Frog fish[edit]

I redid the shape of the frogfish. Take a look again (you may need to hit Ctrl+F5). If it is ok, I may continue again. Too late now for me to continue. Good day. Yawn... Shyamal (talk) 17:25, 15 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, concerns over WP:OR have led me to move the article to user space User:Bob_the_Wikipedian/Maluku frogfish. I am afraid it is not ready yet for showtime without the new species description as a WP:RS. Hope you agree. Shyamal (talk) 02:38, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The fancy SVG illustration software Inkscape is open source and available fromw http://www.inkscape.org Shyamal (talk) 02:53, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The cited references are mostly news reports. While there is no doubt that this is a new species, articles with a taxobox are expected to have formal names. Stating that it is a "new species" without the required rigour would make it WP:OR. The formal species description paper will be published in one of the peer-reviewed fish taxonomy journals (no idea what those are) but I am sure the folks at FishBase will add the references as soon as they see it. That would either give a new Species under a pre-existing Genus or if it is a new Genus (would be monotypic) we need to have Genus redirects to this article. Folks at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Fishes may have some ideas on when and where this might be published. Shyamal (talk) 03:41, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disambiguation[edit]

Yes there is a disambiguation page for Ganja. An editor unilaterally changed the disambiguation without any discussion, at least that I know of. Mpondopondo (talk) 05:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a thanks[edit]

I just wanted to drop by and give you a thank you for something you did, just letting you know it was noticed, from one Wikipedian to another.

The Original Barnstar
A thank you for your creation of a quality stub for the weevil species, Pissodes strobi Just so you know it was noticed, now if only we could fill in Tomicus piniperda. Thanks again. IvoShandor (talk) 12:08, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

-IvoShandor (talk) 12:08, 16 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are most welcome for the barnstar you earned it. Nice stub on the pine shoot beetle btw, good photo find too. I kinda realized that stubbing was your gig when I looked over your contribution history, so what you have done is most excellent. I'll get around to expanding it sooner or later. Thanks for doing that. IvoShandor (talk) 06:19, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I, another, second this 'pedian's words. Thanks :) (Unsigned comment by User:99.238.77.166 on 20:18, 9 May 2008 in reference to IvoShandor's first comment.)

Barnstar[edit]

Hi Bob. Thank you for the barnstar and the badge. M&NCenarius (talk) 07:09, 17 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Old Dominion University edits[edit]

You have reverted my edits on the ODU page as vandalism. If you would look at what have I edited you would see i was removing items that clearly violates wikipedia guidelines (i.e. self promotion of students by their full name, unneeded info regarding parking, and some format edits). That page in particular is in need of a clean up. Please justify your reversion of my edits. Bvjrm (talk) 03:38, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The reason your edits were reverted was because you replaced several instances of text with the category [[Category:Education in Norfolk, Virginia]]. Other edits were assumed to be equally vandal-oriented, as vandals rarely make positive contributions to an article. Bob the Wikipedian, the Tree of Life WikiDragon (talk) 03:42, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thats odd, i honestly did not make those edits (it is under my name though). I have no idea how everything got replaced with [[Category:Education in Norfolk, Virginia]]. Im a fairly veteran wikipeaian and that has never happen. I apologize for the misunderstanding and assure you i meant no harm. Bvjrm (talk) 03:50, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I see that Wikipedia was preforming routine maintenance when i made the edits, must have been a glitch. Bvjrm (talk) 03:53, 18 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Archae micrograph.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading commons:Image:Archae micrograph.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.--Weekapart (talk) 14:29, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of List of symbols found on electronic equipment[edit]

I have nominated List of symbols found on electronic equipment, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of symbols found on electronic equipment. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? MBisanz talk 00:37, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Graphics for Barnstar[edit]

I have created two barnstar images.

Green Bubble at Image:Opinion Barnstar Green.jpg
Blue Bubble at Image:Opinion Barnstar Blue.jpg

You may use these and I hope you and me recieve many barnstars in the future. If there is anything else, just contact me. SimpsonsFan08 talk 17:16, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thanks for changing the graphic on the barnstar I gave to AC. It looks a lot better. Is this graphic going to be permanent in the new template? InfoNation101 | talk | 17:52, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As a Commons admin (also), I'd like you to please not consider putting miscellaneous copyrighted electronics-related symbols on Wikimedia Commons.

Many editors tend to think of Commons as "that place where you toss any image you care to", where in actuality, it's sole purpose is as a repository for properly licensed, free (to distribute, use, and modify), and properly sourced media of all sorts. If you have media that does qualify, please feel free to upload there, but anything failing that criteria will be speedily deleted.

If you're interested in working on Commons, please see commons:Commons:Own work and commons:Commons:Derivative works. Note that the double "commons:" in the link isn't a typo.

My apologies for the members of our editing community who may have steered you wrong in this regards. :) ~Kylu (u|t) 23:25, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

No problem. Have you considered just printing it out and using it for your own personal use instead? I could render it print-friendly and mail it to you, if you'd like. PDF? ~Kylu (u|t) 23:49, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

WikiDragons[edit]

Hi Bob - you wrote: You may want to add your userpage to Category:Wikipedian WikiDragons if you wish to have your name displayed on that page with other WikiDragons. Note that even though the link is red, the names are still displayed.

Yeees, but the reason the link is red is that technically the category doesn't exist (and by the looks of it, given the number of deleted edits, it shouldn't exist). Normally with userboxes like that you'd simply look on the "what links here" link in the toolbox on the template's page. Grutness...wha? 03:06, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly. Bob, please stop encouraging users to add themselves to this deleted category, it is deleted for a reason and the more members it has the higher it will appear on Special:Wantedcategories, substantially increasing the liklihood that the category will be recreated against consensus. If you want this category to be recreated, you should bring it to deletion review. Thanks, VegaDark (talk) 01:13, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, this topic is like a week old...I can't believe I just got another response. I haven't encouraged it ever since I got the original message from Grutness. Bob the Wikipedian, the Tree of Life WikiDragon (talk) 03:50, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Help?[edit]

{{helpme}} http://data.gbif.org/occurrences/search.htm?c[0].s=20&c[0].p=0&c[0].o=16295902

How do I format this link to appear correctly as a reference for an article? The square brackets are complicating things. Thanks, Bob the Wikipedian, the Tree of Life WikiDragon (talk) 20:04, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think that you can easily, or at all as a matter of fact! Sorry! The Helpful One (Review) 21:35, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Does this work? I'm getting a data use agreement, with either link, so double-check and make sure these are both going to the same place. The square brackets have been URL encoded ([ -> %5B, ] -> %5D). – Luna Santin (talk) 22:13, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm removing the helpme, but if the above doesn't work, feel free to put it back up. Thanks. Hersfold (t/a/c) 22:19, 28 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for experimenting with Wikipedia. Your test worked, and the page that you created has been or soon will be deleted. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Truthanado (talk) 02:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It seems you may have inadvertently created this page in Wikipedia namespace. If you wanted it in your user space, its name would be User:Bob the Wikipedian/Zoobox/doc. The leading User: is very important. If you would like some help, please contact the Wikipedia:Help desk or leave me a note on my talk page. Truthanado (talk) 02:08, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Twinkle[edit]

{{helpme}} What happened to Twinkle? I used to have it, but now I don't. Did I abuse it or something? I sure didn't get any warning! Bob the Wikipedian, the Tree of Life WikiDragon (talk) 03:59, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It got removed from everyone's gadgets, because there is no way for admins to remove it in case of abuse. You now must install it manually (instructions at WP:TW). Soxred93 (u t) 04:04, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

DYK[edit]

Updated DYK query On 30 April, 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Pierre the penguin, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

Regarding Your Comment...[edit]

It isn't any plan...there are certain sites that send mindless drones to Wikipedia and they abuse a revision in the article/user talk history. If you aren't a grizzled vandal fighter you may not be familiar with them :P...so be careful about what you say next time.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:02, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't make assumptions basically ;)...trust me that's the last thing someone needs to hear after receiving a troll flood.¤~Persian Poet Gal (talk) 02:06, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Bob, all my pictures are licensed under creative commons so you are free to used them in your forum provided that proper attribution is given and is not used for commercial purpose. Nichollsia should be easy to do thanks to your excellent link to the fossil images. Cheers. ArthurWeasley (talk) 05:12, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Picture is done. It is posted on my user page. ArthurWeasley (talk) 05:40, 9 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Expanding plus signs[edit]

{{helpme}} How do I make plus signs (+) which expand a section when clicked? To see what I mean, look at the stub category pages.

For example, if I click on the plus sign below:

Bacteria

+Neomura

It should yield the following:

Bacteria

-Neomura

Archaea
Eukaryota

Thanks in advance! Bob the Wikipedian, the Tree of Life WikiDragon (talk) 04:46, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Bob!
That feature is a called a collapsible table, for more information please read Wikipedia:Collapsible.

Cretaceous sea[edit]

Re your question at talk:WikiProject Dinosaurs: "What is the name of the sea that divided North America in the Late Cretaceous?"
Info-rich but kind of crowded page at http://www.oceansofkansas.com/ -- Scroll about 3/4 way down to see map and geographical information.
Author calls this the Western Interior Sea. I've seen this called the Kansas Sea and Niobara Sea. I suspect that you can find some other more scholarly sources as well.
-- Writtenonsand (talk) 00:21, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have restored the previous version. This brings this article into line with that of other monogeneric genera, i.e. the genus is given its own article page not the binomen (see Carcharodontosaurus, Uberabasuchus, Mahajangasuchus, etc. etc.). Also, a good deal of the information on the previous version was wrong. It is known from Turonian-Santonian deposits, not Campanian; plus the line "is thought to be the missing link between present-day and prehistoric crocodiles" is a clear copy from a news article [1] and not actually in the published paper (and strictly speaking unture). It was described in 2007, not 2004. As such, there was no need to discuss any changes as they are legitimate. Also, I think you should take a look at WP:OWN Mark t young (talk) 07:15, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the "guns blazing" approach. I've just been dealing with a lot of vandalism to pages I generally edit recently. I was too hasty with the accusations. Sorry for any offence. As for the news article, a good bit of the information from it wasn't correct so I edited it vigorously. Generally when I read edits on fossil animals based upon data from blogs or news sites I get suspicious. Primary literature is the best place to get really good, verifiable info. Hopefully no hard feelings? Best, Mark t young (talk) 21:05, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have made major amendments to the the article Nichollsia (plesiosaur) due to incorrect information put there by yourself. In future can I recommend that you read the original published paper on a new taxon rather than news pages and blogs? Also some information, such as it being a resident of the Western Interior Seaway, and being Late Cretaceous in age constitute original (and wrong) research. Plese read WP:V and WP:OR before future edits. Thank you. Mark t young (talk) 07:57, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
