Clean Fuels Ohio[edit]

A {{prod}} template has been added to the article Clean Fuels Ohio, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice explains why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. If you endorse deletion of the article, and you are the only person who has made substantial edits to the page, please tag it with {{db-author}}. AfD discussion[edit]

I thought that you, as a contributor to List of fictional books, might want to add your opinion to this discussion of the possible deletion of List of fictional books within the Harry Potter series.--ShelfSkewed Talk 18:33, 9 September 2007 (UTC)

HP fictional books intro[edit]

I think it's tremendous, but I can tell you right now what the objection is going to be from Judgesurreal777: No out-of-world referenced notability. That is, we need to find someone else who might be considered an authority (Rowling herself, another author, an academic, or a book reviewer) asserting the significance of the fictional books as more than just trivial details of the narrative. As I mentioned to JerryFriedman, I think those sources are out there somewhere, but they may not be as easy to find as Googling up a book review.--ShelfSkewed Talk 05:46, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I agree that the intro improves the article and that nevertheless it won't make any difference to the people who want the article deleted.
It seems to me that if the fictitious books are important enough to list in real books, such as the two references I provided, they're "notable". However, some may want to see sources backing up statements that the fictitious books are important to the plot of the books, their charm, etc. That may require looking in JSTOR and other places that aren't so easily accessible. —JerryFriedman 16:11, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
and, Bookgirl, you say you're an academic librarian--so go to it. This is why they need people like us here. (and in the world in general, of course) DGG (talk) 09:09, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Smarttags2.PNG)[edit]

Nuvola apps important blue.svg Thanks for uploading Image:Smarttags2.PNG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Photocopylore and Faxlore[edit]

I've proposed to merge the photocopylore article you created into faxlore. I see that yours was create as a result of a missing-articles request. The merger should perhaps go the other way; "photocopylore" seems to get more print in play, even if "Xeroxlore" seems a somewhat better formed word in English. Xeroxlore currently redirects to faxlore rather than to photocopylore last time I checked.

"Faxlore" is also currently up for deletion. Your opinion would be appreciated. - Smerdis of Tlön 21:53, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Smarttags.PNG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Smarttags.PNG. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 17:42, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Aat sample.JPG[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Aat sample.JPG. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --04:15, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

Merrow image[edit]

Sorry to be a killjoy, but I've just removed the tattoo image from the Merrow article again. See Talk:Merrow for my reasons. The copyright issue is pretty clear here: if you aren't sure you own the copyright, it's a reasonable working assumption for Wikipedia copyright purposes that you probably don't. -- The Anome (talk) 22:44, 20 August 2008 (UTC)

Is this libelous?[edit]

Hi! I'm here asking for advice. I've noticed a comment on this article's talk page and I wonder if this would be considered libelous?? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Annie_McGuire I presumed it was and I tried to undo it, but for some reason the system wouldn't let me. Please let me know what you think. Evening Scribe (talk) 10:51, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia articles are supposed to be written from a neutral point of view and this would definitely be unacceptable as part of the article. But it's permissible for the Talk pages of articles to contain opinions (even ones that, like this one, aren't very useful!), and some talk page discussions get quite intense and heated. Generally you're not supposed to edit Talk pages since they're intended to be a complete record of all discussion regarding the article. However, according to Wikipedia:Talk_page_guidelines#Editing_comments you can remove libel or personal attacks, and I think this would qualify. I'm not sure why it "wouldn't let you" but I went ahead and removed it. Bookgrrl holler/lookee here 02:50, 28 September 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Image:Hatch marks2.JPG[edit]

Ambox warning pn.svg

A tag has been placed on Image:Hatch marks2.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I8 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is available as a bit-for-bit identical copy on the Wikimedia Commons under the same name, or all references to the image on Wikipedia have been updated to point to the title used at Commons.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:Hatch marks2.JPG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. JaGatalk 09:45, 18 November 2008 (UTC)

Notability of A. Hyatt Mayor[edit]

Information icon.svg

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on A. Hyatt Mayor, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because A. Hyatt Mayor seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting A. Hyatt Mayor, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. To see the user who deleted the page, click here CSDWarnBot (talk) 22:40, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Alphabetization and collation[edit]

I am inviting you to comment, in your capacity as a librarian, at Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style#Alphabetization and collation. -- Wavelength (talk) 15:36, 28 January 2009 (UTC)

Discussion has been transferred to Wikipedia talk:Lists#Alphabetization and collation.
-- Wavelength (talk) 04:38, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
Please copy your message to that discussion page, below the second navigation template.
-- Wavelength (talk) 04:56, 7 February 2009 (UTC)
The discussion on the first talk page was active for a while and then inactive for a while, so I created the second template on the second talk page; but then the discussion on the first talk page was active again, so I had to reconsider how to organize the discussion on the second talk page. My plan now is to wait until the discussion on the first talk page is archived, and then copy all of the additional comments from the first talk page to the second template on the second talk page.

Hello, just letting you know that there's a discussion at Talk:Leon Day (disambiguation) that you may be interested in. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 19:32, 13 February 2012 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Leon Day (disambiguation)[edit]

Ambox warning yellow.svg

The article Leon Day (disambiguation) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Unneeded disambiguation page, as there are only two items of which one, Leon Day is the primary topic. Doesn't appear to be a case of WP:TWODABS; page view stats (approx. 600 to 100) and google search suggest baseball pitcher is the primary topic.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Help with Latvian mythology[edit]

Hi Bookgrrl,

A few other editors and I are involved in a discussion at Talk:Latvian mythology#Latvian mythology or Baltic mythology? about whether Latvian mythology (and, by extension, other Baltic mythology articles like Lithuanian mythology) are deserving of their own articles or whether they should be merged into Baltic mythology, which should be written to explain the similarities and differences between them?

You seem to be involved with WP:Wikiproject Mythology and your knowledge of writing mythology articles could be a great help in our discussion.

Kind regards, Matt (talk) 21:54, 22 July 2012 (UTC)

Disambiguation link fixing one-day contest[edit]

I have decided to put on a mini-contest within the November 2013 monthly disambiguation contest, on Saturday, November 23 (UTC). I will personally give a $20 Amazon.com gift card to the disambiguator who fixes the most links on that server-day (see the project page for details on scoring points). Since we are not geared up to do an automated count for that day, at 00:00, 23 November 2013 (UTC) (which is 7:00 PM on November 22, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the project page leaderboard. I will presume that anyone who is not already listed on the leaderboard has precisely nine edits. At 01:00, 24 November 2013 (UTC) (8:00 PM on November 23, EST), I'll take a screenshot of the leaderboard at that time (the extra hour is to give the board time to update), and I will determine from that who our winner is. I will credit links fixed by turning a WP:DABCONCEPT page into an article, but you'll have to let me know me that you did so. Here's to a fun contest. Note that according to the Daily Disambig, we currently have under 256,000 disambiguation links to be fixed. If everyone in the disambiguation link fixers category were to fix 500 links, we would have them all done - so aim high! Cheers! bd2412 T 02:01, 18 November 2013 (UTC)
