Bruce1ee, You submitted a DYK on an article I wrote a while back. Today I started an article on George F. Bond. I think this one might also be of interest in the DYK section. What do you think? --Gene Hobbs (talk) 22:38, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

It was just nominated... Thanks! --Gene Hobbs (talk) 23:32, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
Hi, I've verified the DYK nomination. The article looks good, well done! BTW you could illustrate the nomination with the drawing of Bond from the article. It will need to be clear at 100x100px, so a crop of the drawing might be preferable. --Bruce1ee 07:32, 30 January 2010 (UTC)

Russian Standard Vodka

Hello, I saw you not accepting DYK nomination of Russian Standard Vodka. Can you give me further help on how to get this to main page? I believe it is impossible to make it larger 5x. CrystalQuartz (talk) 19:20, 17 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I'm sorry I had to reject your DYK nomination last month, but I'm bound by the current DYK rules. If you say that a 5-times expansion is not possible, then I think another option to having it appear on the Main Page is to get it promoted to a featured article. Have a look at "The path to a Featured Article" box on the right. I hope this helps you. --Bruce1ee 07:30, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I've withdrawn my original hook for the above article at DYK (even though you OKd it on good faith). I've relisted it with another article that has just become eligible. As the nomination and hook have been changed (albeit very slightly), I thought I'd inform you rather than reinstate your comment. You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 19:08, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Virender Sehwag

Hey there Bruce1ee. You undid my edit at Virender Sehwag with the reason "infobox doesn't provide for refs". Is there a policy which states this? I'm lost. A user was recently blocked because s/he didn't provide references to information in the infobox. Cheers,  Davtra  (talk) 10:36, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

The test caps entry in the infobox (testcap = 239) does not allow you to append a reference; it creates a link to List of India Test cricketers out of whatever follows the "=", including citations! That was why I included the source in my edit summary. If you feel that there must be a reference in the infobox, then revert my change because I don't know where to put it. —Bruce1ee 10:51, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Hmm, good point. I see the problem. I'll experiment with the infobox. Wikipedia's policy states that all facts must be sourced, so that's why I didn't accept the user's contribution. Thanks for your response. Cheers,  Davtra  (talk) 11:27, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi,

You beet me to this edit - however I don't think it was vandalism if you re-read exactly what the IP changed I think it was just good faith edit that went a bit wrong and you may wish to revert the Talk page warning. Codf1977 (talk) 10:58, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

I think you're right. What the ip wrote probably is correct, but out of context here. Thanks for pointing it out. I've reverted my warning on the ip's talk page. Unfortunately I can't change my edit summary in the article's history. —Bruce1ee 11:15, 13 July 2010 (UTC)
you are spot on about the context, it took me 3 or 4 reads to work out what on earth the IP was getting at - as for the edit sum not a problem - is nothing that can be done. Codf1977 (talk)

Steamtown DYK nom

hi, I just found out that Steamtown, USA was nominated for DYK, and I noticed that you questioned if the hook had a cited fact. The fact that the Steamtown had excursions out of Walpole, NH is cited in #3. There is also a full cited description of the excursions from Bellows Falls, with images. I don't even know what this nomination means, I've been too busy working on the article to figure it out. --Ishtar456 (talk) 04:08, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Steamtown, USA looks to be developing into a very nice article, well done! I see it is still under construction, and in this state I don't think it can be featured on the Main Page (Chzz should have told you of his/her intention to nominate it for DYK). But if you can finish it in the next 3-4 days it will still be eligible for approval. My query at DYK about the citing of the hook statement refers to the DYK rule that says
"The hook fact must be cited in the article with an inline citation, since inline citations are used to support specific statements in an article. The hook fact must have an inline citation right after it since the fact is an extraordinary claim; citing the hook fact at the end of the paragraph is not acceptable."
The statement "that Steamtown, USA was a steam locomotive museum that ran excursions out of North Walpole, New Hampshire and Bellows Falls, Vermont from the 1960s until 1984?" appears in the first sentence of the article, but needs a citation to support this claim. Often articles don't have citations in the lead because the lead should be a summary of the rest of the article. If that is the case then this fact must be repeated in the body of the article with its citation. You're almost there, just let me know when you're finished. I hope this helps. —Bruce1ee 06:36, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Well, the opening sentence was written in summary. As I understood the rule the hook should contain a fact that is cited in the article. This sentence contains a few facts that are cited in the article. I am using primarily newspapers, at this point, which give information from only one date in time, but my lead contains a time span. Unless I find another retrospective on Steamtown to cite, I will not find that reference. If many existed, I would not have felt so compelled to write one.

I guess I am a little confused about the DYK criteria and how it is followed. I just took a look at today's DYK and found that the first article listed, Shandaken Tunnel, is an entirely uncited stub-so much for being of substantial length. It was nice to have the article nominated, but I cannot do as you suggested, for one thing getting it done in a few days is impossible, as the article I envision would be at least five-fold what it is now, and I cannot cite the details of the first sentence with just one citation. I wish I could see just one of today's DYK entries as an example of an article that is done, but since they are mostly uncited, short, and in some cased tagged stubs, I guess I don't see any of them as having followed the criteria. Take Care, --Ishtar456 (talk) 11:21, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Shandaken Tunnel is not the DYK article, it's Deep Notch. The DYK articles are in bold. —Bruce1ee 11:27, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Oh, that's different. I've actually been there...on my way home from Steamtown in Scranton, ironically. Please take one more look at the lead sentence in Steamtown, USA. You may or may not like it. I expect the article to look like it is done with in the next couple of days.--Ishtar456 (talk) 12:20, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

That lead sentence is fine. Now it's just the sections "under construction" and then the article will be ready to go. —Bruce1ee 12:53, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Okay, the article appears to be finished now. It no longer appears under construction. I hope you like it.--Ishtar456 (talk) 02:52, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks. It looks good and I've verified the DYK nom here. It will probably sit there for a few days until someone loads it into one of the DYK queues here, from which you'll be able to see when it will hit the Main Page. —Bruce1ee 05:43, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

I see it on the nom page, but it is not in the prep area on in a queue, so what happened, was it rejected?--Ishtar456 (talk) 12:29, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

No, it hasn't been rejected. It just hasn't been selected yet for the DYK queues. Give it a few days. —Bruce1ee 15:05, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the congrats. There were 3400 hits. It even got vandalized!!! What more could I have asked for?--Ishtar456 (talk) 03:26, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

Zoë Skoulding

Hello Bruce1ee, and thank you so much for adding to the entry on me. I have not contributed to wikipedia in any way before, so apologies if I get anything wrong, or if this isn't the right place.

It's just that I've had increasing problems lately with people using the entry for publicity purposes, particularly the photo. It was a picture taken of me unawares when I was listening to music (in the dark!), and as such I don't feel it's appropriate for public use. Would it be possible for it to be removed? Someone has tried to upload an alternative one for me but I'm not sure if this will work.

I'd really appreciate your help.

Zskoulding (talk) 13:58, 5 August 2010 (UTC)

The 50 DYK Creation and Expansion Medal

The 50 DYK Creation and Expansion Medal
Congratulations are in order! You have passed the milestone of 50 "Did you know?" entries created or expanded by yourself, entries that appeared on Wikipedia's Main page. Your articles on a wide variety of topics, primarily of authors, books, albums and musicians, continue to be a great addition to the greatest online encyclopedia. Fantastic! Thanks for the 50 DYK Creation and Expansion Medal, and for the words of encouragement. —Bruce1ee 06:09, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
