[edit] Universality
Hey, Just a courtesy to let you know that if you don't have a font on your computer, if it's in use on Wikipedia, then generally speaking, it's going to be a commonly used font. If you're going to modify fonts, don't simply type over with a new font (and there was a reason it wasn't in arial, on the {{John Mayer}} template). If you look at the template I'fe just linked, you'll see what I've done to correct it, allowing the font wanted, but also allowing other fonts as a fallback. --lincalinca 14:46, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip! --BrOnXbOmBr21 23:29, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] re-playstation 3
err, sorry...one of which may be controversial (putting the VAT note at the top of the table)...but people weren't getting it, so I thought it might clarify. If you have a better idea, please go ahead and do it. --gatoatigrado 16:35, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
- by the way, though I don't care on my talk page, it's against MoS to put links in headers I think. --gatoatigrado 16:36, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

- no need to apologize. --gatoatigrado 15:36, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Rolling Stones ‘tongue’ logo image
While I understand that the image in question (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tongue_%28Rolling_Stones%29.png) is a rather high-res picture and thus probably not eligible for the WP fair use logo template that is invoked on its page, I don’t see why you have to go ahead and delete it directly off of my user page without at least saying something on my talk page first. If anything, start a discussion on the image’s page itself; don’t just go around deleting the image out of the code of a userbox on people’s userpages. —BrOnXbOmBr21 07:56, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
- "Fair use images" can never be used on a user's page. Item #9 of Wikipedia:Fair use criteria (that I mentioned on my edit summary) is pretty clear about that. There isn't much left for discussion. I hope you understand. Best regards, --Abu badali (talk) 09:15, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MOS as applied to Garamond article: the horse neighs back
Hi BrOnXbOmBr21. Please edit or revert as you wish. My changes were a while back. My memory is this: there were far too many links of "Harry Potter" and it is especially unnecessary in the sub-head. I like Harry Potter very, very much, and it is wonderful that they include a colophon at the end of the book. Yet in the long and wide history of the typeface's uses it is not very significant and to my mind very Anglo-centric. Garamond is a French born face. It is a voice of both the Renaissance and the Enlightenment. Mea culpa on the size of sub-heads. I just like them that way.
Completely off the subject, I "visited" your user page and saw the Indian flag and mention of Indian ancestry. I am just back from my first trip there (mostly Rajasthan). Amazing place. And am planning to go back in May '08. My best, Jim CApitol3 05:26, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Cicatrices de flagellation sur un esclave downsampled.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Cicatrices de flagellation sur un esclave downsampled.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 03:06, 19 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Playstationnetwork-1.jpg
Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Playstationnetwork-1.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast 22:39, 18 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading Image:Destructoid screen.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Destructoid screen.jpg)
Thanks for uploading Image:Destructoid screen.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:KaiserChiefs-YoursTruly,AngryMob2007.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:KaiserChiefs-YoursTruly,AngryMob2007.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 00:44, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Vote for a post-meetup restaurant
I'm charged with making the reservations for us, so let's make it official. We'll do this via voting and everyone including anonymous voters, sockpuppets, and canvassed supporters is enfranchised. Voting irregularities and election fraud are encouraged as that would be really amusing in this instance. Please vote for whichever restaurant you would like to eat at given the information provided above and your own personal prejudices at Wikipedia:Meetup/NYC#Let's make it official. The prevailing restaurant will be called first for the reservation. If a reservation cannot be obtained at the winning restaurant, the runner-up restaurant will be called thus making this entire process pointless. Voting ends 24 hours after this timestamp (because I said so). ScienceApologist (talk) 17:19, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:A Charlie Brown Christmas (Rmst).jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided copyright information for them as well.

In the afternoon, we will hold a session dedicated to meta:Wikimedia New York City activities, review the recent Wikipedia Day NYC, plan for the next stages of projects like Wikipedia at the Library and Lights Camera Wiki, and hold salon-style group discussions on Wikipedia and the other Wikimedia projects, for example User:ScienceApologist will present on "climate change, alternative medicine, UFOs and Transcendental Meditation" (see the November meeting's minutes).
In the evening, we'll share dinner and chat at a local restaurant, and generally enjoy ourselves and kick back. And if the weather is good, we'll have a star party with the telescopes on the roof of Pupin Hall!

[edit] NYC Meetup: Saturday, December 4
Our next Wikipedia NYC Meetup is this weekend on Saturday Dec 4 at Brooklyn Museum during their awesome First Saturdays program, starting at 5 PM.
A particular highlight for the wiki crowd will be 'Seductive Subversion: Women Pop Artists, 1958–1968', and the accompanying "WikiPop" project, with specially-created Wikipedia articles on the artists displayed on iPads in the gallery.
This will be a museum touring and partying meetup, so no excuses about being a shy newbie this time. Bring a friend too!

[edit] You're invited to the New York Wiknic!
This message is being sent to inform you of a Wikipedia picnic that is being held in your area next Saturday, June 25. From 1 to 8 PM or any time in between, join your fellow volunteers for a get together at Norman's Landscape (directions) in Manhattan's Central Park.
Take along your friends (newbies permitted), your family and other free culture enthusiasts! You may also want to pack a blanket, some water or perhaps even a frisbee.
If you can, share what you're bringing at the discussion page.
Also, please remember that this is the picnic that anyone can edit so bring enough food to share!
To subscribe to future events, follow the mailing list or add your username to the invitation list. BrownBot (talk) 18:59, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

[edit] National Archives ExtravaSCANza
| You are invited to the National Archives ExtravaSCANza, taking place every day next week from January 4–7, Wednesday to Saturday, in College Park, Maryland (Washington, DC metro area). Come help me cap off my stint as Wikipedian in Residence at the National Archives with one last success!
This will be a casual working event in which Wikipedians are getting together to scan interesting documents at the National Archives related to a different theme each day—currently: spaceflight, women's suffrage, Chile, and battleships—for use on Wikipedia/Wikimedia Commons. The event is being held on multiple days, and in the evenings and weekend, so that as many locals and out-of-towners from nearby regions1 as possible can come. Please join us! Dominic·t 01:11, 30 December 2011 (UTC) 1 Wikipedians from DC, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Newark, New York City, and Pittsburgh have been invited. |
