky edit. According to Wikipedia:Manual of Style, birth details generally are Joe Soap (born 1 December 1930, London); NOT Joe Soap (born 1 December 1930, in London). Nothing to do with me, but that is how it is. Regards,

Can you undo your move?[edit]

Hi. I appreciate where you're coming from with wanting to have separate articles for the school and for the shooting. BUT we just wrapped up a painful series of Deletion discussions for the school, the shooting, the shootign victim and even the guy they named the school after. Can you undo your move and put it back the way it was? Just for the sake of the recently-achieved consensus?? Canuckle 01:56, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Regarding Latin Canadians[edit]

Sorry if I changed your recently updated article. Haitians aren't Latino in the sense of Hispanic culture yet they're technically Latin Americans, as Latin American countries are countries in which a Latin-derived language is spoken (in Haiti's case, French and the French-derived Haitian Creole). Haitians make up a significant populace in Canada and so I thought they should've been included in the article. I apologize for the edit.

Kardinal Offishall[edit]

Fair use album covers cannot be used in an article about the artist, only in articles about the individual albums. There is no fair use rationale on the albums' image pages as to how they are useable in the artist's articles, and to put them there is a copyright violation. Corvus cornix 17:33, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Your message[edit]

MySpace is not a credible source. Also, those sources for December 18 were published before a new source that said Wayne again decided to push back the release date, check the source. I just don't bother explaining myself anymore and I can't tell Wayne stans apart from good editors. No one bothers to check the source so I just say it's vandalism. Again, about the songs, MySpace isn't good, find something else, or maybe on Wayne's MySpace, but with all these leaked tracks I have no idea which ones are actually gonna be on the album and which aren't. --- Realest4Life 14:53, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

In Regards to Young Deuce Comment[edit]

DEDICATED TO User talk:Blackjays1 (section) Everyone knows that with the exception of Kardinal Offishal, and maybe Jellestone, JB, or Don Million, all other rappers around Toronto are underground. I promo Young Deuce to the fullest. Black Jays are a joke, and the entire city knows this. They have to keep a circle because they are fearful of the real talent in this city coming from places like the STREETS of Parma ct. and Jane and Finch. Toronto would be much better off, if we all helped each other rise in a movement like the south. Instead, Kardi and friends get booed everywhere, and little to no respect. Jully Black has never been back to Jane and Finch to do track with aspiriing artist. These individuals mind you, are 29 years plus and barely have careers going. Note that since they've never actually represented a actual hood, they aren't even considered O.G.'s. This is the unforgiving truth. And to top it all off, they have no respect in the streets. In Jane and Finch, everyone will tell you about Young Deuce, The Corps, George Reefah, The Smugglaz. BlackJays keep to themselves and never have been in the streets. Do your research on Young Deuce and Jane and Finch. The amount that Jane and Finch's Driftwood and Shoreham are in the News is ridicuous. When the last time you heard Blackjays have the balls to claim a block. Or been in the news on some charges. Nobody claims them. They are weak, have no street cred, and boring old men who try to relate to a world they no nothing of. The recieve funding because their good little people whose white friends like Snow sit on the board of VideoFact to help them get grants like, "Jeah. This video will be hot". And since there is NO real competition in the video cateogories, they win all the Juno's, Which they paid for through publicity managers. Give some real street niggaz a chance, and we'll see what happens. Talent. Blood or Crip, people will respect it. And as for those videos on youtube, it did its job...How? Now you know the name and it puts fear in you. Bothers you. Gets under your skin. Just like this note....LOL. These are mere facts. I feel sorry for you and your camp by now in reading this.LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL...

Fair use rationale for Image:SRC Logo.jpg[edit]

Please read the fair use guidelines[edit]

Before attempting to reintroduce the orphaned Fair Use image to the Russell Peters article, please read up on the requirements for a fair use rationale to be valid. It is almost never admissible to have fair use images of living people unless it is an image of historical importance. This is obviously not the case here. __meco (talk) 19:17, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Jamaica Religion section[edit]

Hi, thanks for reverting that user - I'd used up my reverts for the day. My question is, tho, should we split up the section in Culture on Rastafari, and put the religion-related portion in that section? I know there are some (notably a recent editor) who don't consider Rastafarianism a religion, so we may be swapping one fight for another. Another solution would be to reorder some of the section in the article, including splitting off the Religion section from demographics to its own section, as it is in most national articles. Thanks. - BillCJ (talk) 03:46, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

indo jamaican?[edit]

I noticed there are no exact sources like most other ethnic pages. but from doing research and looking around a bit i found this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-resident_Indian_and_Person_of_Indian_Origin that stated we had 62,000 of them living in the country. also the indo jamaican myspace http://groups.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=groups.groupProfile&groupID=105388177&MyToken=33cc8554-8f46-4555-8e42-2f58ad12d3d6 stated (Indo jamaican) a Jamaican of East Indian origin, descendant of the indentured immigrants that the British took from India in the 1830s for labour on the plantations around Jamaica. 37,000 Indians made it to Jamaica. Most were Hindu with a small minority of Muslims. The greatest influence was the cuisine. Roti and curries have become part of the nation's food.

Today, most Indo-Jamaicans are Christians due to converts and intermarriage, but the community is taking effort to revive Indian culture in the island. There are still several thousand Hindus. Different sources estimate the population of East Indians is 50,000 and half-East Indians at 42,000. Many have migrated to Florida, New York, Toronto and London. ive also done a little math but im not good at it. so i asked some one else to do it for me. and they got somewhere around 90,000+ just from multiplying jamaicas's population from the correct website UWI. but if thats not enough ill keep looking cause i want to see an exact number myself and not a percentage.

Also on the indo jamaican page the bottom paragraph said this: Approximately 70,000 Indians live in Jamaica today, maintaining their own cultural organizations and roots but assimilated into the wider community. Traditional Indian foods such as curry goat, roti and callaloo have become part of the national cuisine and are now seen as 'Jamaican'. The influence of the Caste system has largely atrophied and arranged marriages are no longer common. Descendants of the immigrant workers have influenced the fields of farming, medicine, politics and even horse-racing. Names such as Chatani, Chulani, Tewani, Mahtani, Daswani, Vaswani and Chandiram have become synonymous with manufacturing, wholesale, retail and in-bond businesses providing employment for thousands of Jamaicans. Cricketers of an Indian, as opposed to African, background have found success in representing both Jamaica on the domestic scene and the West Indies.

just go by what others are saying and stop being ignorant.

From what ive found out its better to put either 90,000 or 70,000. i dont care what the cia says there always changing something. anyways peace mi bredren*

You may not want to admit it but without any bias you will admit Carter is on the decline. He is 31 years old and can you tell me he is going to get better? Are all or most Jamaicans mixed in Jamaica?[edit]

Replaceable fair use Image:Tone_Mason.jpg[edit]

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Tone_Mason.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

War Edit[edit]

Blackjays1, why do you change my edit? Most Black Canadians are mixed and I have seen some have lighter skin or natural straight hair. Why can't you accept the truth? Sonic99 (talk) 04:03, 17 August 2008 (UTC)

Ya, you wish that many Canadians identify as blacks even though they may have multi-ethnic ancestries. There are fair-skinned Black Canadians and they're out there, but I think you denied them. Why do I need to provide a link for that? Wikipedia should provide a real information. Sonic99 (talk) 02:08, 18 August 2008 (UTC)

Dead links[edit]

Hi Blackjays, with ref to your recent edits to Toronto, it is my understanding that it is not acceptable practice to simply remove dead weblinks used in inline citations. Inline citations are used to support specific statements in the article and removing them leaves the text uncited, thus subject to challenge and removal.

Please see here for current practice on dead links in inline citations. In the event, I was able to find at least one link you removed as "dead" by checking the Wayback Machine. Checking archives and adding the relevant link is a lot harder than just deleting the dead link, as witness my flailing around that you can see in the article history. I think I finally got it right here though. Your review of my edits is welcomed. Regards! Franamax (talk) 00:42, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

Let your Akon slide[edit]

Would you happen to know, with the runaway chart success of "Dangerous" in the United States, if it's now surpassed "Let Your Backbone Slide" as the best-selling Canadian hip hop song — or at least where we might be able to find a real source to confirm one way or the other? The Backbone claim has been sitting uncited in a few articles for years now, so given that Kardi's now a Top 10 star in the US it might be worth finally getting that clarified. Thanks. Bishop Brigante[edit]

Hey Blackjays, I was wondering if you'd take on the task of recreating the article, as you have a better grasp on the subject than I do. Nobody wants to un-delete it, so what if I can get the closing admin to hook you up with the deleted version of the article so that you can add to it, and recreate it? It's pretty obvious that he's notable, there just needs to be a better article that won't get deleted. --Pwnage8 (talk) 06:27, 30 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks. I drove around and snapped some shots, thought it would be fun. I like the changes you've made. I was thining about changing it even more along those lines. I was considering make subsections like the one about Schools with the pics, but one about Transportation, History, Demographics, See Also and External Links - like the page on the Willowdale neighbourhood - what do you think?

Also did you see the Morningside 116 bus running through the south part of the area? They are doing a trial run, but now we have a total of three bus routes! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Underlie (talkcontribs) 16:36, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Nah, I don't think they'll cancel the 133 - I guess you live on the north east part of the area. - Anyways, I won't make any more changes unless there's new developments to list or something super important. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Underlie (talkcontribs) 00:26, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

I just don't think it's a waste to have the history on the front page of a sports team. It's better to have it on a seperate page because the people who look up sports teams only really care about the recent history. You made the point of the other teams having it on the front, but I still feel it's pointless to have something on a page, which most people aren't going to read.--Fire 55 (talk) 22:09, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

Crime in Jamaica[edit]

You probably noticed I moved the Crime section from the Jamaica article to the Crime in Jamaica. What was there was totally unsourced,a nd the section in Jamaica was sourcved and better written. I left only a short section in Jamaica to summarize. I did not leave anything on the gays and murder, as I wasn't sure it was needed in the main article, and I couldn't simplify it into one sentence. If you can sumarize that paragraph in one sentence, feel free to add it to the main article. I would like to find a few less-biased sources to add to the section in the crime articel to balance it out some - the exisitng ones are quite one-sided. - BilCat (talk) 03:53, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Music artist navboxes[edit]

Regarding your recent reversion of my edit to Template:Kardinal Offishall—navboxes are only supposed to include links to existing articles. In the case of musicians, that means that you don't list every album and single, only the ones that have their own articles. For an example of recent consensus regarding this issue, see this discussion. Please revert back to my version so that the navbox meets Wikipedia standards. TheJazzDalek (talk) 00:48, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

I refuse to revert it. If that's the case, why do the navboxes of notable artists such as Busta Rhymes and T.I. include singles that don't have their own articles? Personally, I don't think it makes sense to not include the lesser-known singles. For an artist like Kardinal Offishall, not every single he puts out is a chart-topper, but it's misleading if only the linked singles are in the box. It's misleading because he didn't put out only 12 singles in 13 years, which is what your edit suggests. Blackjays1 (talk) 01:31, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
Did you even read the link I gave you? Here's another one: WP:NAVBOX. That box is not for compiling information like a discography, that's what Kardinal Offishall discography is for. The overwhelming consensus at WP:MUSTARD is that it's for links only. Just because some other navboxes are incorrectly used doesn't change that. TheJazzDalek (talk) 10:00, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
I understand and accept it, though I still disagree with doing it that way. Nice talk. I take it you're a jazz rap lover like me? Blackjays1 (talk) 19:37, 2 February 2010 (UTC)
That's cool, Wikipedia's like that, you'll do things a certain way until one day you find out that it's supposed to be done differently, or else the rules changed but you didn't hear about it. Part of the problem with the musician navboxes is that so many people do it the wrong way that if someone saw one done correctly it could be misleading. I agree that it could be more clear, and I'm trying to think of a good (yet unobtrusive) way to indicate inside the navbox that it's not a complete list. While I do like jazz rap, I can't say I'm more a fan of that than other rap; I'm not a massive rap fan but what I like is kind of all over the place. Actually, that's a fair description of most music I like, it's all over the place. Anyway, thanks for understanding—I don't enjoy butting heads with people on here, though it does appear to be an occupational hazard. Peace, TheJazzDalek (talk) 23:35, 2 February 2010 (UTC)

Maestro[edit]

When I click on the page (or on the link you provided), I just get a normal blank edit box with no edit history to indicate that the page was ever protected at all; normally I'd be able to see some kind of history to clarify why the page was blocked. So could you try again, just in case it was a weird technical error, and if it still doesn't work could you give me a bit more detail about what you actually see when you try?

Worst case scenario, if we can't figure anything else out then I'll ask you to create the article on a sandbox page and then I'll try to use some administrator magic to move it to the proper title. Thanks. Bearcat (talk) 15:15, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Even though we can override the block itself, admins are still supposed to be able to see the pink warning boxes so that we know why the page is blocked — but for some reason I see nothing at all. Hmmmmmm. I'll keep looking into this, but yeah, if you get a sandbox version done before I have another answer for you, then let me know and I'll move it into articlespace for you. Thanks for the heads-up. Bearcat (talk) 18:41, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Progress! I just tried logging out so that I was looking at the page as an IP number instead of as an administrator, and finally saw the warning box, so I have a better idea of what's going on now. I think the problem is most likely the ?!! at the end, as one of the blacklist rules is "excessive punctuation"; I can't find any other rule that the title might be violating or any indication that the title itself has been directly blocked. (And if it's just a generic text string accidentally matching something on the exclusion list, that would explain why I wasn't seeing the warning earlier, too.) So instead of going through the whole sandbox rigamarole, try creating it at the unpunctuated Naaah, Dis Kid Can't Be from Canada instead, and then I'll move that afterward. Sound like a plan? Bearcat (talk) 19:02, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Moved. I love it when a brilliant idea works out! (*grin*) Bearcat (talk) 17:21, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Reviewer.svg

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Andrew Wiggins[edit]

Hey, Blackjays1, I'm a big fan of Andrew, but I don't see how Wiggins playing with Bennett is notable. You reverted me here: Blackjays1 reversion. The article is about Wiggins. If we list every big time player that Wiggins is going to compete against in the next three years then the article is going to get unbelievably long and still none of those references will be notable. We don't have a section on Paul Pierce's page or Mario Chalmers page listing every big-time player these guys competed against in college or in the pros. And that statement applies to all of the big-time players. It would be unending. It seems that if you edit so that you mention Bennett in relation to a big victory: a conference championship, a division championship, a tourney championship, etc. then the mention of both players would be notable, but as it now stands it is not notable.--Bing Norton 14:54, 7 July 2013 (UTC)

Understood. However, I still feel it is notable because Wiggins played with the most recent number one overall pick (Bennett) at the tournament, and they won a bronze medal together. As a big fan of Canada Basketball and the Canadian men's national team, I felt it was important to point that out. It's not often that two Canadians who were both drafted in the first round played internationally together, AND won a medal together; when Wiggins gets drafted next year, I believe it'll only be the third time in history. Of course, the list of Americans who've done that would be very long, so I don't think that's a fair comparison. This whole thing is subjective anyway, but I hope you see where I'm coming from. I wasn't trying to "steal the thunder" from Wiggins or anything like that. Blackjays1 (talk) 20:56, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
Well, you should edit it in such a way that it is clear that they won the bronze together in international competition. That would be notable.--Bing Norton 21:02, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
